Last year on Easter Sunday I decided to nix typical eating ham, looking for eggs, and eating lots of candy traditions and instead went up to Hersheypark for their Springtime in the Park event. Since last year was fairly nice weather and not very crowded, the plan was to go again this year, which we did. However, unlike last year, this year the weather wasn't as cooperative. Much like my visit in December, the park was brutally cold. In fact, I honestly think it was colder on Sunday than it was during the day the Saturday we did Christmas Candylane, and it actually flurried off and on all day. The only difference between Spring and Christmas was that they were actually running the coasters; well, a few of them. All the newer coasters were closed, with the exception of Wild Mouse, because of the temps. Very confusing that they wouldn't open them in temps under 40 when the same manufacturer created rides ran perfectly fine the day before at Six Flags. But other than the cold weather and half the coasters being closed we had a great time, mostly in part to meeting up with friends Dave and Mary, whom Nicole hadn't seen since the TPR UK trip. Plus we got to finally ride coasters while it was snowing, without having to fly to Japan. I still wish more parks would be opened around here earlier in the year, as Hershey is proof that people will show up, and will wait in lines to ride coasters when it's cold!

oh yeah, and LOTS of candy to buy! I bought enough to hold me over until Hershey reopens in May, hopefully it'll be warmer by then

hersey040732.jpg.8f04d33e5b6c2fff16867808995415e6.jpg

and as usual, no stop at Hershey would be complete without Chocolate World (plus they have a free darkride for Dave! With free chocolate!!)

hersey040731.jpg.e30ba46868f41ca57713a5d88e2866c4.jpg

Dave found his purpose in life. He totally ran to the ticket office and demanded front row seats. Expect a fully detailed PTR shortly after the show!

hersey040730.jpg.e7abff440b7b6abebc112206ebb2219c.jpg

mmmm, smorrific!

hersey040729.jpg.5fae8b60cec710e5cc03bb32336d4860.jpg

On the way out of the park I decided to get a smore, a great idea for Hershey to sell!

hersey040728.jpg.80d9c5b8f07a300cc355a3dd15d12b7c.jpg

and the new Boardwalk area with Lightning Racer. Also on the tower I spotted that the Red Robin was opened, so we ate there :D

hersey040727.jpg.ccfc77e4e68bc41570ef3c6592995ec5.jpg

Storm Runner, still not running

hersey040726.jpg.e01ce1876d529a83373f0eaf36379e7f.jpg

Here's Comet, still with a crowd

hersey040725.jpg.bf0035f662d1f3ad311ff29faf66b3e2.jpg

For all you layout fans out there, here's sooperdooperLoopers whole layout, and the monotonous parts of Great Bear

hersey040724.jpg.ec91498d056f8f68a6c1baf39e8b7206.jpg

and now for some views from the Kissing Tower. Mmmmm, chocolate factory

hersey040723.jpg.50fbc77e48a212f0f5c25bf8a91bbdb6.jpg

Our final coaster of the day was sooperdooperLooper, which even with only 1 train had no wait. Oh, and still only has 1 loop, sorry Elissa.

hersey040721.jpg.660752ddc5158955da3852924e4ea89e.jpg

Lots of people rode the train hoping the steam would keep them warm (or because it traveled very slowly and therefore didn't generate much wind)

hersey040719.jpg.8c6cccebfa97521ebfab6b51a65a61f8.jpg

To complete the Boardwalk theme, they turned the Roller Soaker shop into a Nathan's Hotdogs.

hersey040718.jpg.e552e0676e8487def7f0511cc87fda4a.jpg

Definitely not a Dan-friendly area. And how much fun will it be to ride Lightning Racer after someone with a wet butt? Find out this June!

hersey040717.jpg.d277848b1cdda37ec24f7c718722cc89.jpg

Little Kidtums water play area, definitely a Barry-free Zone

hersey040716.jpg.d4ed637a9e8c5eb2e86b631daf8bac9c.jpg

And now for some pictures of the new boardwalk area.

