J man
I usually take mine off while riding, just to be safe. But I usually leave my glasses on on the smaller coasters.
TheBannedKid
^Same here but today I rode all coasters with my glasses on...Batman, Riddler's, and I would have worn them on Tatsu if the crew didn't suck.

FlippyTrick09
Hey, your glasses could always pull a Final Destination 3 on you and get caught on the track, and send everyone flying to their deaths... Just a thought... probably would never happen, but you should be careful.
ahecht
I always wear my sunglasses on rides unless the ride ops specifically tell me not to (and that's usually only on launched rides). Wearing the sunglasses allows me to keep my eyes open the whole ride without worrying about having to squint into the wind or getting something in my eye. I don't have a strap, but the sunglasses fit me well. The only time they've ever come close to falling off is on the heartline roll on Stormrunner. chrguy606
when I rode glasses, I never took them off, bar my first ride on alpengeist, in may 0f 97. I wasn;t sure then, but ever since then, never had a probelm on anything, which includes alpengeist again, drachen fire, texas giant, titan, etc. since the army paid for me to get PKR surgury, though, won;t have to worry about it for a long time, hahaha. i like to reserect old topics....... Crazy_Behemoth_Lady_Jess
I've ridden several coasters with my sunglasses on and never had a problem. If I'm really worried I'll just take them off. Now I just reminded myself to get a strap for my sunglasses. I've worn hats, bandanas and paper bags (yes, paper bag) and they never flew away. Obviously I would never wear a hat or sunglasses or a paper bag on a 200 ft + megacoaster. A catchy (but slightly violent) way I like to think of it is "Retrieve a lost hat and you could go splat!" ~ Jess "The bag head" Chan Paper bag head 001.tif I'm under the paper bag. Yes they let me buy the picture andthe photo booth girl just giggled. And the bag did not fly off or anything.
Kennyweird
^WTF?! I always wear my glasses, but I use an adjustable strap just to be on the safe side.
Chris Benvenuto
I wore my glasses on every Kings Island ride, and no employee ever told me to take them off. But, in all honesty I need to get a strap for my glasses. Mainly due to the fact I get told to take them off sometimes at CP. The whole thing I experienced at Kings Island was weird, CP is literally 50-100 miles to the North and they don't observe the same rules? or enforce them at least? The only thing they really cared about was loose articles, and by that was cameras, cell phones, etc.
B-RadG
I don't wear my glasses unless I need to see (and I don't need to see stuff/signs/words faraway at amusement parks) However, my friend wore her glasses on everything at Busch Gardens Williamsburg and Kings Dominon and never lost them. I can see how an extreme launch coaster like TTD would cause you to lose them, but as long as they curve around your ear you should be fine otherwise. mcjaco
I've worn hats, bandanas and paper bags (yes, paper bag) and they never flew away. I would strongly urge everyone here to NOT wear a paperbag. I'm surprised you weren't asked to leave to park.
Godwyn
I think I have been able to wear my sunglasses (with a strap) on every coaster I've been on except a kiddie coaster at Rye's Stabland...er...Playland. The ride op wouldn't start the ride till I took them off. I mean, come on, it goes what, 15 mph? Like my glasses are going to fly off!
JFrombaugh
I always take mine off before any major coaster ride just to be safe. I'm thining about getting a strap for park visits though. I found this video of some guy riding floorless ShieKra for the first time and after the train drops you'll know why I posted it here.

Erm, that's because its Playland and they're used to stuff like that. They don't really care what you bring on the ride (they even allow bags) and I have never seen anyone told to take off their glasses. During Fright Nights alot of people wear costume masks too and they buy their on ride phtos too. I even asked the ride attendant whether I could wear the paper bag or not, he said its ok. justint87
I personally have always worn my glasses on all the coasters I have ridden and never had any problem with them coming off. Only on Manta did I not wear my glasses because of the position I would be in. You could take a look at the coasters I have ridden by clicking on my counter below. To me, those are fine with glasses. Then again, I have no problem on SheiKra but the guy in the video did.

alpengeist04
I had no problem wearing my glasses (with a strap) the other day on Manta. IMO, it's a great investment if you don't like contacts. In the two years I've been wearing them on coasters, I've only been asked to remove them once. ...And that was at Wild Adventures.

Teacups Make Me Sick
^Or the person behind that gets hit in the face when a mask, paperbag, cell phone, or whatever else people think they can hold onto while on a ride. I'm surprised the park allows such a thing. People should have straps on there glasses and certainly shouldn't be wearing paperbags on there head. I rememeber sitting in the backrow on Kingda Ka and some jerk a few rows ahead of me lifts his hand up with his cell phone in his hand (of course trying to take a POV shot)....I yelled at him to put his cell phone away NOW (along with some profanities). Luckily, the kid didn't fight with me on it and put his phone away. Smart move.

monsterfan99
^^Not just the people on the ride, but for the people on the ground. I got back into coasters in August and in the time I've been hit with over 5 bucks in change (mostly quarters) and had cameras, cellphones, hats, glasses, a fanny pack and other stuffed items fly at me. There is no reason to have this stuff out on rides. With the glasses, my fiancee always put her away for fear of losing them. She has since moved onto contacts, which have been no problem except for Son of Beast.
shepp
Ah, welcome back, old thread. I always wear my glasses, always with a Croakies strap. My vision's really poor without them, and besides, just like I'd never ride my motorcycle without eye protection, I'd rather not have a Sandusky bug hit my eyeball when I'm going 90 mph. And, of course, having survived a near-miss with a cellphone a while back, I understand that it's only considerate to others never to ride with unsecured eyewear. The only ride I've been on that consistently forbids strapped glasses is XCelerator, weird when there's no problem riding its bigger and faster sibs TTD and KK with them on. Last time I was at KBF, I'd forgotten to carry a hard case and just stuck them in my pocket. They were trashed by the end of the ride. First time I rode Tatsu, I was also forced to take them off and stick them in an unsecure jacket pocket (I am NOT gonna leave them on some boarding platform). Since then, Tatsu's changed its policies, as has Speed:The Ride.
Mr.Six
Yeah, as someone who's worked in multiple theme parks I can safely say that the concern isn't about YOU. Its not about you losing your $300.00 glasses, the baseball cap you've had since your a kid, your mickey ears , are god forbid some dirty bag you just picked up off the floor and decided to place on your head. Its about the safety of everyone behind you. I can't tell you how many times I've had to deal with injured guests due to some ignorant guest who decide to place their hat back on after a vehicle has left station.
