Ride You Felt Was Unsafe?

Recommended Posts

Those Pole Position clones at the carnivals always feel unsafe. I rode this back in June 2014 at the Alameda County Fair, along with a Zillerator coaster. That one was actually quite fun.

Any ride at a carnival.

Have to agree with the Post above...my first ride on X (long before it was reborn as X2) was with my 7 or 8 year old and I was convinced more than once that I was coming out so I was terrified that he was coming out for sure...the on-ride photo was so priceless that we bought it...I think it started my love affair with the ride that day...

The Chipmunk at Lakeside Amusement Park freaked me out but mostly in a good way. It's super old, shaky and looks like it was made from a glorified Erector Set. Besides it's sketchy look - it gives you an awesome out of control feeling for such a small ride.

When I was about 7, the Skymaster made its first appearance at the annual Vancouver PNE. The height requirement was 48 inches (the stick was green and white, so I was scared to eat half-mint Oreos after). It uses OTSR with some weird buckle as well, I don't remember exactly. My friend's buckle came undone, so we were both screaming hysterically. Obviously we were fine, but Skymasters still scare me. I rode it again a couple years later and didn't enjoy it at all, so I'm not missing out.

The altitude of the Pirate at Vancouver's Playland was recently lowered by 3 feet to "make room for the AtmosFEAR [starFlyer]". When I was a kid riding it in the last row, it was dangerous. There was airtime and the bar didn't even come close to me. The seat is just one long bench. Of course, I just thought it was awesome (and it always gave me a "ball tickle", coined by someone yelling "MY BALLS ARE TICKLING" on that ride). So, that's probably another reason for the adjustment.

Looking back on it now, I should have noticed something was up with Vancouver Playland's Wild Mouse. As someone else said in this thread, they had to use sandbags for the cars to complete the circuit. I believe there was also something about leaning forward on the way up. And it wouldn't be complete without getting rained on by debris if you stood under the track while in the queue. It was shut down in 2007 for "high maintenance costs" (another suspect reason), thankfully.

The Wooden Roller Coaster at Vancouver Playland. Again, the restraints just aren't appropriate for young children (trust me, I was there). I'm probably gonna get slack for this, but I was really, legitimately fearful of being flung from the seat.

The Ring of Fire at a local travelling carnival. I couldn't uncurl my hands after that, they just automatically recoiled every time I tried. I was about 7, again. Two boys loaded behind me and complained that they would have to hear a little girl scream the whole time. I actually never scream on rides, simply because I don't feel the need to, so I had the last laugh. They probably lost their voices after that. I'm not making fun though, I do feel really bad for them. We were all way too young to be on that ride.

While I know that the Windseekers are totally safe, they always terrify me a little bit. I'm normally okay with heights (I have no issues with TTD, Millennium Force, Lex Luthor, Superman, etc.), but spinning around 300 feet in the air with pretty much nothing around you is slightly uncomfortable.

And on a much smaller scale, any Wave Swinger/chair swing ride. It's not very high off the ground, but come on, my body is being supported by playground chains!

I don't know how I'd survive on a tradition Six Flags-esque star flyer!

Same here, carnivalS are always sketchy. I Don't really have a home park close to me though, so I'm always up to take a little risk whenever the carnies roll into town and set up shop! Plus, if the show owns one, who can turn down a ride on a zipper? Looks super run down, but one of the best flats I've done