hersey040715.jpg.66ecc9435306fa61647dbfec002a3a83.jpg

But the Wild Mouse will cooperate. Probably the best ride of the day

hersey040714.jpg.6c8d645b780fa69e6d9e5f2da4e39248.jpg

Here's Wildcat, but he's not playing today either

hersey040720.jpg.b99902d887678eff8627c25a9adc5518.jpg

Nothing says ouch quite like having your frozen ears bashed on the Sidewinder. Dave and Mary were smart enough to bench this one out

hersey040712.jpg.748d3f368719a23756671494ca9e4ec7.jpg

Ah, lucky us, the Vekoma boomerang won't disappoint us today

hersey040713.jpg.ca323eba1b4340bf0ec9f7570f40bcf6.jpg

Storm Runner is out cold. If it's cold, it's out.

hersey040711.jpg.d2840374a36caeaa8ce27f8f0d004323.jpg

"Hi, I'm Storm Runner and I don't like it when the temps below 40, unlike you bunch of morons apparently"

hersey040710.jpg.b8c7c6c0880fa7430055784d5c0921c8.jpg

Mary looks frozen, and Dave is contemplating joining a death metal Eskimo band to keep warm

hersey040709.jpg.2f41a59b87e2c112446347200daf74c9.jpg

And nothing says "I want pneumonia" quite like a ride on the Flying Scooters

hersey040708.jpg.89addbb3838590c9be2872cb65f35502.jpg

The Claw, the real reason anyone would go to Hersheypark in brutal cold weather

hersey040707.jpg.bf0b71eeb8aee8a7a92eb2326789968c.jpg

Good thing for the heated indoor random darkride that has random speeds and some weird theme. Lame that there was no candy at the end though!

hersey040706.jpg.9a47949db147131a6623585cda0e239e.jpg

Two of them crazies include Dave and Mary, who wondered why Comet could run but Wildcat couldn't

hersey040722.jpg.4de3860a152c3aae6e16c33cb1a6ee5d.jpg

and people are also crazy enough to wait in line for any roller coaster that may be opened, like Comet

hersey040705.jpg.5258593cdd3deffd6edd12df903c51af.jpg

No Great Bear for us today, but people are still crazy enough to ride the Wave Swinger, while it's snowing

hersey040704.jpg.4f4d7fea74f307ae81135f5845313895.jpg

Unlike at SF, Hershey was actually a little more busy with families, and giant candy bars

hersey040702.jpg.e83af60720e9b195fe0bbdee8fddc3c0.jpg

At least they warned us of the rides that would be closed unless it warmed up (which it never did!)

11am on Easter Day at Hersheypark during it's 100th Anniversary...and it's freezing!

hersey040701.jpg.faa9a4ab725ece5b1edb40dfb897dd1b.jpg

You know it's cold when the girl born and raised in Buffalo thinks it's cold.

Seeing those pictures makes me question even more why they can't have coasters open for Christmas Candylane. Comet looked like it had a long line (though is there a time it never has a line?) and I think that and SDL should be opened and they would have riders.

Based on your TR last year for Easter, I had been planning for months to go yesterday since I had gone last year on the Saturday where it was too crowded to be fun but the weather didn't work out this year.

Great TR. I have never been to hershey park and NOT had a good time. This is one of those parks that's just all around great. They might not have the biggest coaster's but they are always running (of course unless its freezing out in the spring time).

They also put new trains on Wildcat!!! Which hopefully will improve the ride some.

I did NOT have a good time at Hershey. Had it been about 10 degrees warmer, and more coasters were open, I probably would have liked it. But for now... nope! Not a Hersheypark fan!

Oh the new trains make the Wildcat feel like a whole new ride. So much better.

Great pics, especially from the tower. I think that's the first one I've seen that shows Storm Runner's complete layout- it looks awesome. The boardwalk area looks good- very colorful. It doesn't look like too much fun when everybody's wrapped in parkas on a coaster, though!

It's rather ironic that some of the coasters are open during those cold temperatures. They close all the good ones.

I see you're from Kansas City. I'm from Toronto. How ironic!!

Oh, wait...

THIS

IS

NOT

IRONY.

Seriously, you can't just use that word at any given time!!! Learn how to use words before you make yourself look stupid! Jesus, people, jesus!!!

[Edit: ...nice TR]
