Silver Dollar City (SDC) Discussion Thread

p. 274: New Fire in the Hole announced for 2024!

All right, I'll bite because I'm curious where you're going with this

What's your "ideal" park then if SDC is so hideous.

Dude has never seen where the Star Flyer on Galveston Pleasure Pier was put if he's questioning that placement. Look, everything I posted is just some pie in the sky vision. I think it could be done.

Now if he's got something against SDC well that's crazy. He lost me at favoring surface lots over attractions. A simple google image search for mixed use entertainment complex degelopment can give you all kinds of ideals.

I said somewhere on here what I hate so much about S.D.C, but I do favor ground surfacing and normal stuff like that. It just looks prettier to me to see a ride surrounded by trees, shrubs, and flowers, and sometimes fountains, simple things like that. Oh. And I'm going to S.D.C tomorrow, I need a thrill fix and I feel like riding Accelerator. If anybody else is going I'm the kid with blonde hair, brown eyes, wearing black or maroon high tops, with the semi fat tall kid that's probably wearing a car shirt, and the blonde young lady. If you see me just call me Eli Mertens.

Why would anyone want to hang out with a punk that would obviously ruin a great park experience?

If you think SDC is "teh sux" you obviously haven't traveled much.

I've gone to all the parks in Missouri, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Iowa. Although my reasoning for going to Adventureland was strange to most. I wanted to ride their Carousel really badly. Must've been strange for people to see a thirteen year old on a carousel but it was a quality Carousel. But I wouldn't say I'd ruin the experience, I have fun when I get there. Although my brother like to elbow me or punch me if I scream, or make any noises for that matter, and he yells at me if I run ahead to try and get a good spot in a line. And the rides I usually like to go to are Accelerator, Fire Spotter, I'm a sucker for those Zamperla balloon races, and I usually like wildfire because it usually always has the shortest line. But I believe we may just go in the cave tomorrow if it's too hot, and also my brother and his lady friend may not even be interested in the rides.

If you're going to relocate WW, move it out by SDC

YES! I could go without S.D.C, close S.D.C, put White Water in it's place, reopen Celebration City! PERFECT! I'd rather have a fun, 50's/60's theme park than a mediocre hillbilly park.

Wow! You are in a vast minority with that opinion! SDC is a fantastic park with a fantastic theme, top notch food, exceptional hospitality, first class rides, and a rich history! The only things I miss about CC is Ozcat, which Outlaw Run is a far superior coaster, and the laser show on the rock wall. SDC, DW, and HW are three of the best parks in the Country.

Oh please, the food is over priced, like everything else at that wretched park, super greasy and doesn't taste as good as everybody says it is, and it gives me hard core Montezuma's revenge. And the only hospitality I've gotten is a ride open yelling at kids to stop running from the exit back to the entrance even though the park was dead and there was nobody else in line and wouldn't just let us stay on the ride. And the only rides that I think are first class are MAYBE Outlaw Run, though it's not as good as all the hype it gets, and Firefall, which of course is a transplant from Celebration City. And Wildfire is pretty fun. But all the flats are run on terrible cycles where the run at full speed for about ten seconds. And by rich history I see a mining town turned into a small cave attraction turn Herschend, over priced, over rated, money drain on your wallet. And the shows aren't even that good. Far below laser shows and sea lion shows.

Well, that's your opinion. An absolutely ridiculous one, but yours none the less. I'm just going to agree to disagree and continue loving SDC and everything it offers.

Anyways...

Just got back from my first visit of the season! A few notes:

-Fireman's Landing is an awesome replacement for Geyser Gulch. Not only is the play area a huge upgrade, you now have some cool flats and excellent theming as well. Firefall was fun (the airtime seemed a bit underwhelming compared to Liberty Launch @ HW but it was still a decent ride) and it seemed to be very popular.

-Outlaw Run continues to be the best coaster ever. Still the smoothest wooden coaster out there, with the some of the most extreme elements I've ever experienced. The one thing I noticed was a terrible jolt at the bottom of the first drop that was only noticeable in the back. Other than that, OR was as great as always. Got 5 rides in 30 mins today, including 2 front row rides.

-Powder Keg was fun in the front but I still like the back better.

-Flooded Mine seems to have rumors floating around about its demise... I don't know, I read about some boats being taken off, but that doesn't hint at anything to me- the boats were still coming in one after another, so I don't think the capacity's been reduced. It still seems popular with guests, and I don't think it is in a location that really needs any huge addition.

-Gosh I love this park. I'm so glad it's a mere 4 hours from me, I can't wait for Christmas.

Well I'm just an hour, what park are you closest to?

SFSTL is about 30 mins. I wish SDC and it would switch spots, though.

Me too. I'd take Screaming Eagle over Outlaw Run any day. Although the only thing keeping me going to S.D.C is Accelerator/Firefall.

Lol okay let's switch houses then

13 year old. Ok that explains the attitude. Probably should have led with that.

Now I know how to handle your posts.

Having worked with middle school kids I know from experience that "everything sucks" and how you're all experts at "what is cool" -- I'll just take your posts with a grain of salt, roll my eyes and move on

And judging by your list of places you've been - no you've not been anywhere.

SDC is one of the best parks in the nation. One day you'll realize this when you actually do some real traveling.

Oh. And I'm going to S.D.C tomorrow, I need a thrill fix and I feel like riding Accelerator.

Don't even waste you time going to SDC, it is an over rated and over priced wasteland. The only ride that is sort of OK is Outlaw Run. So says a troll on Theme Park Review.

