Universal Studios Hollywood (USH) Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

Why was USH the place he decided was best to off himself? One of the strangest stories I've read. I suppose it's a good thing he only took his own life. It could have been much worse.

Thoughts go out to his family

If you want to commit suicide, do it in your house or something. (Edit: Not trying to "condone" suicide. Things need to be done to help people who are going through depression. But choosing to do it in the most public way possible is just plain selfish). Don't do it in front of families at an amusement park. He's just scarred kids for life, and like others have mentioned, this will definitely change how security is handled. Suicide is a problem, and I feel bad for those with issues with it, but doing it at an amusement park screams "I wanna make the headlines!"

Thoughts go out to all the witnesses (especially the little ones) and his family. Even if I totally disagree with his method, it's still a tragedy.

Yes, how thoughtless of a emotionally disturbed and depressed human being to act in such a selfish way. The nerve of this guy. Sheesh!

I hope I didn't come off as insensitive in that last post. Suicide is a serious topic and I don't feel comfortable discussing it anymore. Sorry if I offended anybody, that wasn't my intention.

I got what you meant. But people who are in a place where they want to commit suicide don't have the mental capacity to think about being considerate to others--a lot of times these people have a lotttt of issues and they're so mentally/emotionally disturbed they don't comprehend that type of thing. It's very sad, and the glamorization of suicide in this society is a problem.

As far as why, I heard that some source who was there said he had just gotten into a heated argument with his girlfriend right before the incident. What I dont get is why he brought the gun in the first place--there's obviously more to the story. But, as was discussed, these people in this unfortunate situation have so much going on in their minds that rationale and motive can be hard to identify.

^I would say that even though the Simpsons is past its prime, it's still very exciting to see it all brought to life. You can't help but geek out a little if you are a Simpsons fan.

Plus the food and beer are actually good, something else USH really needed.

What if it was Magic Mountain that was installing The SImpsons? Would you be as accepting of a park transforming an entire section of it's park into an area based on an 'over the hill' show? Something tells me you wouldn't be quite as forgiving.

Universal is interesting as they struck fairly quickly with Despicable Me, but arrived (especially in CA) pretty late to the party with The Simpsons and Harry Potter.

^If SFMM were to execute it as well as USH has, I would be THRILLED. Twisted Colossus+real life Springfield would be awesome!!! They failed miserably with Thomas the Tank engine, but have kept the new DC area looking decent---so I would be skeptical, but still excited to see Springfield brought to life.

I also never said the Simpsons was over the hill. Most everyone would agree that the show has gone past its prime of the earlier seasons (ending around season 10 depending on who you ask), but I actually still enjoy the show. In fact, I personally think the movie reinvigorated the writers and the quality has gotten better since the movie came out.

Even is the Simpsons is well past its Prime a 26 year run means it has not just one generation of fans, but two generations. Even as its first run media exposure fades, it will still have a substantial fan base and relatable characters for another 20 years, minimum.

Would it have made more sense to add Springfield 10 years ago? Probably, but that doesn't mean adding it know is a bad idea.

In other words, "Don't have a cow man"

http://www.usatoday.com/story/life/movies/2015/04/28/fast--furious-supercharged-universal-studios/26514595/

Furious 7 is still dominating the box office. Fast & Furious 8 is officially in the works.

But the next chapter of the Fast & Furious franchise hits Universal Studios Hollywood on June 25 with the opening of the Fast & Furious -- Supercharged attraction.

Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson and Luke Evans return in the hydraulic motion-based thrill ride which tells an original Furious story along with hyper-realistic special effects.

In this exclusive clip showing the behind-the-scenes creation, Diesel talks about being "immortalized" in the attraction.

"What we did here today, we have never done before," DIesel says. "This is new territory for us, although we have been living in these characters for 15 years."

Evans, who is villain Owen Shaw, adds that Furious was a logical extension to make the attraction which will now serve as the finale to Universal's famed studio tour.

"I'm amazed it hasn't been made into a theme park ride earlier than it has," says Evans. "When you watch the movies, you feel this power, speed and adrenaline."

Supercharged features an 120 mile-per-hour car chase through Los Angeles with 3D-HD imagery projected onto the world's longest 360-degree screen -- spanning nearly 400 feet in length in a newly constructed 65,000-square-foot structure on the Universal backlot.

As Johnson, in full Hobbs attire, says in the clip after shooting scenes for the ride: "I can honestly say in my blood, heart and bones, that this ride is exactly that -- a thrill ride."

"To be immortalized in a ride is a very cool thing," Johnson adds. "Who am I kidding? It's cool."

TPR was invited to the Grand Opening of Springfield at Universal Studios Hollywood! Springfield brings lot of new dining options to the park including Bumblebee Man's Taco Truck, Cletus' Chicken Shack, Duff Brewery, Krusty Burger, Lard Lad Donuts, Luigi's Moe's Tavern, Phineas Q. Butterfat's Ice Cream Parlour and Suds McDuff Hot Dog Stand. Got a chance to sample most of them last night and they're all excellent! Definitely a great addition to the park.

Check out the photos from last night:

Well this is bad timing... seems like The Simpsons will not be around for much longer..'

As we reported earlier this month, Fox has renewed The Simpsons for another two seasons, though some other outlets were quick to point out that there was supposedly a lone holdout in the voice cast. The International Business Times reported that the holdout was in fact Harry Shearer, who they claim was looking for a bigger piece of the merchandising gold mine. Well, Shearer just tweeted the following semi-cryptic messages that would appear to mean he’s off the show: “from James L. Brooks lawyer: ‘show will go on, Harry will not be part of it, wish him the best’ (1/2)” and “This because I wanted what we’ve always had: the freedom to do other work. Of course, I wish him the very best. (2/2)” If it’s true, it would be a pretty stunning blow to the show’s long-running voice cast, since Shearer provides the voices for Ned Flanders, Mr. Burns, Smithers, Skinner, and many, many more.

He wasn't even part of the ride. Losing his characters is definitely a blow, but the Simpsons have so many characters that don't get enough time on the show there is a chance this could be a good thing as the show winds down!

I've only been to USH once several years ago so I don't remember much about the layout of the park or where the Springfield expansion is but for some reason the Hollywood version looks a lot more immersive and impressive than the Florida Version. Looks great, wish I liked the ride a little bit more, but the new area surround it is awesome.

It's footprint is roughly where Doc Browns chicken, Cantina (and it's patio), and the Flinstones Carnival games were. The other side just repurposed Ben & Jerrys and Louie's pizza.

Except for their Halloween Horror Nights, I've never been much of a fan of USH, which I've always thought to be small and lack attractions you'd want to experience more than once a year. But I have to say, this new area looks fantastic! I hope the park can continue to grow and improve in the years to come, and I'm certainly excited for Harry Potter.
