Via Screamscape: OzCat is finally coming down.

Not a huge surprise, but it's a punch in the gut all the same. This might have actually been one of the best coasters GCII ever built. It was severely underrated. The pacing, sweeping curves, and airtime where all just perfectly orchestrated. I honestly hope they build a clone someday somewhere.

I rode OzCat in one of its last 2 seasons of operations and couldn't get enough of the thing when I visited Celebration City. Maybe part of the reason was that all rides were night rides, but I still loved the thing. Why are all the GCIs disappearing this year?

I wouldn't say it was severely overrated since practically all seasoned enthusiasts who rode it said it was by far the best GCI coaster. Unfortunately I never rode it.

I was lucky enough to get in about 30 rides on Ozark Wildcat when it was up and running, and I do agree... It was by far one of... if not the best GCI coaster I have been on. I was really hoping that the ride would get relocated to a new home (Even though I imagine the cost of relocating the coaster would be astronomical, thus making it not a practical decision.) It was a good ride, and you never want to see a good ride find its way to the chopping block.

I know, for most amusementparks, rain often holds off most of the crowds. Being a music festival time, do you think the rain threat over the rest of the week will hold off much of the crowd?

Honestly I think SDC is one of the few parks where the rain doesn't scare away the guest. I have been to the park MANY times when it was raining, or started raining and it really didn't seem to be causing people to leave. I'm guessing the whole music festival thing will keep even more people at the park, even during the rain. (Obviously unless it's a thunderstorm)

Rain absolutely scares people away. It's been a huge problem during the past few years because we've had extended rainfall right on a lot of peak weekends.

There are still a lot of people who come just for the shows and crafts, but not as many as there used to be.

Two different answers, and don't know what to do! Haha. Guess I'll just have to find out today and see what happens. Everything was a complete walk on yesterday with one trains on all coasters. Yesterday was an example of appropriate one train use. Take note six flags

The one time that I went with the wife and kids we had two day passes, the first day it was raining periodically off and on and the crowd was very light so not much wait times and then we came back the next day, and it was hot and sunny and there were long waits.

It certainly scared off a good number of people today. Virtually everything was a walk-on, including all the coasters, with a 2-3 train wait for the front or back. It was overcast but no actual rain after about 9 AM. Perfect day!

Scarecrows are the only scares you'll find here.

Hill street was all decked out. Nature outshines even the impressive level of theming SDC has. Fair warning: lots of pictures of trees ahead.

Just a couple more weeks until an Old Time Christmas. Some if the decorations were out already.

The frogs are happier among the fall colours.

Some happy insects among the trees.

The crafts booths are spectacular as always. They don't generally like you taking pictures of their stuff, so I don't. The trees here are beautiful. This is near Echo Hollow.

JJ Fiddle--ahem, Lucky the Fire Dog store.

It was decently warm today, and very humid. There were a few people on Lost River. We skipped it, though.

That's right, it's the woods.

Old and new together. Still love that old bridge.

Thursday and Friday was absolutely dead. It was great not having a two train wait for powder keg! I honestly feel Wildfire gets a bigger rattle every time I go. I hope they can get it under control. Also, there is new, much darker padding on the shin bars on one of Outlaw Run's trains.

Just received the following press release:

Silver Dollar City’s ‘An Old Time Christmas’ Presents

NEW Rudolph’s Christmas Town, Plus Light Parade,

Musical Productions and 5 Million Lights

November 7 - December 30

(Branson, Mo. 10/2015) Silver Dollar City lights up its brightest season beginning November 7, presenting the new areas “Rudolph’s Christmas Town” and “Santa Claus Lane,” plus the $1 million light parade featuring the beloved Christmas character Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer for An Old Time Christmas. One of the nation’s most acclaimed holiday festivals, An Old Time Christmas also features a 5-story Christmas tree with a light and sound show, Broadway-style musical productions, holiday foods and five million lights, November 7 – December 30 at the Branson, Missouri theme park.

Rudolph’s Christmas Town features characters from the popular television special “Rudoph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,” the longest-running, highest-rated Christmas special in television history. Kids can meet Rudolph and Clarice, and Rudolph’s friend Bumble the Abominable Snow Monster. The area also presents activities from Reindeer Games to cookie decorating. Santa is available to talk with kids in an all-new area, Santa Claus Lane.

