Homer
Here is one I snagged off ACN from SFMM's 25th anniversary handbook. http://americacoasters.com/SFMMGuide/Historical%20Photos/19.php

Manic Monte
This doesn't seem like an "intresting" coaster to watch construction on... Well certainly not anymore, but trust me, several years ago I couldn't contain myself when this ride was announced. It's always funny to me when people bash the ride today, because it's become such an "easy target".
jarmor
^ Really...even back then I wasn't all that thrilled about. The first thing I thought was a taller free fall at SFoG lol...
Tmcdllr
How about pics of the underside of the cars?
coasterdude5
^ Yeah, it would be cool to see what the mechanisms are under the car.
iZak
The underside of the cars is nothing special...There are two rails that are the magnetic reactors for the stators, the guide wheels, a brake fin, and the mechanism that controls the seats. Other than that, it's just metal and stuff...
slick
And I suppose they keep that bit ol' pod in the station by means of Fungshui and native Intamin tribal dances? Seriously, iZak is right though, having been fortunate enough to stand directly under one of these pods Intamin have kept things fairly well minimalised in terms of design. Apart from what's affirmentioned, it's basically a lattice of molded steel that keeps everything together. (Mmm.. interesting). I know i've got some photos of the under-carriage of the Tower of Terror, i'll dig them up soon.
robbalvey
omg railz http://rcdb.com/ig140.htm?picture=10 The most interesting thing about that photo is the skyline...or lack thereof.
iZak
^ I don't think Intamin LSMs have brake fins because magnets react as the brake when it changes currents into reverse. The brake fin is there to react with the brake in the station that holds the car in the station after the stators stop firing. This way the car doesn't roll out of the station... Tmcdllr
Why is it so loud? Anyone who has been under the curved part of track when the car goes by knows what i am talking about.
DATman
^That was done on purpose. They wanted it to be heard throughout the park, as it was the tallest and fastest.

It's always funny to me when people bash the ride today, because it's become such an "easy target". I'll admit I was excited too when they announced it, but after my first ride the year it finally opened, I was all "that was it???". Was really expecting some amazing forces on this supposed extreme coaster, but honestly I thought it was and still think it's a big giant $20million forceless yawn. Thats what you get when you have steel wheels on steel rails!!! It sounds like a freakin' jet taking off of an aircraft carrier!!!! And speakin of S:TE, does anyone have any more pics or info on that prototype reverse freefall? I know there was a thread about it, but there wasnt much to it. iZak
Why is it so loud? Anyone who has been under the curved part of track when the car goes by knows what i am talking about. The guide wheels are designed to work like that when they react with the guide rail. I also remember someone telling me that the sound also comes from the main wheels on the car too... ebl
The noise also has to do with the fact that S:TE has an I-beam track. Sound is not as muffled as with tubular steel track. Stand under Jaguar! at Knott's sometime and note how loud it is. It, too, uses an I-beam track. Eric
Tmcdllr
Let me see if I got this right. On a 'regular' coaster car the guide wheels are usually with the rest of the wheels and depending on the configuration ride on the inside or outside of the same track the upstop and running wheels do. But, on S:TE there is a separate guide track in between the regular track that is just for the guide wheels only- in other words the guide wheels are in the middle of the car instead of on the outsides, right? Still think it would be neat to see a picture of the underside of the car. Does one even exist?
iZak
^ No pictures because ride operators really aren't supposed to go under the station track, and you can't really see the understide of the cars from the midway. And yes. S:TE's guide rail is down the center of the track. However, the road wheels and the upstop wheels are in standard configuration.

I think a ride op needs to go under the station track to take some pics-obviously when it's not running. Can't they ask a mechanic to let them down there or at least take the pictures for them? Tmcdllr
^Pure curiosity. The underside is something you never see. Just something different that's all.
slick
Here's probably the most useful footage I have the under carriage while the Tower of Terror is in motion. And while I do have some footage of the control room directly under the station looking up, I can't really imagine how hard my ass would be kicked by Dreamworld, so you'll have to imagine with these photos. Best photo I could find in my five minutes off of the backside of one of these things. It's like coaster porn or something. An empty cycle - just to answer the question about the guide wheels and stuff.
