Silver Dollar City (SDC) Discussion Thread

p. 275: New resort announced as part of a $500 million development plan!

No It was powder keg. I mean it wasn't exactly on my knees. It was on my thigh close to the knees hitting on the side of the seat. It just shook my legs soo much. Yes thunder action was uncomfortable too. Trust me SDC is my home park. Ask me any question I should give a true answer

I remember riding powder keg last year and I could only ride it a couple of times because it was really rough. I had bruises on the sides of my knees. If anyone knows, is it doing better so far.
I actually recall getting off of Powder Keg after a ride in the last car, last seat, left side and having cuts on my hip bone from the lap bar, and bruises from my knees slamming together just before the lift hill. I just thought it was because of my body build so I never thought much of it. Glad to know i am not the only one who has had this issue. Still a great ride though.

Anything new with the mysterious construction going on?

I didn't see any construction when we were there last weekend. There's a new game stall by the Barn Swing and a new popcorn stand at the Frisco Barn. That's about it.

Oh, yes, and there were WAY fewer benches in Half Dollar Holler. You know, the place where we ABSOLUTELY NEED MORE BENCHES.

Are you thinking Thunderation? Cause Powder Keg's cars don't have sides.

I could see how people with shorter legs could have that problem if the ride was rough. Look at the person in the second row in your picture. However, I don't think that Powder Keg is rough at all really.

I will definitely say that Thunderation is rougher than Powder Keg. TnT's turn before the lift alone is brutal, and I felt that a majority of the ride was shaky. I will say, though, that I am a proponent of the old Buzz Saw Falls track on Powder Keg being converted to S&S track!

You didn't notice the massive clearing behind GG that everyone's been talking about?

Haven't seen any new photos since the last MiG update. It'll be a month before I get out there myself, but I don't expect them to move too quickly just yet. It seems to be all clearing and land prep at this point.

Rumor is they will have to reroute the train to make room for the area. Also Geyser Gulch is Scheduled to close at the end of August so we can expect major construction to start then. Apparently this is a fairly LARGE project from whats being said. Well see though. I'm excited SDC always does a good job!

(This is apparently a entire new section for the park! My hope is it will include a new dark ride!)

Outlaw Run was closed today (at least up until around 4:30pm when I left the park ) not sure it ever opened if anyone is planning on heading to the park this weekend. Crowds were still very light - I overheard a ticket taker commenting how she hadn't seen a season so slow in many years.

Well, it is one of the coldest springs Missouri has seen in a while. It really isn't theme park weather yet. I'm sure the summer will still be crowded.

Once again this year the weather hasn't been cooperative for much of the season so far. It will get better, things usually even out, but I do wish they'd catch a break and get a consistently good season for once. Now that the weather is picking up and school is getting out though, expect it to start staying busy through summer.

No, we didn't go over to that area this past weekend. We did on our first trip opening weekend, but I didn't realize there would be anything cool to look at. If they did have anything then, I didn't see it. So the rumoured Geyser Gulch expansion is actually happening. I will have to investigate next time we're there, which will probably be early May.

Really? Wichita's not exactly close.... Frontier City is literally 100 miles closer to you.

The reason I call it my home park is that we go there the most out of all out local parks. Frontier city just doesn't do enough for me. I mean it is nice and all but SDC is extremely far superior

^That definitely bodes well for all future installations (glad RMC caught this early so we aren't left with a bunch of parks too cheap to upgrade). My issue was actually that they pressed my legs into the bench behind them, but I still imagine the shape will make them more comfortable.

It's also a nice contrast to the evolution of Premier leg bars. I never had an issue with them and didn't "get" why so many people complained...but then they started getting worse and worse with each installation!

So I am not normally the type to tout a business. BUT during my last trip to Branson I found this AWESOME coffee shop called Vintage Paris

I'ts right across the river in Hollister. If you like coffee I suggest it! (literally the best coffee I've ever had) A really nice cozy place to hang out too! Made my trip that much better!

Also if anyone is in the area, there is this place called Grandma Ruth's that makes the most amazing cinnamon rolls EVER! Oh and when you go in, Grandma Ruth is ACTUALLY sitting there making the cinnamon rolls! Just a couple things I thought I would suggest for anyone going out to ride OUTLAW RUN! Believe me it's worth it

I would say lines no longer than an hour except for outlaw run which has the most random lines I have ever seen. I would say start with thunderation then go to wildfire then powder keg and then down to outlaw run. It saves walking distance since it goes down a long path. That's the order I do anyways.

I think you definitely want to start with either PK or Outlaw Run. Powderkeg still has a lot of downtime, so you want to hit it up and get a few rides in when you can. Outlaw Run's queue will spike briefly about an hour after opening, go down some, and then hit a peak in the afternoon. Near closing time though it will empty out considerably. Don't worry about getting on Wildfire - it has remarkably better capacity and a much smaller audience, so even on busy days it will only have a 10-20 minute wait. Thunderation never has too much of a wait either, unless they are only running one train.

After morning rides, I recommend seeing some shows. The new saloon show is supposed to be good.

I don't think the crowds will be terrible. It sounds like it will be a nice weekend, but school isn't out just yet... It might be busy, but not jammed like it will be on weekends later in the summer.