One of the festival’s most popular features is Rudolph’s Holly Jolly™ Christmas Light Parade, led by the most famous reindeer of all. As Grand Marshal, Rudolph leads the evening parade of nine musical, lighted floats – one featuring Sam the Snowman -- as it winds through the streets of the City. The floats, illuminated with 200,000 ultra-bright LED* lights , were designed exclusively for Silver Dollar City, with animated features from huge drumming bears and cymbal-playing penguins to a cowboy doll rocking on a hand-carved wooden rocking horse. The parade is accompanied by 33 colorful costumed characters, including Bumble the Abominable Snow Monster, 14-foot moose characters, 12-foot tall elves and 10-foot candy canes, plus penguins, elves and a troupe of marching wooden soldiers.

The parade follows the lighting of the 5-Story Special Effects Christmas Tree on the Square, a towering icon with over 350,000 colorful LED lights that is the centerpiece of the Christmas on Main Street light and sound shows beginning at dusk each evening. The massive tree blazes in synchronization to the musical movements of Christmas songs -- up to 100 light changes per second -- while lights around the Square flash along with it, accompanied by surround-sound.

The new $8 million themed area Fireman’s Landing is fully decked out for Christmas with dozens of decorated trees, lighted buildings and light-wrapped trees with animated starburst lights. Fireman’s Landing’s rides are open, weather permitting, and the indoor interactive play zones provide temperature-controlled fun, all with theming that salutes the spirit and training activities of community volunteer firefighters.

The festival also features two popular musical productions, It's a Wonderful Life and A Dickens’ Christmas Carol. It’s a Wonderful Life presents a musical interpretation of the inspirational story that was voted the #1 “Inspirational Film of All Time” by the American Film Institute, and features unique special effects and a talented cast of 14 singer/actors. A Dickens’ Christmas Carol, also an original musical adaptation of a famous classic story, includes elaborate sets and visual effects, flying spirits, pyrotechnic special effects and a talented cast of 15, accompanied by a live band.

Since its debut more than two decades ago, Silver Dollar City’s An Old Time Christmas has become one of the country’s most recognized events for spectacular lighting and world-class entertainment. Profiled as one of the nation’s top holiday celebrations by USA Today, CNN Travel, The Travel Channel, Good Morning America, AOL Travel, Yahoo Travel and MSN.com, the festival transforms the entire 1880s-style park into a glowing wonderland with 1,000 decorated trees and five million lights.

Guests can view the park’s lights from high above the ground too -- in temperatures down to 42 degrees, guests can soar into the night on the park’s coasters and rides, including the ground-breaking top-rated wood coaster Outlaw Run**. Fine craftsmanship is also showcased, as the park’s 100 demonstrating craftsmen create one-of-a-kind handmade holiday items, from blown glass ornaments and angels to pottery dessert platters.

The tastes of the season are in abundance throughout the park, including a prime rib buffet and traditional favorites such as turkey with apple-raisin dressing. Festive holiday treats from apple dumplings to hot wassail can be found throughout the park, and the bakery cooks up fresh homemade fruitcakes. For kids, there’s a lunch with Santa, available on weekends, and classes at the Midwest Living Culinary & Craft School feature holiday specialties.

During An Old Time Christmas, Silver Dollar City is open Thursdays through Sundays through December 20, plus Wednesday, November 25 and Monday - Wednesday, Dec. 21-23, closed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, and open daily December 26-30. Hours are 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. most days, with extended hours on Saturdays and Thanksgiving weekend – check the website for exact schedules. ^How dare you go about making sense and stuff! We're coaster enthusiasts damn it! We speculate, and postulate, and fabricate false truths from thin air! Then you go off all willy nilly and throw in common sense?! Who do you think you are? You call yourself a coaster enthusiasts? You disgust me! Well Mr. "I was raised by humans," I beg to differ. These are obviously alien monoliths created to transport vapid children to the vast soul sucking netherworld of space and time.

See! That's the way to speculate.

Who's with me!

The family and I are headed down to Branson next week... can't wait to FINALLY ride Outlaw Run. Anyway, the admission price is $60, but was wondering if anyone knows of any businesses or products that my have a discount coupon for SDC.

Some of the "Branson Ticket Outlet" places along 65 will occasionally do 2 days for the price of 1. I don't know if they would have one during the dates you're looking to go, but worth a shot. From my understanding, the best one for deals is in Saddlebrooke, 4 miles north of the Ozark Mountain Highroad.
