Silver Dollar City (SDC) Discussion Thread

p. 275: New resort announced as part of a $500 million development plan!

Anyone get the new future rides / attraction email survey?

There are numerous options mentioned but I thought these two would pique your interest...

Family Thrill Coaster - Ride the WORLD’S MOST DARING new coaster. After launching from 0 to 70 mph, you’ll be flying up and down the hills in a coaster train with seats that spin modestly as you turn upside down 4 times.

Family Thrill Dive Coaster - Take a ride on the TALLEST, FASTEST DIVE coaster in the world! As you make your way to the top of the lift, the train brakes suddenly to suspend you as you look straight down. The brake releases, and the train “dives” taking you into the hills, where you will turn upside down 4 times.

The rumors from the general rumor mill say that a 2017 coaster project is already in motion, so without knowing much else, I'm wondering if they are already discussing another big project behind this one, or if they're trying to subversively gauge how well received a new dive coaster will be in 2017. I'm just thinking back to 2012 or thereabouts when we first saw the pitch for Outlaw Run presented in a similar survey, and sure enough a few months later it was under construction. You'd think things would be set in stone sooner, but its hard to tell what their schedules are or what the real purpose of these surveys is.

If it is a B&M dive coaster I would be surprised if it breaks Valravn's records. I would imagine Cedar Point at least made an effort to require B&M to not build a larger one within X number of years, but it's anybody's guess really if that actually happens or if B&M agreed/would agree to it. It's an interesting question nonetheless.

Neither of those attractions appeal to families. Also, if this was for 2017, why would they send out a survey? The project should at least be in the planning stages right now.

I'm surprised either of those options say "family". I don't consider a 70 mph launch, or a dive coaster "family" lol!

That's just what SDC does. "Family Ride" in the SDC dictionary is defined as "Anything involving the general movement of guests." They still to this day consider Outlaw Run a family coaster even though it is one of the most intense coasters I've ever ridden.

The dive machine has been rumored since before Outlaw Run, and if RMC hadn't come along, may have been built instead. Not that I'm complaining at all. Outlaw Run is an incredible ride. But I wouldn't be surprised if they pursue it now, especially since those are getting a bit of a resurgence with Oblivion, Baron, and Valravn.

Wildfire remains very popular, and a dive off the side of the mountain west of Powder Keg would be incredible. They've been keeping that spot free for an expansion point since 1999. Depending on placement, it could possibly dive into a tunnel. Theme it to an expedition trying to find the bottom of Marvel Cave's bottomless passage.

They could be referring to 'tallest' meaning the tallest drop - if it dives off the side of a mountain, it might be shorter than Valravn but have a longer drop because of the terrain?

IIRC there was a huge debate between SFFT and Cedar Point about whether the original Rattler was actually taller than Mean Streak, with the final decision being that one single bent at Rattler's highest point went all the way to the floor, which makes it taller by about 15 feet. We could see something similar here, but without it actually being technically 'taller'. Everyone gets a record, Oprah-style!

I'm on team Dive Coaster! I would love a Mack launcher, but I really don't prefer spinning personally. If there was a non-spinning option, that could be neat. But for now, I'm definitely hoping for the worlds tallest Dive coaster!

I'm hoping for a dive coaster as well. I've never been a huge fan of Wildfire, so another large, looping B&M would be perfect.

^Wait?

You dislike a similar B&M coaster at SDC. So you want them to build a bigger similar coaster as the one you dislike?

Huh?

I was thinking the same thing when I read that post!

Now I really need a drink.
