Smoker or Non-Smoker

Cigarettes are vile and need to be illegal.

Say that to the people who grow tobacco. They probably don't even smoke, they just live off the mass profits they make. Its like working for Cola but you always drink Pepsi.

 

I'd like to see how things would happen if say, they were comepletely banned and illegal for say, a week. See what happens.

I dunno.. that herb is pretty relaxing to smoke. It does not have the stench that tobacco has and from what I've read the compounds in it reverse the cancerous effects of the tar you get from smoking it. Just don't operate any machinery till you've come down.

 

I suspect it may become legal one day.

I definitely don't smoke. I've never really been peer pressured, and I am a senior in highschool. Sure I've been offered, but anyone who smokes won't think I'm dumb for not smoking. I think it's gross, and an incredably un-smart thing to start doing just because the people around you are smoking. The type of people I hang out with at school don't smoke in the first place. I guess it's just the 'social group' I'm in.

Like Wes, I have a chronic lung disease (asthma) and smoke bothers me greatly. I did try it once and coughed for awhile afterward, then vowed to never do it again---and haven't.

 

Somehow, I'm the only one in my family of five children to not have smoked (both of my parents did, but my mom quit and my dad went on to die from emphysema, and my sister from cancer).

 

I have enough trouble fighting diabetes. Dealing with smoking...just can't do it.

I'm a non-smoker and honestly don't care if people smoke, just keep it away from me. Though I don't have any chronic lung disease, I do get some a bit of coughing from smokers around me.

 

My area has banned smoking in public places and it sounds so foreign to me to go somewhere else and walk into a restaraunt and get asked "Smoking or non?"

A friend of mine recently visited Las Vegas in the States and he told me that it was allowed to smoke inside restaurants, bars etc. But then he visited Los Angeles and it was not allowed. Here in Germany, there is a smoking ban in most of Baden Wurttemberg (the state that I live in) but in other parts of Germany, it is still allowed to smoke in Disko's and in bars. Is the same true for the states where only some states are allowed to smoke inside bars? I think it's quite annoying to go to a bar or a disko and not be allowed to smoke.

Actually there is a new smoking law that went into effect for Clark County (the county that Las Vegas sits in). They are still having a hard time enforcing it. Basically you can only smoke on the casino floor and in bars that don't serve food. This means all those people who are walking through the shopping areas lighting up are breaking the law.

 

Some places are better than others at enforcing it. The hotel I work at put up all the required signs, albeit really small ones, and took out all ashtrays but still people light up. THey even stand next to the signs smoking. So disgusting!

When I moved to Texas one of the more shocking things was that I got asked in a resturaunt if I wanted smoking or non-smoking... Considering I was a kid when they enacted the no smoking in resturaunts law in CA, it was surprising to get asked this.

i am a non-smoker. Just want to add that there really is nothing more repulsive to me than someone who is smoking. I am a manager at a Micky D's and one of my pet peeves is when i am giving a guest their order in the drive thru and the window opens and they blow a big cloud of smoke right in my face. Sometimes i just want to accidently drop theirfood out the window and miss their hand but never actually did it.

I do support any one's right to smoke. BUT, as a father who has a son that is asthmatic, I can tell you that even smoking in a public area "outdoors" can cause other people health problems. My son is highly effected by cigarette smoke. If he were to be walking down an open midway at a theme park, and happened to catch a breath of smoke, we would almost definitely be getting out his inhaler within a minute or two. I think this is something that most smokers (heck even non-smokers) don't give any thought to.

 

 

As the mother in this case, I am glad to see smoking banned in any public place. Smokers need to realize what it is like to see a child (or anyone) cough, wheeze and barely be able to breath because of the smoke. Not to mention the panic in there eyes when they can't even take a big enough breath in to use the inhaler.

 

And I am a non-smoker and always have been.

Whenever I have a smoke, I always make sure that I do not blow it in others faces because of the exact reason that you stated. And I'm sure most smokers don't purposely blow smoke in non-smokers faces. Some people are allergic to it and I respect that so I only smoke with my friends who smoke with me. This is why they have designated smoking areas. But to ban it entirely in public places? That is quite the exaggeration. Where would we be able to do it then?

One time, I had an allergic reaction to a guinea pig. True story. I think they should ban guinea pigs in all public areas because of it.

The stereotype is there because there are smokers that are like that.

 

In RI it is illegal to smoke in any public building and within fifty feet of a door, but still most days when i walk out the building there are four or five smokers right by the exit, forcing me to say excuse me as i walk through their cloud of smoke.

I'm sorry, I know there are respectful smokers and your right, "All" public places was an axaggeration. Most would be nice though and definitely out of main doorways. (There are allot of people who do do this) Designated smoking areas are usually out of the main walking area and don't bother other people. But even though I have never seen anyone blow smoke in my sons face, he still gets effected but it because it lingers in the air.

But I dont mind being around smokers, unfortunately it does bother me sometimes but everyone that I have been bothered by has usually noticed and put theirs out, or moved where the smoke would not affect me. So i honestly dont mind smokers

I don't smoke, and I don't think I ever will. My mom and brother smoke, and my dad used to, so I didn't want to end up like them. I never understood why people enjoy smoking. It's a horrible habit.
