The Rumor / Crazy Idea Superthread

Recommended Posts

After stopping at Delgrosso's Amusement Park yesterday, I decided to take a look at their Wikipedia page and found some interesting edits:

As of 2010, a rumor swept the employees at the park. We have been told that a wooden roller coaster is on site and will be installed when room is made.
Super Spiral (Rumored to be leaving)
Casino (Rumored to be leaving)
NAME UNKNOWN (Wooden roller coaster rumored to be on site)

As much as I don't trust Wikipedia edits, this person made similar claims about the Monster at Lakemont being removed, which turned out to be true. I can say that as a KW employee we heard rumors of a new coaster being built almost three months before Sky Rocket was announced, so I can see where this person may be coming from. The inside of the train loop is prime space for a wooden coaster, and if the Space Spiral and Casino were to be removed (the Round-Up and Trabant respectively), then the park could built a station in that area without the need for a pedestrian railroad crossing. Thoughts?

^I heard that the layout won't fit in the park. Makes you wonder why if DelGrosso's is moving or taking out rides, why aren't they doing this to fit in the Revolution coaster.

Also, what wooden coaster do they have on site waiting to be built? Just sounds very odd.

From Screamscape:

Does Knott’s have something very large in store for the 2011 season? The magic 8-Ball says that all signs currently point to “Yes”. According to a posting at Westcoaster, during the Q2 conference call Cedar Fair confirmed that they would spent between $80-90 million on Capital Expansion for the 2011 season. So far, all we’ve seen announced has been very small fry in terms of dollars spent. $9 million on Planet Snoopy in Valleyfair, $8 million on Planet Snoopy at Dorney and $5 million on it at Worlds of Fun. That represents $22 million so far, and I doubt the rumored Starlight attraction for Carowinds will cost more than $2-3 million. Save up another $5 to $10 million for the rumored StratoSoar at Cedar Point, and we’re still looking at somewhere between $45-55 million unaccounted for so far for the 2011 season.

Who’s left? Michigan’s Adventure is rumored to get a small waterpark expansion, don’t expect much from Kings Dominion after just adding ‘Timmy 305. Canada is rumored for a possible new coaster, but no solid signs yet. California’s Great America always seems to get the shaft when it comes to CapEx and it’s been confirmed form sources that they will not get the delayed GCI woodie for 2011 either. This kind of leaves Kings Island and Knott’s as the big unknowns for 2011, and likely to receive the lions share of the remaining budget.

However, Kings Island did just add Diamondback in 2009… and the last major coaster Knott’s received was Silver Bullet in 2004. Clearly The Farm is not only the most In Need for something major in 2011, but they’ve got a ton of competition to deal with over the next couple of years from rides like Little Mermaid, Cars Land, Transformers and whatever Six Flags Magic Mountain has up their sleeve. Add in all those crazy survey markers spotted all over the park and I think The Farm is preparing for something.

Like they say, “Something wicked this way comes…”

^ If they know it won't fit, and they don't have any plans to install it, why not sell it to another park?

Revolution was my first looping coaster - I'd hate to see it scrapped.

I believe they are scraping the paint off and re-using the paint chips in their next sauce recipe.

I made my first visit in 5 years to King's Island on Mon/Tues. of this week. I got tons of credits for Diamondback, two for Backlot Stunt Coaster, and two for FireHawk, which kept breaking down, once with me on my back in the station for almost 15 min.

While in the "Single Rider Line" for Diambondback, which was being "Completely Abused" by a number of "groups" ahead of me which wanted to skirt the (shockingly long 20 min) 'regular rider line', I got to talking with another guy who had a season pass. No, I didn't catch his name nor did he get mine, but we were chatting about the 'obvious' groups ahead of us who had the nerve to complain that "This single rider line is a waste of time" (Well, YEAH! it IS meant for Single Riders)- anywho, we got to talking coasters and he had this to say:

"Authors Note": Please note this, I am repeating what was said to me. I have posted some duds---Launched coaster/diving coaster for SFGAM. Flying Coaster at SFSTL. But I am also the guy who ran into someone at Cedar Point, who told me Geagua Lake would never reopen, and when I posted this to an online site, almost got banned (not TPR, however) to post, because the info was "unfounded". And that one was true and came from out of nowhere. This guy 'seemed' legit, and he lived nearby the park (South Lebanon, OH, if I remember correctly), so I am reposting what he told me.

1.) Woodstock Express will get a 're-paint'. He didn't say what color but since Woodstock is Yellow and that was the 'orginal' color of that particular coaster, I am guessing it will be.....surprise....yellow. I mentioned that "Flight Deck" could also use a repaint but he didn't say anything about that.

2.)Backlot Stunt Coaster is being shopped around discreetly. It will be there next year, but after that.... (this one kinda surprised me since it's not that old); glad I got my 2 credits on it, but it's NOT worth more that a 20 min wait. I have (and neither did he) any idea of what might replace it.

3.) Son Of Beast- is not going anywhere next year but will not re-open. Word is the timber will be 'recycled' somewhat and the layout will be re-profiled but not until at least 2013/2014. (side note-2014 would be 35th annv. of "The Beast").

Then he got to ride in the front seat of Diamondback and when my turn was called I got to ride in row 13 with some real hairy dude who'd been out in the sun all day and was all man and smelled like it. Yay for me. Glad we were going 80 mph while his arms were in the air. UGHHHHHH!

Launched/Diving coaster does sound like a feaseable option now that the CEO and COO could tap into the Chicago market more...

Hmmm... it seems like they have stripped the ride when ever CF took hold... I would not be surprised if some small park in Asia would pick it up!

