Lots of changes being talked about by the park among those being Skyflyer officially being finished, new VIP area at All's Well Hall & the demolition of multiple buildings around Thunder Run/The Fly for "future development". Also there's notice of even more news next month!

From the latest drone videos on YouTube I'm seeing.... it might look like The Bat could be the next low capacity clone we're getting rid of next. They've cut open two new tunnels into the mountain the passed few weeks and reinforced a service tunnel which aligned perfectly with the newest hole by Thunder Run's exit. The other larger tunnel is under Vortex's lift hill and I'm guessing will be used for bringing in track and turning it into the station with que lines once everything is in place.

 

But I will never say no to those two leaving as well... I feel like a complete overhaul of that land is coming within a few more years.

This past Thursday (May 9th), I made my first visit of the 2024 season to Canada's Wonderland!

A lot of changes have been made during the off-season with a new security checkpoint entrance at the front gate, the demolition of buildings in International Festival (for the next addition), renovation and renaming of Backlot Café, a renovated Wonderland Store, new signage around the park, the removal of Xtreme Skyflyer (announced earlier this year), and, Viking's Rage refurbishment, the removal of the maximum height requirement for most rides in Planet Snoopy and Kidzville (yes, I have now been on all of the roller coasters at Canada's Wonderland!), and a few other things mentioned below! Check out the photos below! 

 

New security checkpoint at the front gate. This new layout with the path going under Leviathan has a much better flow than last year's setup! The new structures look great too!

New signage at the front gate area has been installed. It looks very clean and easy to read.

 

The Wonderland Store was renovated and expanded during the off-season.

New directional signage has been put up around the park.

The old Tiny Tom Donuts location in International Festival was demolished during the off-season.

The Multi-faith Space building and surrounding structures in International Street had also been demolished this past off-season.

Tiny Tom Donuts was relocated around Wonder Mountain where the Alpen Amusements claw machines were. During my visit, the donut making machines were being installed. I assume the new location will open soon.

The Coca-Cola Refreshment station in Action Zone was removed and replaced with this structure. I have a feeling it will be a new Coca-Cola refill station, but we shall see!

In the Grande World Exposition of 1890, Backlot Café has been transformed into the Grande World Eatery. The building has received a fresh new coat of paint and a major transformation going on inside. I look forward to seeing the final product when it reopens this season as it was quite dated last year.

Here is the former location of Xtreme Skyflyer, which was removed earlier this year. Judging by the signage, it looks this area could also be associated with the work happening around Wonder Mountain.

The building next to Klockwerks, which has stood abandoned for the past decade, is now being used as a Coca-Cola refresh centre was the other location in International Festival was recently demolished.

With the on-going construction in International Festival, the exit path for Thunder Run was rerouted with this nice boardwalk for this year. 

During the off-season Viking's Rage received a major overhaul consisting of a new electric drive system and a new coat of paint, closely resembling that of what it looked like when the park first opened! Hopefully it will be ready to reopen soon!

The old diving structure at Arthur's Baye in Medieval Faire was recently removed. It is said to be replaced with a new one sometime this year.

The lockers outside Wonder Mountain's Guardian have been removed. I later learned that the ride now has the moving bin system that Yukon Striker has! 

Here is a quick look inside the newly renovated and expanded Wonderland Store. The new layout flows a lot better!

It’s looking like project 2025 is most likely a very large Premier Rides launched coaster, which should be awesome given how big this is shaping up to be. Hopefully no comfort collars.

It's been quite a while since I've shared some updates of the new for 2025 attraction, which will be announced on August 8th, 2024!

Last Wednesday (July 24th) I went to Canada's Wonderland for my fifth visit of the season. Below are photos of the construction progress around Wonder Mountain, in International Festival! There are tons of footers to be seen! I can't wait for the official announcement on August 8th!

Canada's Wonderland has announced AlpenFury, a new Canadian record-breaking Premier launched coaster for 2025!

