Universal Studios Hollywood (USH) Discussion Thread

Also, in regards to the property limits, they own a crap load of land, space isn't an issue.

Again, USH is a studio first, theme park second. The expansion of Harry Potter is happening on land that was once used as a non-studio space (the Gibson theatre). They won't move into their open space because they use all of the available room for filming. Yeah, they have the land but they chose to dedicate it to the more lucrative business.

Filming multiple movies from multiple studios (they rent to Disney, Warner, Paramount, Fox, etc) is MUCH more profitable than building a new ride or two.

The theme park business is the second most profitable division of the company (behind the cable division), and Comcast has made it very clear they intend to keep investing in the parks, so I would never say never...

This.

Two years ago, if someone said that HHN would have not one, but two mazes and a scare zone on New York street, you would have been called crazy.

Prioritys are changing at USH.

Universal actually re-purposed one of their sound stages as a strictly green screen stage:

Quick update…though USH has yet to announce anything officially, I think it is safe to say carnival games are growing in Simpsons Plaza...

Lots of walls down at USH! And...vertical construction at Harry Potter!

...and for all you construction/harry potter geeks out there...you can see some steel up in the back of this photo (sorry it's so far away, the tram was already closed when I took it from the Bridge)

It all looks really really good! Can't wait for the games to open. Also, I really wish they would bring back that crepe place they used to have near/at (?) the VIP dining. It was the highlight of my trip when I was younger.

There's already a Crepe place at CityWalk. They may not see that as a necessity considering that. Speaking of which, I've never eaten at the crepe place at CityWalk! That's pretty shameful considering how much I go to USH. I should fix that next time I go.

I haven't been to USH since the semester started for me but will once DM opens up. The new games look very nice and so does SSFL! I'm looking forward to seeing them in action as well as Springfield.

Something else to throw out there: I've heard that there should be some soft opens for DM:MM in the next week or two.

I like how they've rethemed the games in Hollywood and Florida. I don't play them myself, but the "generic" games always looked a bit tacky at theme parks.

^ I agree. At least they don't do anything to ruin the park atmosphere like what those games tend to do. Excited to see vertical construction start. When is the expected opening for Hollywood's Potter Land?

^2016.

^^I don't know where you have heard that, but I wouldn't believe anything until we at least hear rumblings of when an employee preview is scheduled...

Does anyone know when the Simpson’s themed restaurant's will open?

Is it really 2015 or am I reading screamscape wrong?

With a new Simpson’s themed restaurant expansion rumored to be announced soon as the replacement for the now demolished Doc’s fried chicken site, it would make sense to make Energon vanish now, only to bring it back in Flaming Moe form in 2015. By a similar notion, note that Energon was never sold in the Florida park, as their Transformers ride and Simpson’s area both opened together in Summer 2013.

Grabbed a few pictures this afternoon…the building is growing very fast! And Super Silly Fun Land is getting its archway installed. Looks really good!

Great pics! The Simpson's area is looking great with the location of those games, and a huge improvement over their prior theme. Wasn't it Flintstones for the theme of those games for the longest time? Despicable Me does look great, and certainly blends in better with the surrounding area quite a bit more than the old Terminator attraction.
