beatle11
Sorry about the double post, but this is big news. Always sad when the legends hang it up. Best of luck Nicklas. Â http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=397224 Â Â SOURCE: LIDSTROM TO ANNOUNCE RETIREMENT THURSDAY Â Sources tell TSN that Nicklas Lidstrom is ready to call it a career. Â The Red Wings have scheduled a news conference for Thursday in Detroit where the 42-year-old blueliner is expected to announce his retirement. Â Having spent the entirety of his 20-year NHL career in Detroit, Lidstrom leaves the game with an impressive resume. Â Lidstrom is a member of the exclusive "Triple-Gold" club, winning both an Olympic gold medal (2006) and an IIHF World Championship (1991) with Sweden in addition to the four Stanley Cups he won with the Red Wings. Â The most dominant defenceman since the turn of the Century, Lidstrom won seven Norris Trophies in ten seasons starting in 2001. Lidstrom has been selected to play in 12 NHL All-Star Games and was named to the league's First All-Star Team 10 times between 1998 and 2011. Â He became the first European player to win the Conn Smythe Trophy in 2002. Â Taking over the Red Wings captaincy when long-time teammate Steve Yzerman retired in 2006, he would lead the team to back-to-back Cup Finals appearances in 2008 and 2009, becoming the first European player to captain a Cup champion in 2008. Â Lidstrom retires as the active NHL leader in regulation and playoff games played as well as plus-minus. He sat second amongst active players in playoff points and third in regular-season points. Â Originally selected in the third round (53rd overall) by the Red Wings in 1989, Lidstrom racked up 264 goals and 878 assists in 1,564 career NHL games. imawesome1124
This is sad news indeed. He had an amazing career, it's very hard to accomplish as much as he did as a defenseman. The league will miss him.
Sir Clinksalot
Great game last night. Neither team played up to their capabilities so I'm looking for a more intense game 2 on Saturday. Glad to get the win, amazing OT goal by Kopi.
PhantomNick
Yeah, I stayed up to watch the OT, and that was an awesome goal to win it. He stretched Marty out until the last minute and then fired it past him when he had the opening. Great stuff! Â I am amazed how awesome the Kings have been on the road during the playoffs! I wonder if any team has went undefeated on the road through the entire playoffs when winning the Cup??
Top Thrill Dragster
^Nope, the Kings currently hold the record for most consecutive road wins in any one playoff season. Â Â Oh, east coast media and fans, meet Anze Kopitar! That was one heck of a goal in OT by him.
imawesome1124
^ Kopitar is great. He's my favorite King and one of my favorites in the league.

Sir Clinksalot
Tonight is going to be equally parts awesome and sucky. Â Awesome because it's game 3, sucky because I have a softball game at 7:15. Â Thank Turtle for the Sirius app on my phone so we can have the game on in the dugout. Â Just glad it's not a closeout game. If there is a Game 6 next Monday I'll be calling in sick to my game. beatle11
Congratulations to the Los Angeles Kings on their first Stanley Cup. This team is going to be a force for a long time to come. Not surprisingly, Quick wins the Conn Smythe.

Sir Clinksalot
Last night was AMAZING!!! Â Was going to try and get tickets for the Rally inside Staples on Thursday. Apparently all the Season Ticket Holders got them during their presale and are now selling them on eBay and Craigslist. Â I don't begrudge them getting first crack at the tickets, they should, but it's sad they feel they need to make a buck off the rest of us fans. Jew
I had to watch from work, but I had chills running down my spine and nearly cried. Such an awesome feeling. Â Even better is now Ducks fans can't hold a Stanley Cup over our heads. And San Jose hasn't won it yet.
imawesome1124
I will say that even though I wanted the Devils to win I was still happy to see LA win the Cup, especially on home ice. I also really liked the class Marty showed in the final handshake when he just hugged Quick congratulating him. Congrats to LA on a well deserved first Cup. Top Thrill Dragster
Last night was AMAZING!!! Was going to try and get tickets for the Rally inside Staples on Thursday. Apparently all the Season Ticket Holders got them during their presale and are now selling them on eBay and Craigslist.  I don't begrudge them getting first crack at the tickets, they should, but it's sad they feel they need to make a buck off the rest of us fans.   I'm soo happy I was able to pick up a single. It took me 5mins of spamming the Ticketmaster website at 6pm. And to my surprise, Ticketmaster didn't tack on any of their ridiculous fees! So it was truly a free event!   And I bet a lot of those season ticket holders are really ticket brokers, not legit fans.
Sir Clinksalot
^ Agreed, and that's again, really sad. Let us have "something" instead of always trying to make a buck. Â If tickets drop down in the next day or so I may try to snag a pair. Â Funny, just looked on CraigsList and all the tickets for sale have been flagged for removal. Good for them!!! Â No such removal from eBay. Bastages. And yes, they are all brokers. Â If I was Staples I would have charged $10 at the door and had the proceeds go to charity. I would have much rather had the tickets go to something worthwhile than greedy brokers.
imawesome1124
I bet LA would be a pretty awesome place to be right now with the parade. Hopefully I'll get to go to one next year, but that's something we've been saying for too long.
