haiderodes
So this past weekend I took a trip to San Francisco as a little getaway. The first day I didnt really do much but meet up with some friends and shop and what not, but the highlight was day 2, Sunday. It would be my first visit to Six Flags Discovery Kingdom which also meant it was my first visit to another Six Flags park outside of Magic Mountain. I used the Baylink ferry to get up to Vallejo and then used a city bus to get from the ferry terminal to the park. In all it was about a 1.5-2hr journey, but I got to see a lot of cool things along the way so it wasnt so bad. The day pass was $19.25 for roundtrip ferry service and unlimited bus travel in Vallejo...not a bad deal considering the ferry is normally 11.50 each way on its own. Overall it was a great trip. I have a goal of visiting all the Six Flags parks, so thas number two off my list! This particular park is nice, but I dont really see a need to go back. For every nice touch, there was also a touch of ghetto. I didnt like how things were left exposed. It bothered me that the go-karts just sit there at the entrance of the park, but then when you get into the park its nice and landscaped. The other thing that turned me off was the amount of little kids present. I know that little kids love animals, but DAMN by 3p I was ready to go. I can say, due to this they do have SFMM beat in the kiddie ride category. Hell, they have em beat in the flat ride category as well. And I only saw one employee text messaging (ODV lemonade cart), and she was quick to hide it when she saw that I noticed. To the Forum! Wait...wrong park. TO THE PHOTOS! Somewhere on this train, someone is crying out in pain Kong...was running 2 trains! Medusa...THROUGH THE TREES! Medusa...and it was running 3 trains! I MADE IT! Interior of the ferry...its a like a really wide airplane with extra legroom There's me and there's San Francisco Got a ticket to ride! First stop SF Ferry Building These dudes were hanging out behind the fountain. One was all 'wassssah"...the other was like "leave me alone!" haiderodes
More photos... We cant touch the butterflies, but they can touch us? That doesn't seem very fair. Even the flamingos behind Voodoo think it sucks. At least it had a decent sign?!? Voodoo = WEAKSAUCE Tazmanian Devil...can you believe people were acutally using Flash Pass for this. It, along with every other ride in the park, had NO WAIT! This reminds me of Sea World San Diego circa 1998...although a cheaper version. The best part was when people in the audience got pooped on by a sneaky bird on the awning...too bad I didnt get it on camera. Shouka...eh Nothing like a good 'ol Boomerang to give you a concussion. I thought black dont crack? Well someone get her some lotion! SIMULATED DOLPHIN SEX! Its a menagerie! The only water ride open which meant it had the longest line in the park. I have an aversion to getting soaking wet, so I skipped it. WORST.SHOW.EVER! Signature shot! Flying by that erection. MMM...twisty Rawr! So they replaced Zonga with this...CRANE: THE RIDE! A fully erect V2 Coming soon to Lyfetyme...television for losers. Are we related? Jocko doesnt like my "lip" and tells me to get the ____ out! WHOA, SORRY! Who died and made you queen? Jocko has had enough of me, he tells me to keep it moving. Oh snap...an actual piece of acrylic! They are pulling out all the stops today! Wow Six Flags is serious about cleaning up thier image...look at those expletives they've censored! Introducing...WalrusButt Like Bee-YAWN-say said...to the left to the left! No this is not me dressed in blue...its Jocko! So this guy starts directing traffic. What a let down! It wasn't ANYTHING like I was expecting. *dirty grin* Intriguing sign no? I like the names of some of the rides. Even though the ride op wouldn't say it...he just kept saying "The Gorilla" Right after I took this photo, this little guy landed on my camera...and wouldnt leave! ComplexAudio99
I'm glad to hear that Discovery Kingdom is becoming more of a little kid park, but unfortunately no new roller coasters have been added recently. With the defunct Zonga that only ran for part of one year, and then was sold, you would think that Six Flags would of forked out the money for a wild mouse, or a Maurer Spinning Coaster like the one at Disney Paris or something, oh well. Having that said it is my local park, and a pretty nice one too, but its one of those parks that you only have to visit once to see the whole park... Great TR. Unfortunately the second post with pics... well no pics showed up, just jpg names. Too bad, I was reading your captions, and I just got a laugh reading them without the pics. I hope you can fix the pics soon! So whats the next SF park on the list?
haiderodes
I had serious issuse uploading that second set so now I present the final set of photos! Back to San Francisco! Hope you liked my update. Back to the ferry. I settled in with a smoothie and a water. Medusa through the trees...again. V2 over the entrance is pretty cool. Granted my timing was off and this was the best shot I got. Looks like Shouka is attacking Medusa...quick we need a little help here! Waiting for the bird show, all these people along the wall were just there for the shade. Is this kid sleep or was it an aneurism from all the extreme G forces? Since when was the Green Lantern black? I laffed. HARD. repeatedly.
kenshinmac
Wow... Is that like the shortest shoot the chutes ride ever? I don't remember it being that small somehow. I mean seriously if that is over like 35 feet tall I would be impressed. Oh and that Justice League pic reminds me how happy I am we got a new Chaos at Elitch Gardens this year after the sale... I always felt sorry for the characters standing there just looking desperate for someone to come over.
CoasterLover
Since when was the Green Lantern black? I laffed. HARD. repeatedly. Must be a common trend, at SFA and SFGAdv, I think I've ONLY ever seen black Green Lanterns...
DenDen
Green Lantern, in his history, has been black and white. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Greenlantern156.jpg http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/e/ef/Justice_league_green_lantern.jpg
BarryH
^There have been several Green Lanterns and one is black. Read this! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Stewart_%28comics%
kenshinmac
Yeah it seems based on the wikipedia stuff that the Green Lantern that is associated with the Justice League is that one... So it kinda makes sense...

Perhaps a freefall or something, or a nice big ferris wheel so you can see the surrounding area. I know its pretty hard working in the confines of the height limit and the neighbors, but where there is a will there is a way. As for my next park, I've always wanted to check out SFOT because its the original. Perhaps a Texas Six Flags tour is in order?
Angry_Gumball
I remember last time I rode Voodoo, it had an awful program...only flipped 2.5 times. Before (Back when I first rode it) it used to do 6.5 flips...which even at that I was hoping for more (Which is why I rode it 6 times in a row the first ride on it). USCoaster
As far as I know, Voodoo is still running the same program that it was running when it was first installed. The flipping in the first part of the ride varies with the number of riders. If the car is completely full, you get at least one more flip. I really wish they would change the program once in a while. As for the simulated dolphin sex... Last time I was there, I was treated to a full on sex show in front of the underwater viewing window in the Walrus Encounter.
moinab
Fun report! It gave me some much needed laughs on a slow night, here at work! Loved the walrus signs.
XanderLee
Green Lantern, as seen in Justice League Unlimited, is in fact black. And since that is the current Justice League, that is the one we use. Looks like you had a great time! Very nice PTR. Definitely need to make it out there sometime.
Rollerholden
I don't know when they changed it, but VooDoo is actually on a different program now. I rode it yesterday.. it's.. interesting.

And that shows my lack of superhero/comic knowledge. I just thought they had no one else to wear the costume. I guess I'm just used to Disney
