BiCoastal Kid
http://www.accesshollywood.com/news/ah5861.shtml German Officials Bar Tom Cruise Film Shoot Over Scientology BERLIN, Germany (June 25, 2007) -- German officials have refused to allow filmmakers of Tom Cruise’s latest starring vehicle “Valkyrie” to shoot on location in German military sites because of the actor’s faith in Scientology. The World War II drama focuses on a plan to assassinate Adolph Hitler, but despite the German theme, the crew will not be able to film on German bases. While they have not received official requests on the project, Harald Kammerbauer, a Defense Ministry spokesman told Reuters, Cruise’s faith is behind their decision to refuse to allow filming in the locales. “[Filmmakers] will not be allowed to film at German military sites if Count Stauffenberg is played by Tom Cruise, who has publicly professed to being a member of the Scientology cult,” Kammerbauer is quoted as saying. "In general, the Bundeswehr (German military) has a special interest in the serious and authentic portrayal of the events of July 20, 1944 and Stauffenberg's person," Kammerbauer added. Germany does not recognize the Church of Scientology as a church. According to Reuters, Berlin believes Scientology “masquerades as a religion to make money.” Cruise’s publicist was not available for comment. Cruise will star in “Valkyrie” alongside Kenneth Branagh, Bill Nighy, Eddie Izzard and Tom Wilkinson.

It's because he came down with a major case of the crazies, and hasn't recovered yet.
