La Cage Aux Folles, the last fully professional production done in Australia was 30 years ago ( 1984 ) had the pleasure of seeing it in Sydney than plus also the new Broadway production in 2010. The production company does three shows a year semi staged at Melbourne Art Centre, this was the last for the year. La Cage is such a joyous heartfelt funny show, and this production hit all the right notes.

To think 30 odd years ago, CBS in the states banned the Tony Awards for allowing George Hearn from appearing in DRAG as Zaza who later that night went on to win the Tony award for best actor and the show for best Musical.

^I really enjoyed this one. Great cast combined with an excellent book, very amusing, and made even funnier by the reactions of the pensioner next to me who audibly expressed her shock at a number of the costumes. Definitely The Production Company's standout show this year, and up there with Les Mis for the best musical I've seen locally in the last 12 months.

I found out today that Dr Zhivago is getting a Broadway run in 2015. Saw this one a couple of years ago when it premiered in Melbourne, very easy to recommend. Well written with some memorable songs, and it was certainly more interesting than the film!

It's funny, but CBS did allow The Notorious Cagelles to do part of their opening number, including their 'reveal' at the end of the number, before Hearn went on.

Ah, the bad old days. Not exactly the same thing, but in 1982, CBS nixed (the late, great) Anita Morris doing her "Call From The Vatican" number in NINE, where "the costume was in question". A body stocking with lace all over it, showing very revealing spots. One of the best numbers in the musical, when I saw it with her in it, Fall '82.

And they went with "Be Italian," instead. Which was a number about a prostitute (the also wonderful Kathi Moss) singing to four pre-teen boys, about sex. And now we have Neil Patrick Harris (as Hedwig), all over his partner in the front row, of last year's TONYs broadcast.

Times change.

Les Mis, Her Majesty's Theatre Melbourne.

Saw the new production well staging of Les Mis, this is an angry version than the original production, sadly didn't have the best of seats, so had sound issues where we sat ( and this is in the closing three weeks of the show ) Liked what I saw, the staging is very dark, looking forward to seeing it again in Sydney early next year.

I just found out that SIDE SHOW on Broadway is going to shutter on January 4th.

I knew I wasn't ever going to see it in New York, but I just hope it would last as long

as the original did. I don't think it did.

But I always loved the original cast cd of it, and they did make one for this production.

Which comes out mid-February. So that's a happier thought.

Highly looking forward to The Book of Mormon coming to the Dr. Phillips Center this weekend. Seeing the 2PM Sat show. I'm not sure what I'm more excited for, the show itself or the brand spankin' new theatre.

I'll definitely post a few photos of the theatre and such if I remember!

Beautiful, didn't take any photos of the theater cause I'm an idiot, but the overall feel was very Orlando (Nice blend of modern and classic). In a weird way, I think my favorite feature is that the theatre itself acts as a shield for cell phones (or at least it felt like it did, had absolutely no service in there). I'm sure that's on purpose to prevent phone calls and such from interrupting the show, and some people probably hate it, but I loved it.

The cup holders under the seats were a nice touch, as were the spacious seats. I'm not a small person, but even I was comfy!

I will also say that I don't think there is a bad seat in the entire place. We sat in the Mezzanine, Stage Left a few rows up, and had no issues seeing anything (even Angel Moroni at the top of the set!). I will say that given the chance to buy tickets I'd almost prefer the front few rows in the Balcony vs a few rows back in the Mezz.

I'm definitely looking forward to my next show there, mad at myself that I didn't buy tickets for Beauty & the Beast when it tours in May. Not many are available, but they might still be bought!

Tonight I got to see Jeremy Jordan from the original Newsies cast sing Santa Fe! He did a show at The Abbey here in Orlando where he sang some of his original songs along with tunes from several musicals he was in. It was nice to take a break from theme parks today, hang out with friends, and hear some music from one of my all-time favorite Broadway shows!

^ That sounds like a great show and night out! Still anxious to get my newsies tickets go this Spring!

I was fortunate enough to see Michael C. Hall as Hedwig a few weeks ago in New York. As someone who is passionate about the film as it came into my life through a rough period. The music has always had a special place in my heart. That said I had my worries about seeing a different portrayal of Hedwig, however Michael blew it out if the water. The whole show was just incredible and exceeded every expectation I had. To make it even better I somehow ended up in the "car wash" seat! Priceless! Now I am even more excited to book tickets to see John Cameron Mitchell in the roll he created!

^ Envy you. We actually met John when he was here for one of our queer film festivals,

and he was at it to talk about his recently opened film "Short Bus". But he fielded a TON

of questions about "Hedwig", and was really cool to give us more insight into the

creation of it, etc. I would love to see him live, doing Hedwig.

We got our annual Broadway Across Canada notice, on the 2015-16 season...

The Lion King - seen it twice now, with tours. Another viewing will be fine.

Once - the one I am really looking forward to, of the three offered.

Dirty Dancing - this is like what Flashdance was to me, this past season. I knew

a bit about the musical, but not much. Then we saw it - and I went 'meh'. Hoping that

this one is not like that one, to me.

There's an add-on of a tour of Mama Mia! to be had, but I am passing on that.

I like the cd of the orig.London musical, but don't want it to turn into a "sing along"

if what I think, happens when people see this musical.

Of course, the upcoming Book of Mormon may have that happen. "Hasa Diga", indeed.

Saw Dirty Dancing in Sacramento a couple of weeks ago and I was pleasantly surprised. I think it helped that I went in with exceptionally low expectations. Not among my top musicals by far, but I would give it a solid C grade.

^ We're not seeing DD until over one year from now! (Jan.13.16)

So I do hope the cast that arrives here will be good and not too

exhausted from all - that - touring!

(I also decided what the heck, and am also getting a ticket for Mama Mia!)

Book of Mormon was absolutely amazing. Just so over-the-top, unlike pretty much anything I've seen before.

And being that we saw the show in St. Louis, the part where they sang about the Garden of Eden being in Jackson County, Missouri got a lot of applause.

Hopefully Newsies comes near here next year. Then I'll have two of the biggest shows crossed off my "Broadway bucket list".