Don't forget the S&S Shot Tower from the far superior Celebration City that was a few miles away

Well my Nana and Papa may take me to K.K as they saw Stormchaser on the news and thought they'd take me there. But I don't think my ninth grade classmates would find my view cool as I love carousel and wrought iron fences and flower beds and fountains. And my dad may take me to Dollywod for Lightning Rod.

I'm glad S.D.C got the double shot rather than a space shot, I love double shots while I find space shots less powerful and maybe even tame.

Its just my opinion, and S.D.C is overpriced, my season pass cost ninety dollars for White Water and S.D.C, and a day pass for each park is sixty dollars for each park individually. At Adventureland for the water park and amusement park it was just forty.

The CC/SDC S&S tower is one of the tamest in the country. Are you sure you're not a troll? No one can be this misguided on opinions.

REALLY! Many other people other than me have said it's the second best double shot with Indiana Beach's being the best one. And no, I'm not a troll, I'm just stating my opinion like what everybody does on theme park review, that's why I joined three or four weeks ago, to tell people my opinion and see what theirs are. So far people have been calling my opinions terrible. But for now, I'm going to sleep as it's past midnight where I am.

Your opinions are minority opinions amongst people who have been to Silver Dollar City. And now you are just making silly comparisons. You say SDC is overpriced, yet $90 for a season pass sounds like a great deal to me, so there are ways to make the park more cost efficient.

Now you are comparing Adventureland to SDC, yes Adventureland is a better deal for a day tripper that wants rides and a water park, but their season pass is $130. Who is overpriced now?

I'm just curious what rides at Adventureland are superior to what I consider the best rides at SDC.

Outlaw Run, Powder Keg, Wildfire

Also, let me know where the great food is at Adventureland. And the entertainment options at Adventureland. For the record I like Adventureland but there is a reason why the single day entrance price is much lower then SDC's.

No, please, make it stop. I beg of you. I can't take it anymore. Before long Adventureland will have far superior chicken fingers(SDC hand breads them, pretty sure Adventureland just puts there hand in a pre-cooked bag Source) and that the Underground is a much better ride than Fire in the Hole ever thought about being.

And I think we can all benefit from not responding to him any further if he is going to continue with his SDC SUX1!!! posts. Let the moderators handle that.

Oh please, my parents would never give up the farm, and it'd be hard to move our seven dogs, fifteen cats, four horses, and the guineas (birds). But if I could it'd switch with you.

With Adventureland, you're also getting free parking with the season pass, and ten bucks may not seem like much when at S.D.C you just get discounted parking, and for the average coaster enthusiast traveling from afar, the one to two days are also well cheaper, forty bucks one day, twenty five the next. And children three and under are free so I still find Adventureland the better deal considering I'll only go there about once every two to three years. And personally, I liked the food at Adventureland, I went to the cool barbecue place near the end of the boulevard section of the park. And later when my Papa got Coffee at the same place we also got fresh donuts . And for the shows, I'm pretty sure there are some shows at that one building on main street that has the theater marquee but we didn't really want to see the shows as I wanted to ride all the flats, and I think there's a music show at the one Coke pavilion with that stage that rises out of the ground like at Disney. I heard music coming from over there while I was on the log ride but I paid no attention to it. And there's a pretty good circus at the back of the park.

I don't care how they are made, on my visit to Adventureland, I had barbecue while my Papa had chicken fingers, I tried one and they taste like all chicken fingers, even the ones at S.D.C that I've eaten SOOOO many times over the years. And although I do think Fire in the Hole is better for the coaster lovers than the Underground, but I still love the cheesy dark ride elements on the Underground more and that ULTRA cheesy animatronic in the queue center.

What's sux? Anyway, I know I'm not going to convince anybody, I knew that when I started on theme park review, but until I feel like the money I spend at that park is worth it, I will always hate S.D.C. The only parts I like are the Cave, and Fireman's Landing. That was probably the most exciting addition to me in all the parks history. As one of my first memory rides was going back in and they were finally getting a drop tower and it also happened to by C.C's. And the one of the first memory rides was Fire Spotter, the 1985 Zamperla Balloon Race, when I was little and my mom and dad carried me around in the backpack at amusement parks (they would leave my upper body sticking out) I have a few small memories, one was going past them at their old location where the river battle is today, and I was crying because there were loud noises coming from it and also I could hear geyser gulch's horns and it scared me.

Sorry, but parking at SDC is free for everyone, season pass or single day. You only pay for parking if you want to park close to the gate. Seriously you need to know what you are talking about before you talk.

I've been all over the world and been to dozens of theme parks yet I was born and raised in Springfield about 30 miles north of SDC and have been going every year since before Thunderation was even open, and have no complaints. I used to bitch about the price, too, before I had travelled and have come to find out: what theme park is cheap? You think SDC is a rip off? Disneyis a rip off. An $80 season pass is a sweet deal for someone who only travels 20 mins to the park. Now thanks to Outlaw Run if I'm bored and need to kill a few hours I'll drive down there with a few friends who also have passed and just ride Outlaw Run a few times. Definitely have received my $80 bucks worth, as opposed to paying to $5 to ride like some parks do. And I say for anyone that has any complaints about Steal Your Dollar City as we like to call it around here, y'all need to get your dreary asses on Outlaw Run a few times and lighten up. But be careful, for the best 30 seconds of your life that whore'll steal all your money, that barrel roll will make your wallet grow wings and fly away into the wilderness.

Thanks for verifying that Chad, I'm visiting on Friday and I remembered free parking from my last visit and there appeared to still free parking when I looked at the website.

I should know better than to put credence an unproven entity when they post on the internet.
