SigENeaT
Once i line jumped, but i did it with so much gusto that i ended up on the other side of the line, missing my opportunity completely! There is a joke in there somewhere, i promise. I think Robb needs to write a book on park navigation to avoid the long lines. =P
pete4winds
OK, I'll throw my $.02 in...sure, why not? I've been reading this thread for a couple days now, just to see how it plays out...it's been edutaining, to say the least. Maybe I'm just too much of a nice guy for my own good, but I happen to think that people who jump lines are world class a$$holes, full stop, end of story. I will say that it's interesting how this thread has consisted of two completely unrelated yet somehow parallel debates, those being the line jumping issue and the racial one. Personally I think line jumpers are effing scum, and I really don't see ANY racial basis or connection (and I say this as a minority). What I find works really well for me in dealing with line jumpers is this: it really only works with people coming up from behind, but I latch onto both handrails with the deathgrip of all deathgrips, so that anyone trying to pass me has to just about break my arm to do it...the fact that I have this bizarre talent for growling like an English Mastiff when I'm angry kinda helps, and makes the whole experience that much more fun, but it works for me. Everyone has their own way of dealing with the situation. That's mine.
Jew
I have to say that this thread was much better on Monday...when everyone was racist. Or something like that.
pete4winds
^ As I said, it's been edutaining...or would that be entercational? Although, in a sense, you could say it's even better now...the English Mastiff reference makes it not only a racist thread, but an interspecies thread. Jew
^I'm not quite sure how this thread could be considered "Jewish." I think that was a retarded statement to make. Although I guess technically it is Jewish because myself and Wes contributed to it. So maybe it wasn't such a retarded statement to make. Oh, sorry...retarded is too insensitive for this thread. I meant to say your comments were inappropriate.
CTcoastin
Sounds just like an incident that I saw happen at Lake Compounce on Saturday in the Boulder Dash line. Someone tried to stop line jumpers and all hell broke loose. It took forever for security to come and the line jumpers were face-to-face with the people trying to stop them calling them every curse word in the book. One lady even ran out of the line crying because it was getting so scary. It didn't even look to me like security did anything once they arrived. It looked like the jumpers were a mother and child and the mother was the one cursing up a storm and threatening violence right in front of her child. Good example to set for a child, isn't it? kidcoaster
Girls these days. Last year when I went to waldermeer I was walking down the Midway and some random girls comes up to me and starts screaming at me accuseing me of calling here friend a Slu*. I never seen any of them 2 before and there were around 15. I tried to ignor her and walk away but the keeped following me and screaming at me. I went to an employee and the called up security. bigjohnson51
I had a pretty lame attempt of someone trying to cut my family in line and Kings Island last week. A BLACK girl probably about 16 or so confronted me in line for Italian Job. She asked "Can me and my brothers cut you in line?" I kind of stood there for a few seconds trying figure out if she really just said what I thought I heard her say. So I just kind of laughed at her and said "no". She in a dissapointed voice just says "oh", and got in the back of the line. It's amazing how stupid some people are. But at least she was polite about it? Darksin
As a former Disney slave I can tell you, normal CM's have no athority to stop people from doing anything. I doubt that has changed and I've seen fellow CM's get 3 day suspensions from threatening people with park explusion for acting up or just being jackasses. The most they can do is call a lead or manager and ask what to do about the situation. Trust me, finding Leads or Management is like trying to locate an airforce stealth bomber unless your at one of the BIG attractions (and even that is difficult). In many cases mangement doesn't care or has better things to do. I hate to say it but in 85% of the cases the "Magic" is gone from the Disney parks because people just don't care. browntggrr
Girls these days. Last year when I went to waldermeer I was walking down the Midway and some random girls comes up to me and starts screaming at me Funny you mention Waldameer. Memorial Day weekend 2005, I brought my family on the train for a late day ride before the fireworks started. That included my wife, 2 daughters, mom & dad. It is a rather relaxing ride around the waterpark, and my kids love being on a train. During the ride, I kept hearing a banging & rattling noise. It sounded like that there were rocks being thrown at the train. I get a little nervous due to not knowing where this noise is coming from. After looking all around us, I finally saw the culprit. A boy/ man (it was hard to tell) behind us a few seats with a handful of those white/ silver landscaping stones. Getting somewhat nervous since my kids were on the ride, I was able to get my dad's attention and we just sat and watched this guy for the rest of the ride. Apparently, we were not exactly sneaky in watching this guy and when we entered the tunnel, all we heard was the clunking of stones all around us and a whole lot of screaming, swearing etc. We got out of the tunnel and I checked my wife and kids to be sure they did not get hit and everyone was fine. Except the 10 year old girl directly behind us. She got whacked in the eye. It swelled up like a balloon and she started crying. Her sister did as well just because she did not know what to do. Feeling that I had to do something, I told my mom and wife that once the train stopped to take the kids, exit quickly and find security. Once the train stopped, the stones throwers jumped off the train and started running for the exit. But my father and I got in their way. All I was trying to do was hold them up enough till security got there. So of course here is myself (fat, unhealthy, white guy) preventing 4 other gentlemen from leaving the area. There was lots of screaming, swearing, threats, in-your-face yelling etc. I figured I was going to get into a fight, but heck, this little girl was injured for no reason. It could have been my kid. The cops finally got there and started to sort out the issue. I tried to not inflame an already intense situation discussing it with the police. I kept pointing to the guys that was throwing the rocks, and the cop kept asking me which one. I finally described the guy as "The african- american gentleman in the gray shirt." Their whole group (there was now at least 10 of them) started to scream that I was just being a racist, and I had no proof. The cops did finally escort the whole group, physically, from the park. It made for a nervous evening. Even during the fireworks, I was nervous of getting jumped in the parking lot. But the group was escorted out the East entrance, and my family was at the West entrance. Come to find out that the next morning there was an almost near riot situation (http://www.goerie.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20050601/NEWS02/506010399&SearchID=73284736998588) at the park. It really sucks that this happened. I am from Erie, and my kids love fireworks. I just don't want to deal with that kind of crap again. Why do people have to act this way? Is it really their upbringing, or is it just the way society is today? The problem is though, it's not even the younger kids/ adults but even old, fat people in my age bracket. Why is it when people are being held responsible for their actions, there has to be some sort of fight, or the accusing party is then accused of being racist themselves? And this question goes out to all... What is a good age for kids to go off on their own in a park? Many have mentioned about parents treating the park like a babysitter, but when are kids old enough? Spokker
