TPR Mini-Europe Trip 2007 Photos by Robin Schroder

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Was geht?

Those of you on the mini-Europe trip may have spotted me snapping away on an old 35mm film camera (my magic camera!) - finally I have the pictures back from the lab! They were all shot on slide film and cross-processed (i.e. the wrong chemicals were used deliberately) - no photoshop was involved in their manufacture.

The trip was so much fun and it was great to make so many ace new friends. Many thanks to Robb and Elissa for all of their hard work, and hopefully see you all at some point in the future!

Enjoy the supa-kerazy colours/colors !!

Robin

Part 1

OK - Here we go - we start with how I travelled from London to Germany:

Slightly random self-portrait in the hotel bathroom, Köln!

I arrived in Köln after about 6 hours travelling from London - not bad!

...and more of the same!

Eurostar

Hello! Here I am on the Eurostar! I'd love to lie and say I took this whilst I was going through the Channel Tunnel itself, but that just wouldn't be right.

Wow Robin, I *love* the way these are processed!! I didn't even notice that you were snapping with an actual film camera, shock horror!

Was wonderful to meet you, hope we'll end up on another trip together at some point! Looking forward to seeing the rest of the pictures!

Holiday Park! Yay! Whilst Expedition GeForce was maybe not quite as intense as last time I rode it a couple of years ago, it was still absolutely amazing!!! The atmosphere during ERT was really great too - lots of fun!

Factimation: The different colour shift in some of the pictures is a result of using a different type of film for some of the shots.

Goodbye Expedition GeForce!

OK - time for some serious ERT fun!!!

Bruno shooting video whilst taking photos! I later added my camera in the chain, as seen in Morgan's ace video.

It's a high-speed thrill ride from Weh-koma!

robin_holiday_park_s.jpg.b1afea40d3789d373cab9dc56ad2d6dd.jpg

Ha ha - Weh-koma time! Not for me, though. This was my first ever proper coaster way back when, but even so, no pain for me, thanks!

robin_holiday_park_q.jpg.94edf57974923519c3ecc5a1a1cbfb8a.jpg

Crazy dark ride - it doesn't matter that you can't really see what's going on here - it makes about as much sense!

robin_holiday_park_a.jpg.0f7f35c8e57fb6059899ed2fe600cac4.jpg

Next up... the starflyer! It's such a shame the lab jpeg'd these scans so much as on my print version, the transition in the sky is perfectly smooth and looks beautiful!

Such an amazing first drop!

The much documented Pipi Station! Oh, and Expedition GeForce!

When we arrived, we all headed straight for Expedition GeForce!

Phantasialand

Winjas rocked, but not quite as much as River Quest!!! Ha ha - that ride was soooo cooool! Yet I didn't manage to get any pictures of it, so why not look at other trip reports through sweet wrappers to get the desired effect? As for Black Mamba, the waterfall climb was fun...

robin_phantasialand_z.jpg.ab0ab6972cc1a17dee004a30eeaa7959.jpg

Finally, I have no idea what this picture is of. I think maybe it's of the queue line to Mystery Castle. Not sure, though!!!

Some sort of mad dance executed by Hanno and Bruno!!!

Bruno and Hanno - hi guys!!

robin_phantasialand_o.jpg.182a4189e5a881d2c532a5ebdce6a98e.jpg

Ha ha - I was Bruno's official photographer for the trip! Good job it was mostly on his camera, as this came out a bit odd!

robin_phantasialand_j.jpg.e4f2d22b2146deb8cbd1d337c71c146d.jpg

This coaster is so tricky to photograph not only because of the already-documented "Oh - I thought it went along that bit in the other direction" effect and also due to the nets.

Whhheeeeeeeeeeee!!!

robin_phantasialand_h.jpg.4d73cf7222b91f6cf3cccdf0608e323c.jpg

(A little dark - that's 'cause the pictures are so contrasty. Ah, well.)

Talocan - I've gotta 'fess up and admit to not riding this - I guess I was a bit too 'coastered out' by this point. Many people said it was their highlight of Phantasialand, though.

Toverland

Wow - Troy was such a fun and also beautiful ride (hence the nice photos)!

And here's an amazing sunburst Troy effect! Thanks, magic camera, magic film and magic lab - you're ace!

I leave you with two of the finest photos I've ever taken (in my opinion, anyway!) - first here's Bruno photographing Troy.

Part 7a

Now, whilst they're of less interest, some of the pictures of my overnight stay in Köln and journey back are yet to be developed. I'll post those eventually, but in the mean time here are a few random shots from my gradual journey back. Thanks for the nice comments so far!

robin_departure_z.jpg.233480aa2c067d7da487b4cf0c58d7dd.jpg

Gleich!!! More to follow in a week or so... depending on when I finish the film!

robin_departure_y.jpg.e91a23285d8a769e6ab3921852592adf.jpg

Kein Trink Wasser - poignant given that I spent much of my journey enjoying Orbital's fantastic Live at Glastonbury CD! Such a great tune.

robin_departure_x.jpg.5ebadb736206a72879aaa610d51fb53b.jpg

Ha ha - yes, the first thing I did after checking into my hotel in Köln was visit their modern art museum - a bit like a theme park but with pictures and installations rather than rides!

How wonderfully AWESOME it is to see somebody else using a "regular old camera" and f-i-l-m in it.... like myself, heh heh.

Too many of your shots are just fantastic (too many? eh...) to note here, but on the whole it really is a great TR showing a lot of what's been already been shown.... differently. Light-wise and colour-wise, I mean.

Looking forward to more of your photos. Take your time. They deserve all the care you can give them, those films, LOL!

Hi Robin! Your pictures are amazing, some of them nearly look like paintings.

It was really nice to meet you. Hope to see you again sometime in the future.

Wow Robin, insane pics!! I'm assuming you scanned them into your computer: do you have higher resolution bigger versions?? There are one or two I think would make AWESOME desktops!! Thanks for sharing, a really great unique report.

Hey Super-Robin!!! I have spent more than 1 hour on your pics and only at the end I have discovered the worng thing that is present in a part of them...: ME!!! Ahahah... anyway... according to Lou request I think we need all a downloadable version of most of the pics just for "desktop purposes"!!!

Great shots, Simon! I have to say, I was always wondering why you were using the camera you were. As embarassing as it sounds, I was thinking "Wow, I guess they don't pay much at the BBC." Sorry! Now that I know the true reason, I think it's awesome. I'm proud to say I was there when many of these shots were taken and look forward to more from any other trips. What a great idea...
