robbalvey
Hey everyone, Since I've been going through and doing the full updates from our last Japan trip, I realized I never posted much about Aqua Stadium or their bizarre coaster "Galaxy Express 999." I mean...it's a full sized launched looping Intamiin coaster located inside a hotel. Yeah. It's pretty odd! Anyway, I've posted a full set of photos here: http://www.themeparkreview.com/aquastadium/aquastadium.htm And there's a full video (although very dark) of the ride here: http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=308454 Hope you all are enjoying these "extended" Asia photo & video updates! --Robb
deano
Sweet, how do you find these things? The ride looked pretty good, it seemed a fairly gentle launch though.
robbalvey
^ It was....but the turn from the station into the main part of the right was very TIGHT...and so was the loop...or whatever you want to call the "upside down" part. Overall, it was just VERY strange! --Robb "BTW, thanks for doing all the iPod video!" Alvey
deano
Oh well, 'Strange' is better than 'Bad' i guess. No problems with the video's, glad to help out. I'm uploading this one now.
Ryan King
It just reminded me a lot of Rockin Roller Coaster. It looked really fudged up though! -Ryan "Thanks again for letting me experience RRC" King
Satoshi
oh no! i don't think GE999 is kind of some fudged stuff for me at least since the stary space themed zone's lookin' real better than Disney's one, i mean Space Mountain..... the POV does show it, no doubt..... viking86
Looks like a fun ride! Surprising to see lapbars on an Intamin looping coaster. And it was even more surprising that there were no headrests, even though the launch didnt look that strong...
coastrfreak2000
No seatbelts... No headrests... Lapbars....and a loop... Very odd...
larrygator
I must be wearing magic glasses because I see headrests in the photos.
SharkTums
^Maybe headrests for Japanese people...or people of your height range! Your head and neck stuck over pretty good though.
Cerberus
No seatbelts...No headrests... Lapbars....and a loop... Very odd... Don't forget the full row articulation of the trains. Another Intamin rarity. Looks like fun. I assume there’s a second boost of speed after the first turn and before the loop?
KrakenKing
Yeah, I was wondering if you got any whiplash at all during the launch or the loop. Very rare to see a looping coaster with no headrest. Only other I've seen was Revolution at Magic Mountain when it first debuted.
disneyfan1313
Wow - that is pretty wacked out. I love it when a ride surprises you like that.. it makes it so much more enjoyable even if it was a so-so ride
Satoshi
^ yeah i agree. looks like GE999 is kind of awesome ride but it starts to be really lame when the ride's done the loop. but looks like it's better than Disney's Space Mountain.
rollermonkey
Just remember, this is a tire driven launch. It's nowhere near as forceful as the hydraulic launched Intamins. There is no second boost, it's a series of tires.
Movieguy
I don't get to see enough indoor, space themed coasters outside of Disney's, so this was a real treat for me. Sure it's different...but different is good to me.
robbalvey
Time to unstick this. If you haven't seen our full update of this VERY bizarre coaster, check it out here: http://www.themeparkreview.com/aquastadium/aquastadium.htm And there's a full video (although very dark) of the ride here: http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=308454
