Coaster Palooza
I'm going to give a few responses to some of the comments/questions. Ted - I think going to DelGrosso's during the Italian food festival would be the best time to go. Maybe we'll do it again. Gloria in Italian should be interesting to hear. Erik - Yes, we did make it. We also got to Kennywood, Idlewild, and Lakemont. The pictures and report should be up soon. Schmoofy - We didn't ask about when the Flying Turns is going to be open, but I'm sure they would say, "2 weeks." It is an inside construction joke. Anyone that saw Money Pit with Tom Hanks would know what I am talking about. Beemer - I honestly have no idea how many smashed pennies I have. I do have around 10 of those passport books filled. They have smashed quarters in them too! I have a lot of pennies in a box at the moment. I need to get a few more passports. Maybe I'll take a picture of them later. The one collection that I didn't get all of was Disneyland's 50th anniversary. Too many machines were broke. Lori - You have a smashed penny from the Ohio Turnpike??? I would never have looked for one there. ECZenith - Dante's Dungeon didn't do it for us. Man that's a lot of D's. The ride just didn't seem all that great. Twisterbret - I hope you had a good time at the event, we did. The staff at Morey's Piers is great! Once again, depending on time, I hope to get this TR up and finished soon. Coaster Palooza
The hotel we stayed at by Kennywood had a special discount for the park. This turned out to be a great deal. We arrived at the park before 10:30am. The rides don’t open until 11am, so we were able to go around the park without a big crowd. Once the rides opened, we got on everything! I won’t bore you with all the details of the rides. Ted and Catrina arrived in early afternoon. The rest of the day went great! They showed us around and told us a lot about Kennywood. Thanks so much for coming out to meet up with us! It was great to see both of you. Every day should end with a tub with jets! Bye Kennywood. Hopefully we'll see you again sometime. There are a lot of old items here, but you really wouldn't know it by looking at them. Just some info. Kangaroo hop. We were definitely pushing the weight limit with me on this ride. Yes he was. Once again, one of the oldest carousels is here. Funny An actual camera in the alien's hands. But it's still a disk-o. There's a lot of nice theming. Onto their new ride. Phantom Jr. See, I am a little dry. Ted, block all the water please. Coming down... Going up... Hey Ted, you don't get wet on this, right? Rick and Ted in line for the log ride. A second ride on Jack Rabbit. YAY! Next up.... I don't think we would have ridden half the rides you both got us on if you didn't show up. Here we are in line for Garfield. Hey, look who's here. Ted & Catrina came out to join us. Thanks for coming and showing us around. Now for a swing. I found this funny. This wasn't his splash, but it was the boat splash here. It seriously has to be one of the biggest. Trust me, he's in the middle there and he makes it. and now for the conclusion, I shall jump from this dizzy height into 10 feet of water. I can't swim! Weigh the anchor. Aaarrgh Captain, should we dive, or dive, or dive? Here's the narrator. Apparently it rains every July 29th in one of the counties here. They have 10 contestants, aged 15-17, try to win the pageant. No Jahan I didn't get any phone numbers for you. Before the show, there was a Miss Rain Day competition. Aaaarrrgh! Everyone is going with the pirate theme. We took some time to watch the dive show after lunch. Front row on Racer though. Back row please! Down the first drop. Time for Jack Rabbit. I don't know why the girl in the front was already grabbing her head. The flyers go right over your head when your on the bridge by Jack Rabbit and Racer. Sure, all smiles now. We are actually in the last row too. The drops gave Gyendolynne some unexpected airtime. Mainly because I didn't tell her about it. :0 YAY! Another woodie. I think this old couple might be Gyendolynne and I in about 40 years. Only complaint at this park. There should be fans in the queue area. It gets extremely hot up there. Gyendolynne looks scared. I think she is more worried that there aren't any fans in the queue area upstairs. Seriously, why aren't there any fans!!!! This was operating and we rode it. The ride op is reading Catch-22. I actually couldn't believe this, but I guess you have to catch up on your reading sometime. Our first ride of the day. We thought this picture might turn out nice. I would like to ride Thunderbolt with Kenny. Over by the mine train, I think. I have only been here twice, but this has to be the a light crowd. See, I told you it was early! There's Jack Rabbit from across the way. Some history for everyone. Same here, but you can see what Kennywood looks like with no one in the park yet. Here we are at Jack Rabbit. We'll get on this later on in the day. We were here too early. The rides don't get going until 11am. Hey Cowboy Joe, did you ever hear the one about....just swappin' yarns. It looks like we're going the right way. We first have to go under the road to get into the park. That's Phantom's Revenge in the background. Hey, we're here for another thrill packed day at an amusement park!

Coasternerdette
Hey Rick, if I tell you they have a penny smashing machine at every rest area on the turnpike, will that coerce you guys to make an Ohio coaster trip soon?
