Universal Studios Hollywood (USH) Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

High Roller has gone from $45 to $10 to $25 to multiple package deals to who the heck knows what anymore. The pricing for the damn wheel even changes depending on what property you purchase a ticket at. They lost a lot of potential revenue because it turned customers away to the multitude of other entertainment options in this city.

The amount of inaccuracy in this is mind boggling...

So, to be clear, they actually lowered the price from the current standard ticket price on low-attendance days, correct? Down from $95 to $80? That sounds like a win to me, from a customer perspective. If we were able to be flexible, we would go out of our way to schedule our trip around the cheaper days, for sure.

What's ironic is that you're paying higher prices for more crowded days, which means your paying more money to wait in bigger lines.

Universal is owned by Comcast. Not surprised at all by this.

"Sorry, to see this ride in 3D you have to have to be on a two-year contract with a $10 monthly glasses fee."

$10 would just be the monthy 3D technology fee. You'll also need to pay $10 for each eye for which you want to be able to see the ride in 3D. Or if you don't care to see the whole ride in 3D, even though you're also paying $10 a month for said 3D technology, you can pay $3 per eye and only see part of the ride in 3D.

They are a Hospitality company. Hospitality companies have been doing this for years. I'm surprised the all year round parks have not done this before. What better way to move demand from one part of the week to another. From one part of the year to another. This is why I fly mid week and go on vacation when kids are in school. It is cheeper and less crowded. All parks should do this.

Universal Studios Hollywood just became the first major park in North America to implement dynamic pricing on single day tickets.
Didn't Sea World offer dynamic pricing this fall?

Six Flags did as well. For tickets and for THE FLASH PASS.

Since it has been introduced at Six Flags, everyone I've talked to (being dozens of people) understood it and actually liked it. It encouraged a lot of people to visit during the week when possible. However, with Six Flags parks, it is only online. With saying that USH is the "first major park in North America" to go this route, I could see it as semi-fair if Universal uses the same pricing strategy at the gate, which I believe they probably will.

And as other people have explained, it's just like buying tickets to sporting events and hotels. I'm glad to see USH take this route, as it will hopefully decrease a bit of the craziness coming up with the opening of Potter.

Went to the park for the first time in 2 years to try the Harry Potter rides before it gets really crowded... and WOW!!! I was blown away at the quality of the area (on par with Disney's best theming, which is probably Cars Land). The butterbeer was amazing. The coaster was an okay family coaster.

Forbidden Journey was absolutely INCREDIBLE. I think it may have the best queue of any ride, ever. It's a really immersive ride. USH better be ready to deal with record crowds! 2019 Diagon Alley anyone?

I was able to attend the first soft opening of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Hollywood yesterday! The land is fantastic! highly detailed and immersive. The only negative on the entire land is the amount of outside intrusion on the land. Universal did not fully theme the Forbidden Journey Show building and it is very visible in many areas of the land. Also parts of Citywalk can be easily seen as well.

The Forbidden Journey was OUTSTANDING! BY FAR the best dark ride in SoCal, nothing comes close! The use of 3D screens, physical sets, and animatronics made this the most impressive and immersive ride I have ever experienced! By the end of the day, I had gotten 7 rides on it thanks to the awesome single rider line which was a walk-on most of the day! Cannot wait to go back and ride this!

Flight of the Hippogriff was a fun little family coaster by Mack Rides!

Overall great day, cannot wait to go back!

Congrats to Universal Studios Hollywood on nearly 5 years of planning and construction. This land is a game changer for this park. The park will never be the same again!

Once you are seated with restraints down and locked, a Team Member will hand you your 3D glasses. The 3D Glasses are exactly the same as the ones used on Despicable Me and Transformers.

WARNING! this ride IS NOT friendly to larger guests! I saw a lot of people taking the walk of shame. Make sure you use the test seat if in doubt!

NEW CREDIT! Flight of the Hippogriff!

IMG_9836.thumb.JPG.5d9ba934bdfd94fe2db781d7b2a00098.JPG

Flight of the Hippogriff is a Mack (not Vekoma) family coaster. I thought it was a fun little ride that gave a better ride than the Vekoma Rollerskaters!

IMG_9850.thumb.JPG.87fcb50031f58faf8230b3759f5fc779.JPG

Exactly what this park needed. A family coaster with a low hight requirement! I think it was 38-48 inches to ride with a companion and 48 inches to ride alone.
