I really like roller coasters. Like, ever since I was about 5, I just loved them to death. I haven't stopped my obsession, and I haven't let up on being a coaster enthusiast. In fact, over the years, my love for them has gotten a lot stronger. The only problem is my family. This year I'm going to the coaster craze event, and I'm meeting up with other coaster enthusiasts to have a great day, but even though they're letting me go, they think that something is gonna happen. I've told them that we are just regular people, but they think that all coaster enthusiasts are like child molesters or something. What shoudl I do?

If you want to reassure your family these people are not weirdos, during the trip, just call them every few hours or so to tell them you're fine and that these people are nice and yadda yadda.

A few months ago, I had an entertaining dinner with Robb, Elissa, and Colin (colincoon) at Carrabba's. My parents felt kind of weirded out, but in the middle of dinner, I excused myself and called my parents to tell them "These folks are alright, etc."

Over time, your parents trust towards coaster enthusiasts may change. Just keep reassuring them that you are safe.

I hate having these problems aswell. Only my brother and I really love rollercoasters, and every Summer holiday we'd like to go to 1 or 2 parks. But most of the time my family are all 'Oh no we musn't go there, lets do something more interesting than rollercoasters' as if they're dangerous.

I ignore and convince them to go to atleast 1, they'll get used to it eventually

I kind of find that funny. That's the way it was for me for years as well. But finally, my parents say I'm old enough to do my own thing, and allow me to have about 5-10 park days a year---more if I could afford it of course!

Thanks guys. I feel a lot better about this. TPR=Solutions. : ]

Its kinda wierd, (Parents I mean)

When I told my dad about the UK Trip in 06, he thought it was pretty ridiculous, but was also very interested. It ended up being one of the greatest experiences of my life.

Roller Coaster Folk are just...well....enthusiasts! Its just like going to Comic Con, or something of that sort. Except im sure youd have a bigger chance at getting molested at Comic Con then with a bunch of coaster enthusiasts.

But i feel I can relate to you, I kinda went through the same thing you went through, except my parents didnt think Robb and Elissa were child molestors! But found the whole coaster idea to be odd, to say the least.

But if you have any questions...please feel free to share them, or shoot me a PM!

I had the same problem to and this was just going to the Dells and SFGAm...which is only a hour drive for both. When I first told my sister about this site she was like, "there going to kidnap you and you don't even know who these weirdos are". And when I got my first DVD, in 2005, and they were really pissed and thought it was a waste of money. So I sent in the money and just hid them and said that I sent them back. But a week later I was watching it and my parents looked at me as if I were watching porn. But after 5 mins they thought the DVDs were funny and fun to watch. Ever since then they were alto more relaxed with the whole "meet up" things.

And my dad is really relaxed now because on SFGAms opening day this year my dad went with because I didn't have a car. He meet a bunch of people and then he understood the whole "enthusiast" thing. And by the end of the day he was talking to everyone and having a great time. And ever since then they have been completely relaxed with me going places and meet up. He understands that we would rather ride coasters then try to have sex with people
