Canada's Wonderland Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

In regards to Soaring Timbers, will this be the first park installation of this type of ride? I have only seen it featured on German fairgrounds.

I mean, isn't this only the second installation of a Mondial Inferno at all? The only other example of this ride I've ever known of is the traveling Airwolf. I've heard it's one of the craziest flat rides ever designed.

EDIT: On-ride video:

I think theres another one here in Germany too called nightfly, and theres also a really cool inverted version called intoxx which looks really amazing, I loved CW only been once and it was before the b&m days, so I hoped to visit again in the future

Strange they would add that Air wolf . It seems similar to a Topscan.

Strange you would post that, it seems similar to behemoth/leviathan posts.

I think this is a solid addition to the park, the waterpark needs less outdated slides and the "airwolf" is an amaizing suprise. I'm not to sure on how reliable this ride would be in a park, from what I can remember from the traveling version is that it was down a lot.

I am quite sure that Canada's Wonderland wouldn't get a ride that has high downtime. From what I've heard elsewhere, this Mondial Inferno may be the New Comer that traveled in France as it has been for sale for years on Mondial's website. If it is the former New Comer, it should be completely like new as it has gone through a major refurbishment by Mondial themselves. So, it really shouldn't give any trouble at all and should perform like a new ride even though it is really about 20 (or more) years old. But, the Inferno will give a different experience of a ride compared to a Top Scan as the Inferno rocks side to side and the Top Scan's cars rock back and forth. I should point out that the Mondial Inferno is a predecessor of the Mondial Top Scan but, that doesn't really matter as they're two different rides that offer two different but, highly thrilling experiences.

After watching the youtube video of the ride elsewhere, I have come to the conclusion that I don't think I will enjoy this ride, which is slightly odd because Shockwave is one of, if not my favourite flat ride at the park. Who knows though, maybe seeing it first hand will change my mind.

The drop pods at the water park are a welcome addition. In fact they can get the heart rate going as much as any coaster or flat ride..especially when they mess around with the countdown ie "dropping in 5.4.3 SPLASH!!". They are turning the waterpark into a SOLID area to spend time in. I liked it before...I REALLY like it now with the addition. If they could turn the lazy river now into a rapid river "a la" Aquatica in Orlando..then it would be perfection!

I don't know my flat rides as well as some of the people on this forum, so will defer to their judgement on Soaring Timbers. I am just happy that CF does invest in Wonderland, and have always been consistent in my praise for them. Since I moved to Canada in the Paramount days, the park is now night and day. Kudos to the owners for keeping the park varied and exciting.

In relation to the talk about CF building a hotel on site (a couple of pages back). My personal opinion is that it wouldn't make much sense for them to do that here given that Wonderland is close enough to Toronto and in a large enough urban area for there to be plenty of choice close by (Vaughan, Toronto etc). You can literally stay 5 minutes away at a reasonably priced hotel (advertised on the CW site). An onsite hotel would have to include some "draw" factor to it.....I can't see what that could be...given that if you stay at a hotel in Vaughan...distance is not a problem. Can't quite see the "Grand Torontonian" flagship resort at CW.

Was at the park today for the food trucks. I missed out last year but will definitely go again next year if they bring it back. They had lots of options to pick from but it wasn't very busy. It would be really cool if other parks in the chain could do it.

It was a really odd day at the park today. They set up the food trucks by psyclone, which maybe why the lines were short on that side of the park. Behemoth had a 10 minute wait all day and stunt coaster had a 20 minute wait. The busiest part of the park was the kid area. I have noticed that of all the parks I have visited recently Wonderland seems to have the busiest kid area.

The only complaint is how many families think its ok to line jump. One time a lady and her 3 kids left the line only to come back a few minutes later and skipped past every one to go back to her spot in line. Another time my sister and her kids were going on Boo Blasters and a lady let 5 kids and her friend jump past my sister. The worst part of it is the park doesn't do much about it.

I'll be heading back to the Wonderland in a few weeks...figured I'd ask here to see about recommendations for a place to stay nearby. IMO, I'm looking for an affordable place to just crash after a long day as I don't think a 5+ hr drive late night will be a good decision. No need for a fancy place like a 5* resort or Casino, just a nice comfy bed and possibly complementary breakfast would be ideal

The last few times we did end up trekking 5+ late night and it was just brutal.

^ Your best bet is something along Highway 7, east of 400, but it may cost ya Wonderland isn't the most accommodating park, unfortunately.

Thanks for the info...yeah I was noticing accommodations seem to be lacking!

The Wonderland website has a few accommodation links on it which aren't really in the "expensive" category.

Most of the options in Vaughan are the "Something by someone" line of hotel ie Hampton Inn by Hilton...which are all fairly reasonable and most have a breakfast included. You can also search some of the airport hotels...there are ALWAYS rate discounts on these, especially if you search on travelzoo. We are not talking too far in driving distance if you stay in these..and there is plenty of choice if you do so.

For me it would be in Vaughan (use the website links) or search around the airport.

Thanks! I did check the suggested ones in their website links and was shocked reading some of the reviews. I think the ones nearby the airport seem to be the best and just noticed that isn't too far of a drive. I think I'm all set thanks to a few replies.

I stayed at the Airport Comfort Inn up there, booked on priceline for about 65USD/night. Room was clean, hotel was quiet. I can't recall if there was a breakfast but there were plenty of options close by, namely Tim Horton's. I would recommend it if you're looking for something on the budget end and a bed to sleep in. Definitely no frills.

Anyone know what the 10th maze is for Halloween Haunt?

FEARVR extra charge, perhaps?

Fear VR will most likely be extra charge. Not sure if it will be available here anymore (Knotts shutting down their VR experience due to people complaining about the experience stigmatizing mental health)

Edit: Fear VR was removed from the Haunt Website this morning.
