That the company DOES look at internet forums like this, but usually "at home....when they are bored!" Wow, you know, maybe that's not something they should be admitting to on TV? Translation: "We only are really interested in people's feedback when we have ABSOLUTELY nothing else more interesting to do, and we're sick of watching porn." 2. That guy who runs "Inside the Magic" who takes himself *WAY* too seriously! I mean, I've never even heard of that site and his interview makes him sound like he's god's gift to Disney sites. I would expect the *cough* "serious journalists" *cough* who run MousePlanet, MiceAge, DIS, All Ears, or LaughingPlace to have a bit of well-deserved ego, but who the hell is THAT guy?!? 3. The idea that if we get enough people, we could convince Disney to do something. My hopes and dreams for a "two princesses on a waterbed" attraction in Fantasyland might someday come true! We just need to band together and keep posting that's what we all really want at the next big E-Ticket. I haven't been to a Disney park since 2001 even though I have been to LA 4 times since then and Orlando once, but I believe the above suggestion would certainly get me back to Disney. I have heard of his show and I've listened to a couple of them at the request of my cousin. Apparantly he's pretty well known through out the Disney Podcast community which has a very strong following from what I gather. Also, this isn't new news that they read forums. Jim hill media as well as Al Lutz have noted in previous articles that Disney does in fact pay attention to the online community, but I believe this is the first time that they have officially stated that they do listen. USRoadTripper Posted March 28, 2007 Share Posted March 28, 2007 Y'know, I go to Mousefest every year at WDW, and it has always seemed like the Podcasters are way too into what they do. Like, they take it *very* seriously. When they have meets, it's just large groups of people sitting around silently listening to a couple of guys talk into microphones, and everyone treats them like they are celebrities. It's a very strange dynamic...one that I don't care for at all. And while I don't personally listen to it, I do think that Inside the Magic is one of, if not *the* most popular Disney podcast out there right now. As for Disney watching what people say online, not only do I believe it, but I think it's much more common than just while they're bored at home. I have a friend who runs a "tell it like it is" blog about WDW, and he can tell that computers with Disney IP addresses watch his site multiple times a day. He hasn't been able to pinpoint it to who is watching, but someone is. Also knock down the castle and put in a 3rd generation vekoma boomerang coaster. I don't think that this guy was really bored, he just didn't want to admit that all of the coaster forums are awesome. I'd guess that the info they get from forums like these are really far down the list of what they use to base decisions on. If a bunch of forum users dislike an attraction, but the feedback they get from the general public is positive, then the attraction should be considered a success. We are the minority. I'd also like to know what journalism school Brigante graduated from. It's pretty much a farce to call yourself being serious in something you have no training in. He's pretty much insulting the few true "serious journalists" like, say, Daniel Pearl, who got kidnapped and had his HEAD CUT OFF while reporting in Pakistan. However, seeing super collectors like him make me feel better about myself that I'm not quite that bad. I'm close, but not that bad. Well, of course they troll the forums when their bored! That's what we do. What would make Disney any different? It's not major news that they troll the forums and sites. They're word of mouth advertising and it only makes sense that they would want to monitor that. I'm sure there is some very useful information that they could gather about experiences on these boards. However, I think the "decisions" made by the information gathered is very small. It would be things like customer service changes, test and adjust things, and the ilk. So the "please bring [insert name of attraction here] back" pleas will fall on deaf ears. Usually those attractions are gone for a reason. That being said: If they read them, then why is Stitch's great mistake still open ? It's a cult classic in every sense of the word. People miss it and hold it on a pedestal now, but when it was around no one rode it. That's why it's gone, it was unpopular. I love the Haunted Mansion as much as the next coaster nerd. But, I don't go theming out my living room with red velvet curtains and hitchhiking ghosts. I know Tussauds managers regularly read a few of the UK message boards so I guess it's inevitable that companies like Disney would do the same. Saying "only at home when they're bored" is a lame comment though. That's like me saying "sure, I eat....but only when I'm hungry." Just admit that people are paid to research feedback. It's what every good company does to stay on top. Although I sometimes feel Disney must practice "selective reading." Anyway, since they need stuff to read tonight when they're bored, I'll quickly summarize (IMHO) what sucks: 1. Wand. 2. Hat. 3. "Rockin'" (insert ride here). 4. Epcot losing its identity. 5. Stitch Encounter. 6. Using an abundance of Pixar rides as a crutch for a lack of imagination. 7. Insane ticket prices. 8. Lack of Toad. 9. The latest version of Journey Into Imagination...or whatever it's being called now. 10. Eisner. Yep, he still sucks. Now get to work on correcting that stuff. Thanks.
