Silver Dollar City (SDC) Discussion Thread

p. 275: New resort announced as part of a $500 million development plan!

Recommended Posts

Was catching up on this thread and was reminded of something when the food discussion was going on.

If you get the chance, the Red Velvet Fried Oreo's are MANNA FROM HEAVEN. Seriously - my mouth went into shock from the sheer joy of them and I'm pretty sure I had multiple foodgasms.

I second this and what..it was like 7 or 8 bucks and it took 5 people to finish it haha.

It's been said that whatever is coming will be a first of its kind and a huge attention getter. Lol Maybe it will be an unexpected debut of a B&M spinning wing coaster. A development like that would definitely step on the toes of S&S Arrow's 4D coaster design.

More like a launched dive coaster (make that work somehow) with 76 inversions

The train is pulled up the hill by chain, rolls over to the holding brake, and the train is accelerated while it falls, making you fall faster than gravity.

That's one way to do it! Then we should also have a loop taller than the drop. That would be a first

Woah. I've had deep fried Oreos, but not *red velvet* deep fried Oreos. That sounds AMAZING. I'll definitely have to try those out next time I'm at the park (need to get me some of that new fry bread, too).

Making the trip to Silver Dollar City for the first time Friday. Any advice for a first-timer at the park?

Ride Outlaw Run and Powderkeg early since they are temperamental and often crowded. Everything else, other than shows, can be worked in whenever.

I recommend the saloon show - it's not too long and is a bit of fun that shows off the character that made this park what it is.

Also don't forget that there is a cave to take a tour of, if you are into that sort of thing or want a cool way to escape the heat without getting soaked.

You consider OR to be temperamental?

I always go for that beautifully smooth and reliable B&M known as Wildfire. That view over the hillside at the first drop is amazing. Then I like to hang out with an old classic... ThuNderaTion. Probably one of the best if not the best mine train coasters in the world. It's fairly intense for what it is too.

I'd for sure consider Outlaw Run temperamental.

We visit the park every other weekend, and every time we are at the park Outlaw Run breaks down at least twice a day, that we know of, I'm sure more than that and we just are not aware of the other break downs.

Huh, I never notice OR broken down when we go.

Outlaw Run us much more reliable now than it was in 2013. It and Powder Keg just aren't rock solid like the other coasters, but Outlaw Run doesn't break down nearly as often as it used to. Most of the time the "breakdowns" early on were not actual problems but sensors that had been tripped. The crew is more experienced now, and they don't trip the sensors like they did in 2013.

Not nearly as much as PK, but some days it can be a pain apparently. That was more of a blanket statement for the both of them. PK is usually acting up and OR is usually crowded if the park is crowded.

OR apparently had more issues early on simply because of the parts the park chose to use in an attempt to cut costs. They recycled some of OzCat I've been told.

The only parts I've heard they used form OzCat were the gates and control panel, which shouldn't be causing too many problems. Whenever I visit, Outlaw Run is rarely down. It usually breaks down once a visit for me, and normally it's back up and running within 10 minutes. Now, Powder Keg is always breaking or shut down because of "wet track" as the ops tell me. I've never really understood how a ride could be so sensitive to rain.

From what I have been told by the ride operators throughout the years is that Powder Keg is "sensitive to rain" or closed because of "wet track" mainly because of the transfer track right after the station having problems getting traction when the track is even just slightly wet.

Really? I thought it was because you can't light a fuse for a powder keg that well in rain

Planning our trip for this weekend...record level heat....no big deal. I couldn't find an answer to this question on the SDC website...but do you all know if the drink vendors will fill outside containers with water for free? SFSTL does this with any bottle brought in to the park, and we were wondering if anyone has done this.

Hitting the stampede, acrobats, and as many tracks as our heat tolerance will allow. Likely skipping white water though.

Maybe doing the ducks.

Open to suggestions (done titanic, and we aren't country nor religious).

Never heard of the park doing this, however you can always get water for free throughout the park, and then you don't have to worry about dragging around a container all day!!

The ducks are amazing! I always enjoy doing them, and I highly suggest Showboat Branson Belle! It's so entertaining, and has nice food!

Yeah, but if he is going to do Dixie Stampede, it's a little redundant.

The hatchery at the dam is cool to visit. Top of the Rocks is pretty cool as well. Talking Rocks Cavern over in Branson West would be another way to get out of the heat. IMAX is another way to beat the heat.
