There like is NO ampetheatre from Atlanta to Tampa! HAHA! But the picture I saw, made it look pretty big... But what happend to the log ride that we were supposed to get last year? Hmm.... Orlando Sentinel The owner of Cypress Gardens Adventure Park today announced a number of new attractions, including new rides for small children and construction of a long-awaited $5 million wooden roller coaster. Owner Kent Buescher also said that the park will admit for free the holders of a season pass to any other theme park in the United States. This will be in effect from Friday through Dec. 24. Buescher said installation of the famed Starliner roller coaster, purchased from a park in Panama City, will begin almost immediately. It will be open in late May. And a new attraction for the park's youngest guests is on the way. Called Bugsville, it will feature 13 rides and interactive features in a four-story building. In September, the park filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in Georgia federal court, facing $17 million in unpaid claims from $25 million in hurricane damages the park suffered in 2004. Buescher vowed the bankruptcy petition would not affect operations or season pass holders. He said today there have been no new developments on this issue. The bankruptcy paperwork shows more than $50 million in debts, but the filing allowed the park to borrow $13 million more to get through the short-term until the insurance issue is settled, he said. Fans of the park have been loyal. Attendance over the summer was up 16.5 percent from 2005 and park officials expect it to hit 1.3 million this year. Buescher, who spent $7 million on Cypress Gardens and another $5 million in improvements before the 2004 hurricanes, owns a similar park in Valdosta, Georgia that went from a small petting zoo with 100,000 visitors annually when he bought it to an attraction with 1.5 million people passing through last year. Its cool that they continue to add stuff for the kids, but isn't going to make much of an impact with big ole Disney down the street (and by street I mean many miles away). If the park wants to survive in themeparkville, they need to attract people with more than kiddie rides and native gardens. Someone please send Kent an Intamin catalog, getting something no one else in Florida has is one of the best ways to draw the peeps in. An old mediocre woodie that didn't attract anyone where it was before certainly isn't going to save this place. Coming next season - "If you hold a drivers license or even a piece of paper shaped like a drivers license...you get in FREE!" Kent Buescher, President/CEO, announced plans today for new capital investment in 2007, including the rebuilding and opening of the historic Starliner roller coaster, as well as the addition of an all-new children’s area, “Bugsville.” Season pass options also have a new look for 2007, as free parking is now included in the Passport 2007. Buescher also announced a pass exchange program, in which passholders from other parks can experience Cypress Gardens at no charge. Between now and December 24th, 2006, guests can present any other theme park’s valid 2006 pass and receive free admission to Cypress Gardens. And just like the season pass; guests can take advantage of the opportunity as many times as they want. They will also receive a $10 discount off any of the 2007 Passport options. Coaster enthusiasts will be able to take their first ride on an old favorite next summer, as the historic Starliner will change the skyline of Cypress Gardens as it is carefully rebuilt. The classic wooden coaster was the first of its kind in Florida when it was built in 1963 at Panama City Beach’s Miracle Strip Amusement Park. Cypress Gardens acquired the ride when the park closed late in 2004. Once built and reopened, it will be one of 11 remaining John Allen coasters in operation. Allen has been long-considered the grandfather of coaster design and created the now-classic “out and back” coaster. This particular design is renowned for its negative g-forces and “lift,” that feeling of coming out of your seat while riding along its 2,640 feet of hills, bunny hops and turns. Starliner will be the park’s 6th roller coaster. Young guests will soon have place to call their own with the addition of “Bugsville,” a children’s area comprised of rides, a special theater and eventually, a large interactive play structure. The first phase will be completed in 2007 and will include 13 rides. Theming will be done from a bug’s point of view, thus making everyone feel small and “bug-like” as they travel through. Of course, “Bugsville” wouldn’t be complete without some critters and the park will introduce Buzzby, Lady B and Whiff to the guests. The park’s bugs are stars, as well, and a new show “A Bugsville Adventure” will take the stage in the spring as part of the new area. Another stage will be lighting up throughout the year as the Star Haven Amphitheater welcomes another diverse line-up of artists.
