XYZ
^"All the trims"? Isn't there only 2? Never understood why people get so upset with trims. Even with trims on the return hills of Behemoth I've never once not gotten some sort of airtime going over each and every hill. This might be the deadly "Intimidator" trims where it drastically slows the train down.
DJeXeL
In the summer heat the trims will heat up since they are magnetic and will have less effect on trimming the train. Regardless, I'm not sure any B&M could be trimmed as much as Intimidator @ CW.
kunpc1
And remember, these are not fixed trims. The "open" and "close" and will only be used when necessary (just like the friction trims used on Behemoth). There are only 2 trims along the course. One on the up-side of the first camelback and one on the up-side of the second camelback hill.

In fairness, I had several rides on Intimidator that were practically trimless (usually early in the day or with half empty trains), and those were some of the best rides I've had on any B&M hyper. The rides during Coaster Stock '10 in particular were INSANE. However, in the middle of a hot day with a full train, those things grabbed pretty hard. bottom_feeder_13
^ I agree with this totally, I've ridden Intimidator over 150 times and it seems that maybe one out of every 3-5 is just amazing with some great airtime with the best ones being as soon as the park opens in October and sometimes September if it's cold enough. coasterbill
Every giga coaster ever built (with the exception of Millennium Force which people find other reasons to complain about) has trims. Most Hypercoasters do too. I don't see why people have to act surprised and disappointed when these coasters get trims. I have never ridden a B&M or Intamin hyper coaster where the trims detracted from the ride and just because it has trims, doesn't mean they'll be all that powerful. I agree and I have no doubt that Intimidator can be a great coaster however the 3 rides I had, the trains slammed into the trims pretty hard. coasterswim
Every giga coaster ever built (with the exception of Millennium Force which people find other reasons to complain about) has trims. Leviathan is only the 4th traditional Giga coaster in the world to be created. Of the other three (one of which you already excluded), only one of them actually has trims: Intimidator 305. braztaz
^Well, Steel Dragon has a mid-course break run, which is basically the same thing, if not worse...
Dom497
Did a bit of research and it appears that Leviathan is not a giga coaster...its a hyper....according to what B&M has called it.
sammmmmy
The way you just said that made it seem like it wasn't actually 300 feet. B&M can call it whatever they want, that doesn't change that it's 300 feet tall.
jmicha
^^B&M calls it a megacoaster, which is just the coaster type. It has nothing to do with the height of it. Their megacoasters can be of any height. The smallest is Hollywood Dream and the largest now is Leviathan. Other people use megacoaster to describe 200-299 foot coasters, but B&M uses it to describe the ride type instead. I'm super excited to see this thing testing hopefully next month. This and Shambhala appear to be potentially awesome rides. I've liked the three B&M megacoasters I've been on quite a bit, so hopefully I will get the opportunity to ride this sometime in the near future. UrbanLegend
Wasn't 'Giga Coaster' a term coined by Intamin anyway? And enthusiasts just use it to describe the other two? Does/did Morgan have an official category for SD2k, or did everybody just decide to call it a giga coaster. Either way, Leviathan is really tall, really big and looks really fun! coasterfreak101
^Hyper, giga, and strata are all terms coined by Cedar Point's marketing team, because they were the first to break each of those barriers will full-circuit coasters. The terms stuck, so that's just what we call them. Superman at SFA is an "Intamin Megacoaster" according to the trains, and all the B&M hypers are "B&M Megacoasters" as well. This might be the deadly "Intimidator" trims where it drastically slows the train down. No, these are single trim brakes that can grab the train if it's going in excess of the speed range it's designed to stay within. Is this really so hard to understand...? kunpc1
Did a bit of research and it appears that Leviathan is not a giga coaster...its a hyper....according to what B&M has called it. The original construction plans for Leviathan clearly stated "Giga Coaster" on them (not to mention many of the tags on different materials used). Intamin/Cedar Point may have been the first to use the term, however it's generally accepted that any roller coaster over 300 feet is a "Giga" coaster. It's similar to how a "Strata" coaster is generally accepted as any roller coaster over 400 feet. But if you look at the name given to that coaster type by Intamin, they're in the group "Accelerator Coasters". B&M calls one of their designs a "Hyper" coaster. Intamin calls that same height category "Mega" coasters. So does that mean Intamin hasn't built any hyper coasters? Really, this is just semantics. Sure individual companies will call their designs different things however, the general coaster community calls coasters over 200ft "hypers", over 300ft "gigas" and over 400ft "stratas". To me, that is all that matters. Regardless of origin, they are widely used and understood terms. I will add, though, that I usually group mini-hypers in with hypers, and I may exclude some 200-299' rides from the hyper category if they're not in the style of a traditional hyper. australianalex
By height classification, Levaithan is a Giga Coaster. Its model, however, is the Hyper Coaster model. Just like how Goliath at Walibi World and Expedition Geforce aren't hyper/mega coasters by height classification, but Intamin calls them megacoasters as thats the model. asimowalk
Beating the 300' height mark to me has always meant giga coaster. It seems like the best way to market the coaster anyway, what with the bunched up pantyhose over the fact that Behemoth (a hyper coaster) is in the same park. chemical_echo
Ultimately it's up to the park what they want to classify it as since it's their coaster that they bought from the manufacturer. Canada's Wonderland can call it a OMGWTF300footLOLZ coaster if they really wanted to.
buckaroo234
and seriously, does it really matter what its called. Doesnt it really matter how it rides, and seeing as how the trains are just getting delivered and it hasnt made a first run we can only guess on that, but no mater what its a pretty beast and one we should all be excited to experience eventually. asimowalk
New pictures on Facebook! Full album is here Absolutely loving what they've done with the station. It's going to look great when it's complete. Any info on what the sign may be like? I know Behemoth's signage was explained early in the construction tours. Intimidator305
I can't wait to see how Cedar Fair themes this to go with the medieval theme of the area. Behemoth obviously was a generic themed ride with a few modern twists (the sign, station, ect.), but in my opinion it fit the area that it is in well. Cedar Fair suprsingly did a nice job on the Intimidator areas... so let's hope this turns out to be good too!