Canada’s Wonderland is inviting guests to face nature’s wrath next year on AlpenFury, the longest, tallest and fastest launch coaster in the country. When fire and ice come together inside the mysterious Wonder Mountain, the force will propel riders into a thrilling journey beginning with a launch that blasts the train out the summit, 50 metres into the sky. The coaster will span 1,000 metres across the park, reaching speeds of 115 km/h, flipping and twisting through nine breathtaking inversions – the most of any launch coaster in North America.

“AlpenFury is a world-class attraction, and we’re excited for the unique thrills it will offer our guests,” said Phil Liggett, general manager at Canada’s Wonderland. “The combination of being blasted out of Wonder Mountain, and then racing through nine inversions one right after the other, is going to be an experience guests won’t soon forget.”

Designed by Premier Rides, AlpenFury will be the park’s 19th roller coaster, the fourth to interact with Wonder Mountain and the signature attraction in Alpenfest, which will be officially designated a themed area of the park next year.

It is in this village that guests will find themselves at a festival celebrating the mystical union of fire and ice. A sled haus offers a journey aboard a sleek, modern sled into the heart of Wonder Mountain where this powerful, natural force awaits.

I mean this is pretty sick, and unexpected? I love that there's no swing launch, just a booster then a main launch. Premier trains suck to get into, but once in I've always though their rides are pretty smooth and fun. Ice Breaker is way punchier than it looks with great pops and laterals, if this is a bigger/faster/longer version of icebreaker with 9 inversions it might be a real surprise hit kind of coaster.

I really wish TPR would bring back their park visits with AlpenFuryFest - Behemoth Bash and LeviaTHON were life highlights for me.  Last time we went in 2012 - we had a newborn who tagged along who now is obessed with coasters.  Remember KidTums as a toddler and getting so wet doing the water challenge on Stunt Coaster.

So much fun.

The supports for AlpenFury have began to rise! It will be interesting walking through International Festival once the construction has been completed and the park is open in the Spring!

Of the new for 2025 rides I plan on experiencing this year, I think this is the most intriguing. I love Premier layouts--their trains are ass. But this seems to have a redesigned train, so I'm hopeful it'll be open for me at the end of July.

Question for the locals. When is the best time to visit this park? Canada's Wonderland is one of the last major parks in North America I have yet to visit, and with AlpenFury coming this year it is very high on my priority list to get to Toronto. I know this park gets VERY crowded too.

Of course a weekday is likely better than the weekend, I imagine, but what about month? And considering weather too? We would likely plan at least 2 full days at the park with FastLane and probably another day in the city to explore Toronto. Any tips would be appreciated! This new coaster looks awesome.

As a regular to the park, I would suggest visiting in May or June as school is still in around here, making the park not too busy. If you cannot visit in May or June, then I would suggest visiting the middle of the week (Tuesday or Wednesday) in July or August as they tend to be the least busiest days of the week during the summer months.

Spring is probably the best time. The park gets really stupidly busy in the summer. Toronto weather is usually nice then. Summer can  get hot and humid. Check the schedule for splashworks waterpark. It may be open weekends from the may 24 long weekend. They have a fish and chips place in the waterpark area that is pretty decent. 

You may be able to get a hotel deal in the shoulder season. Check out the harbourfront area. 
 

There is lots to do in toronto. Take the ferryboat to the island if you get the chance. You can rent a bike or rollerblades there. It also has a frisbee golf course. There are also walking and bike paths along the waterfront that are really nice. 
 

if you want a tour of the city get on a streetcar on either king or queen streets.you can see a lot and it is a nice way of getting around.  Toronto is a city of many neighbourhoods and each has their own unique feel. 
 

you could do the while trip without a car if you wanted to. You can take a train downtown from the airport and take the subway to wonderland. There is a short bus ride from the last station.

Toronto had a really straight forward public transportation system between the street cars and subway. The city was very easy to navigate. We enjoyed our stay.

Make sure you have international phone service. We found out we didn't when we crossed the border, so we had to buy a cheap burner at a Walmart.