Coaster Palooza
Thanks for the photos Ted. Lori, We have done an Ohio trip, I just didn't know about the pennies... Little Coaster Girl, I had no idea you could take your dog with you. That sounds interesting and scary at the same time. BeemerBoy asked about my smashed penny collection so I thought that I would take a picture of it. I haven't added many of them to the passports, but I will when I have the time. Here I am with the whole pile of pennies. Here's the collection. Many of them are still in a couple of bags. The "smashed penny kit" is on the right. bobafett
You said that Morey's Piers talked about building a new coaster connecting two piers? Did he go into detail? I know that the 2 piers that are closest to each other are Morey's and the old Hunt's pier, maybe they will reopen The Golden Nugget after all, there has been talk of the Morey's family doing that for quite some time now. I hope so,I loved that ride as a kid. Wildwood does have some very long beaches, but there are ways to get to the beach without walking that far. You just have to know where to go. The beaches are very clean and free as opposed to some Jersey towns where they make you pay to go on the beach.WildWood is a great seaside resort with great places to eat and cool stores off of the boardwalk. We have a summer home down in WildWood and we have been going down there since I was a kid. I love it there. Next time you are Philly, let me know and I can give you a tour of the city or WildWood even, and I can show you off the beaten path of these 2 cities and show you some interesting places. My husband and I would be happy to be have you as our guests. Great TR. This website called www.funchase.com will give you a history of WildWood and some the rides and attractions that used to be on the boardwalk and in town itself. I'm a real WildWood nut. Check it out!
Coaster Palooza
^^Thanks Justin! ^Bobafett - Jack Morey was talking about the rollercoaster at lunch time at the rendezvous picnic pavilion. He was looking towards the other pier (North) and saying that he wanted to connect a rollercoaster between the two piers. I think it is between the old Hunt's pier (next to where the Nor'Easter is located) and the pier we were at for lunch. Unfortunately we didn't stay for the group discussion on this. We really did have a great time at Wildwood and we would go again if we lived closer. I don't know when we will get a chance to go to Philly again. Thanks for the comments thought and the informative website!
PKI Jizzman
Great park updates, Rick! I remember when I used to collect smashed pennies from around KI and Coney Island, or from this lighthouse down in South Carolina. Neat stuff! -Zach
Coaster Palooza
We ended up getting a great deal from the hotel for tickets at Idlewild and a discount off the room, just like at Kennywood. The discounts were so great that it was like a buy one, get one free. The day wouldn’t start out all that great though. It was raining and pretty much a challenge to get through the park. The rain would be on and off the rest of the day. Lakemont Park had $1 Wednesdays. It only cost us $4 to get into the park and get all day ride bands. Even with the rain, we were able to ride Leap the Dips and Skyliner. It is a really great little park. Thanks for reading the Trip Report! Finally, out to dinner. Drinking some beers from Victory! Big baby. Gyendolynne's sister, Heather, combing the dog. We leave our day the same way we entered it. There was such a downpour as we were leaving Lakemont and for the first part of our drive back to Fredericksburg. I hope you enjoyed the trip report. I will post just a few home pics. $1 Wednesdays also meant $1 kettlecorn. Coming down. I am in the front seat all by myself! The first drop provided some good airtime. There were no seatbelts, so I got a great lift. YAY!!! The view of the ballpark from the lift hill. Up the lift hill. Happy to be riding. 3 can fit in a seat. Go Curve! Skyliner was running great! Toboggan wasn't running due to the rain. No seatbelts, no lapbar. A couple of photos of the track. Here we go... We're really excited that it isn't raining and that we don't have those ponchos on. Up the lift hill. We're ready to ride! I know we didn't just enter 6-Flags! I can't believe he is texting. First, some historical references. Hey Gyendolynne, what do you think about getting to ride the oldest rollercoaster? Onto Lakemont park where they have $1 Wednesdays! It is $1 to get into the park and $1 for all day ride tickets. $0 for parking. I will leave Idlewild with everyone's favorite picture. I knew I was afraid of the Jack in the Box for a reason. Some things just don't look right. Actually, little Red Riding Hood scared us because we weren't expecting anyone to be in there. Aaaaaahhhhh! The big bad wolf! Be afraid. I tried this at Disneyland and it didn't work there either! The 3 little bears' house. I know I can get that knife! The good ship Lollipop Along came a spider... Hi Mother Goose. The next few photos are of Story Book Forest. Some will have captions, some won't. I hope you enjoy the photos! This area is really neat too. We took a lot of pictures here because the rain finally stopped. I really like this area of the park. We didn't take too many photos here because it was still raining. Yes, we're riding one of the oldest carousels...again. They're all there! Oh my! Your invited to the castle! Gyendolynne doesn't know what she is in for. Oh man, I was just on this last year. Come along, come along... Okay... More interesting facts. The look from the bridge, yes there are a lot of raindrops still coming down. Time for Raccoon Lagoon. Frustration at the end of the ride. I kept trying anyway. Absolutely no snapping! I'll ride, Gyendolynne will watch. Let's get on their new ride. It's not raining that bad now, but it hasn't stopped. A little Rollo Coaster history. Oh well, we'll just get ponchos on and ride. As long as the rides are running. Man, it just won't friggin' stop!!! I don't know if I have to go to the bathroom bad enough to run through this. 15 minutes later, it started coming down harder. We're dry though...for the moment. The YMCA kids running from the picnic area to the bathrooms and back! This is what the park looked like 5 minutes later. Boy, this looks familiar for some reason. The rain is on the way though. Coasternerdette
Nice finish for the trip report. I've been begging Mark that we should go to Idlewild. I just HAVE to go to Mr. Rogers Neighborhood. On another note, after we both bemoaned no penny smasher machines at Holiday World, I sent off an email and just yesterday got a response from RavenMaven. Happy to report the next time you go to Holiday World, be sure to bring those quarters and pennies. Apparently the machines got installed at the park sometime after Holiwood Nights.
