speedracer
Seems to be the year for park name changes in NorCal, first SFMW, then Bonfante Gardens, and now Great America: http://www.screamscape.com/html/great_america.htm Can understand if the name patent is really the reason why. Otherwise, seems pointless to me, between Marriott and Paramount, the park was simply known as Great America for years. Hope SCBB doesn't get any wild hairs up their arse and change their name too! robbalvey
"Knott's Great America!!!!" OMG!!!! LMAO!!!! Hello Cedar Fair! Has anyone mentioned how *BAD* that sounds??? "Not Great America....." Oh, dear...... --Robb
BrownStreak
They should put the name "Knotts" in front of all of their parks- Knotts' Point, Knotts' Fair, Knotts' Adventure, and then they should build an all new park... Knotts' Landing! ooo ooo ooo...another one....Knotts' Fun

speedracer
LOL! Didn't even realize Robb, but sounds just about right! At least it'll finally be marketed correctly!
cfc
Hoo, boy--another example of corporate genius at work, although I understand their problem, if Six Flags has made a legal claim to the GA monicker. Maybe "Cedar Fair's Ghetto America"?
Sir Clinksalot
Why not just call it simply Great America?? Unfortunately, this may be the first of many bad decisions for the park. EDIT: Just read the entire piece and it seems that Six Flags has rights to the "Great America" name. But still, why Knott's?
cfc
^Possibly because Six Flags owns the trademark to the name "Great America" now (or at least that's Screamscape's theory).
ghost007jas
Brilliant Cedar Fair... brilliant.... Of course this is screamscape so I guess we'll see if this ends up being true or not...
RaptorBoyASU
I can understand wanting to attach the Knott's moniker since it is a recognized "brand" on the West Coast. But did they not listen to how it sounded? Seriously bad judgement call there.
Red
Great America's 2007 park map has been published to the website with no signs of the Knott's title or the Cedar Fair logo. That's not to say they can't change it though. Check it out below... http://multimedia.paramountparks.net/greatamerica/ga_map.pdf
TheGreatOne
Screamscape has found that Cedar Fair has purchased www.knottsgreatamerica.com It currently redirects to the Great America website. This seems certain now.
Jew
It's a perfect it. Great America already lost most of its themeing/charm and the operations were already pretty bad.
Meteornotes
Thank you, Cedar Fair, for my laugh of the day. dt
RollerC
I won't believe it till I see the "official" announcement. I mean, anyone could of regisreted the name. *EDIT* After viewing the Whois, it seems that it may true.
Reon
They should put the name "Knotts" in front of all of their parks- Knotts' Point, Knotts' Fair, Knotts' Adventure, and then they should build an all new park... Knotts' Landing! ooo ooo ooo...another one....Knotts' Fun Dont forget Knott's Island and Knott's Lake
Homer
Knott's Great America? I can not wait for somebody to put an O right next to Knott's so it could say "Knott'sO Great America." This park or Geauga Lake is going to be Cedar Fair's "Astroworld."
PKI Jizzman
...WTF?! There still -ARE- ways CF can degrade Kings Island! Oh jeez....I am scared....
scruffy
I hope Cedar Fair comes up with a better name. Knott's Great America just does not sound right. Good thing Cedar Fair is not call the park Kings Great America.
metrock
Well I guess it is a good thing that SFMM was not sold to Cedar Fair. "Knott's Magic Mountain" anyone?

ginzo
For an even worse idea, they should rename KI to "Don Knotts Island". They can rename Face/Off, a movie nobody has ever seen in the history of the world, to "Three's Company: The Ride". Why? Because it makes about as much sense as this move. GMAN962
That name is so bad it's awesome. This is probably the highlight of my day! If you don't think it's bad, then do this. "Knott's Great America". Just say that out loud to yourself. It sounds HORRIBLE! WOW! -Mike