I realize I am late to the party, but Just report them to the cast member next time. There is no reason you had to get into a pissing contest with them. I agree that security is a joke at DL. The girl should have been thrown out of the park, but your group should have been thrown out of line for telling her to shut up over and over, making things worse in the process. Let me just say, you did not make the situation easier for the cast member. They probably just didn't want to deal with ANY of you. I go to the park every week and things like that are a rarity. If you think Disneyland has lost it's magic because of society or whatever, you are either delusional or an elitist and let isolated incidents ruin your day. The vast majority of people who go to the park just want to have a good time and not bother anyone, and that's what I see every time. Some people would say that is racist. I say it is the cold hard facts. Fact: It's also California, which has a more diverse mix of ethnicities. Go to parks elsewhere in the United States and you'll see badly behaved white people. carolinacaniac
Something I havn't really seen on this thread yet is when you have the groups that want to ride togeather on the same train but in different rows. I think most of you will agree that in most cases. people in this situation with uneven rows, the pair in the shorter row will let others in front. There was one instance where a kid behind me inline for Big Bad Wolf at BGE asked me if it was okay for him and his friend to ride ahead of me. While he at least asked, I thought it was a little rude still to do so. What do you all think?
DATman
^Still rude. If his party had some decency, they would let people in front of them. No one is entitled to cut in front, even if it is to be with family. Now, I will say this. I did leave the line for Finding Nemo to go get some Churros and snap some pics of the empty park. I know this sounds weird, but the cast members are perfectly okay with this. I mean, Finding Nemo may be the only exception, but because the line is absurdly long, cast members will alow a person or two from every party to leave and grab some snacks and such. They let everyone do this, so I really don't think it could be considered cutting. If a party were to leave only one person in line, they did refuse to let people in, but if it was only one or two people leaving (maybe a restless kid, or everyone's hungry and they send someone on a food run), it was no big deal. nursemelis374
Since someone brought up the recently opened Finding Nemo I wanted to comment. I, with my own ears, heard Cast Members telling people to go do other stuff while someone waited in line and then come back and rejoin the group. This is especially easy because the line is out in the open so it is really just a matter of ducking under a chain as oppposed to squeezing pass a bunch of people. So, did we do it? Yup, but I would not had the CMs said it was not okay. I was there with a friend and our other friend's 2 little girls. I waited in line while they watched the parade and then my friend waited in line while I took the girls on the Matterhorn. We waited about 40 minutes together as a group for a grand total of about 90 minutes. On a side note, the 5 year old ended up having an accident on the subs. This was not the fault of the long line. It was my fault in that I am not a mother and when I retartedly told her the subs were like an airplane inside, she assumed there would be a bathroom for her to use. She ended up with some awesome 22 dollar too big sweats. I called her "Cholita" the entire night for her low riding pants!!! On a side side note, we saw Lance Bass getting on the subs!!!! BiCoastal Kid
Some people would say that is racist. I say it is the cold hard facts. Just because some people refuse to admit that some races cause more problems than others in the US does NOT mean it's not true. Look at the prison population, look at the stream of terror suspects captured. There are very clear racial patterns. It's not racism, it's fact, backed up by reality. Ignoring it will never make it change or go away. -R I don't think this is put the best of ways. It's one thing to say that there is a high percentage of minorities in the correctional system, but it's a far leap in logic to apply those numbers to society. It's also ignoring a lot of sociological aspects, as well. The number of minorities in jail is a small percentage of minorities in general. To make a statement like this is the equivalent of saying "Christians priests and ministers like to touch children, it happens all the time, and this is supported by facts." Or maybe even, "Africa is AIDS free!" and that's dealing on a larger scale, with multiple races, and there's a larger percentage of "clean" Africans than there are American minorities in jail, and yet you still hear about how Africa is riddled with HIV/AIDS(which it is, but I'm using the numbers here to make a connection). ^Still rude. If his party had some decency, they would let people in front of them. No one is entitled to cut in front, even if it is to be with family. I don't think it's indecent or rude at all to politely ask if you could get in front of somebody GRANTED you have a good reason, like riding with a train full of family. In fact, I would say it's more indecent for somebody to deny them in that situation when all it would cost is a few minutes of somebody's time to be nice to somebody. Also, just a quick comment on a lot of the racist talk in this thread: I think a lot of why people being offended here is context. I agree that pointing out somebody's race in this situation was entirely pointless. Robb brought the example of Joey's "Jew" screen name and how we joke around here. Just because it's okay in one context doesn't necessarily make right in all of them. This isn't just for race related thing either. It's kind of like how you can call your a friend a bitch when joking around, but if you're actually arguing calling her a bitch becomes scathing. This is to posts with a lack of tact.
