tngdiablo
That is a little strange. I gave blood last year and had the unfortunate pleasure of seeing a kid in the cot next to mine (this was before they started drawing blood from me) all of a sudden curl up into a ball and start to turn blue. He tried to take the needle out himself, which would've been real bad. Luckily, for him at least, I was able to get a nurse's attention who quickly came over and helped him out. He put a bunch of paper towels on the spot where the needle was and when he took them off shortly thereafter, they were completely soaked in blood. I was pretty freaked out by that but somehow I still managed to let them stick me and take blood. Afterwards though, I sat down to eat some Oreos and drink juice but was feeling pretty bad. I told one of the attendants that I wanted to lie down and as soon as I got up, my legs were feeling pretty weak and I started to get tunnel vision. I somehow made it over to the cot and laid down. Took about a half hour before I felt I was ready to get up and go back to class. Oh, also, don't go playing 90 minute soccer games in 95 degree weather and try running all out. You won't feel well. D'oh!
coasterdude5
We had a blood drive at our school yesterday. I'm too young but I got to help out because of Student Council. Alot of the girls weren't able to donate because their iron wasn't high enough.

Twister II
Our teachers at school give blood. All that do have scars. No thanks.
SharkTums
You don't get scars from giving blood unless the person taking the blood is some sort of axe murderer. Perhaps your teachers have scars because they go home at night and cut themselves after having to deal with a roomful of kids???

Well it is possible to break the blood clot if you over exert yourself shortly afterwards. If you manage to do that you'll get a massive bruise like the length of your arm. I don't give blood nearly enough. Especially considering that my mother works for Canadian Blood Services.
jynx242
I give blood regularly and am a little confused by the "scar" comment. I guess I have little (smaller than a pin head) marks in the crook of my arm - but they aren't really noticable and are not like track marks. I would be worried about a Red Cross phlebotomist (I know I spelled that wrong) that would leave any kind of scar. david
CoasterExpert13
When in high school, we had blood drives every 1st of the month...I gave usually....though I can never really get used to the needle and the pain it brings for the 1st 30 secs. Then also..everytime I give blood, they always seem to have a hard time finding a vein in the right arm. Which sucks, because then they'll resort to using my left arm in which the needle seems to hurt even moreso than that of the right arm. Now I try to give when I have freetime, which seems less and less these days.
Calvin
I gave blood once, but I didn't like the weird empty feeling afterwards so I didn't do it again.
hhnLover17
I gave blood at my school and it really wasn't all that bad. As a person who hates shots I just has to remember someone needed my blood. And as a plus I learned my blood type is O+ on the fun little card they send you. ebl
I've been donating blood since about 1989. Not long ago, I gave my 67th pint. However, I think I'm going to stop for awhile---at least until I can get my health back up to where it should be. Just before going to Florida early last month, I gave a pint and I was tired as all hell the first couple of days there. My weight has dropped below 130 (I'm 5'8"), and I've been anemic a few times. Now that I'm between jobs, hopefully I can get in and get a checkup. For those of you who do give blood, you don't realize what a service you provide. You help keep the blood banks full, which assures blood for emergency rooms and vital operations. Keep on doing what you do; for those of you who don't give blood, consider doing it. GMAN962
I know it's a good thing to do, but whenever I get a shot, or give blood, etc., I start feeling really sick and have a really bad reaction. I don't like giving blood for that reason. -Mike
pete4winds
For those of you who do give blood, you don't realize what a service you provide. Actually there are those of us that donate blood regularly that actually DO know...that's why we do it. And I agree. Those that don't should absolutely consider it if they are medically able to donate...I've also donated platelets at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, and I'm a registered donor on the National Bone Marrow Registry. Well worth the time and effort it takes to be a donor.
jynx242
I will agree! Although it is not fun, per se, it is really important. I sold plasma in college, and that actually benefits people as well. Now, I just donate regularly. A little discomfort on my part is nothing compared to the life that my blood might save. david