This im taking with huge grains of salt. The timber on this ride is already shocked from years of torment! And the GP will still stay away from this rough rider!

THats some good detailed info, for rumors! Can you find more?

If Texas Giant 2.0 works out, I can definitely see parks like KI give their rough wood coasters major rehab to bring it to rideable standards. So far, TG looks like it's gonna be an insane ride after the rehab and it's definitely making a ton of buzz in the enthusiast community, so maybe making the drops and turns a little steeper, rebuilding the loop, and extending the layout would renew interest in SOB if TG's new rehab proves to be successful.

I'm not really sure about the current state of the ride structure or whether or not KI continues to maintain the ride even 2-3 years after the ride closed to the public though. -_-

I am not reading over 1000 posts. If I put an idea that has been talked about then just move on...

Ideas for a drop rides:

-I would like to see a drop ride that takes you to the top of the drop spinning slowly. Once you get to the top it makes one turn all the way around. After that the seat tilts out till you are parallel to the group (facing the ground). After that it drops.

-I would also like to see one that is enclosed and is completely 100% pitch black. This could involve some sort of theming with a scary voice or something.

Scrambler ideas:

-Take a normal scrambler and speed it up really fast, when the car swings out it flings out facing out towards the fance or completely spins all together.

Roller coaster train:

-To help with maximizing the amount of people a tain can hold. They can create a car that instead of sitting in a row behind each other everyone faces out so when you are in your seat you are perpendicular to the track and there could be a row on both sides of the track doubling how many people can be on the car. The seats would not be right next to each other but would be 2 and have a space between them like this -- -- -- -- and so on.

I had almost likely impossible idea. It would be cool if they did it but...

What if the intamin gyro drops made a ride presented by Dyson, where it would go to the top of the tower and there would be a spinning Dyson ball on top of the track. The ride would move onto it and it would Lean them back, forward, left, right and would spin then all of the sudden just DROP!.

Or, just like an ARM-Larson tower, intimin gyro's would go up they're tower and instead of stopping at the top, just drop. And instead of free f all, force drop, it gives more stomach feeling and they are FUNNER! more airtime too. But also like and ARM- Larson tower, you couldn't see when you were gonna drop.

One of the most boring coasters to me.

Drop Tower Idea 1: It's actually been done already. Acrophobia at SFOG spins while going up, and then tilts you at the top (albeit, not perpendicular for force reasons).

Tower Idea 2: Isn't the drop tower at Phantasialand (Mystery Castle or something like that?) an enclosed, dark, drop tower? Not sure on that one though. Of course, there's always Tower of Terror!

Coaster Idea: It wouldn't work because the riders wouldn't have a set center of gravity, so heartlining wouldn't work, and the ride wouldn't be very comfortable. Plus, I think the capacity would be just about the same. Because keep in mind that space not used for legroom is replaced with space for the rider's width. So yeah, it wouldn't really work.

My earlier^ post "rumor" about the giant HDTV screen was just me being sarcastic.....I don't think I am alone in that most Chicagoland patrons are really "Feeling Overdue" for a new "BIG" coaster. I am sad that "Chang" isn't going to be rebuilt here. Iron Wolf WAS great in the day, but I can't even ride it more than two to three times a season because of the "head bashing". I'll put up with rough coasters or coaster that have a few seconds of "uncomfortable-ness" but to have a whole ride go to hell...it's sad.

This is SFGAM's "Son Of Beast" (although not Quite That Bad)....I hate to see coasters disappear, but if I am not going to ride it anyway....

I'd be happy if we got the GCI coaster that was intended for CedarFair's Great America. We need more than a Mad Mouse/spinning Mad Mouse....and the Little Dipper is a Classic, but come on......we need a coaster for the Thrill Seekers. It has been a long, long time.

For a long time we had a winning record, first B&M Diver Machine (Z-force), First B&M Stand-up, Longest Tallest Racing Coaster, Two single train launched/Pulley coasters debuting the same year (almost), Seven-inversion coaster, "coney-Island" style coaster, first B&M HyperTwister....B&M Flyer.....then, well, nothing.....

My .02

^ Yes, they did. And like, as much as it might sound lame, the park could probably count on one hand the amount of times that coaster ran with three trains in the past decade. It might have needed it more when it first opened, but certainly not as much these days.

^ Right. And now SFGadv has two trains for Chang. I was under the impression that there was either only one train for Chang, or at least there was only one that made it to SFGadv.

So the Riddler's train gives them two in total.

I wasn't sure where to post this, but I found this interesting. Remember Rainbow Magic Land? The new park in Italy? The park is opening with 4 coasters from Mauer and Vekoma, but in a photo posted on a blog update on NewsPlusNotes, you can clearly see some B&M on site.

Look in the upper left corner: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_fT2KqDFga4Y/TEi03tTdqQI/AAAAAAAADEs/klmml9JDKFY/s1600/2.jpg

Are they getting a B&M as well?

This post is over a month old but it went unanswered soo...

It's Maurer-Söhne X-Car track, it just also happens to be box section track. The X-Car has had box section (see here), Schwarzkopf style (Formule X at Drievliet in the Netherlands) and a hybrid of both (G-Force at Drayton Manor).

I have an awesome idea. A regular corkscrew coaster, but the cars themselves would lean side to side during turns, loops, or drops. Also, a SUPER coaster. It would start off a basic sit down, but the seats were elevated (Like X) but were above a platform, When the ride goes down, the seats would( like a ferris wheel) rotate so it would be like a Free fall coaster on the drops. Then, it would do a half loop, and BAM you'r hanging like an SLC. Then you could do another half loop and you'd be regular.
