Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler from Black Sabbath, the celebrated, multi-platinum rock band that pioneered the heavy metal genre with their dark and doom-laden sounds, fused with lyrical themes of the occult, addiction, war and nuclear apocalypse, will be immortalized in an all-original, terrifying 3D maze, “Black Sabbath: 13 3D,” at Universal Studios Hollywood’s premier Halloween Horror Nights event, beginning September 20, 2013.

The new maze, based on the darkest lyrics from Black Sabbath’s biggest hit songs and the only attraction at the horror event to incorporate 3D video, will also include scenes inspired by the legendary band’s recently released Billboard #1 album, “13.” A nightmarish landscape of doom will engulf guests as they enter “Black Sabbath: 13 3D” and traverse through horrifying graveyards, disturbing madhouses and bone-chilling battlefields.

“We were all really excited when Universal Studios Hollywood approached us about doing a 3D ‘Halloween Horror Nights’ maze based on our music,” said Black Sabbath’s Ozzy Osbourne. “I’ve seen the drawings of what it will look like when it’s finished and it looks amazing. I can’t wait to walk through it on opening night in September.”

I'm hoping for a performer that bites the head off a bat!

This maze should be cool...one of my all time favorite mazes was "the thrilling chilling world of Rob Zombie" based off "Hellbilly Deluxe." Hope this can live up to that!

^From what I understand, the Hollywood park did a better job with their Alice Cooper maze than Orlando (didn't work at all in Florida), so the Black Sabbath maze sounds promising.

Black Sabbath: The Maze doesn't really seem like a good fit for a horror nights attraction. I love love love Black Sabbath, but it would be really cool to go through...not scary! Just seems like a silly idea.

What if you have to bite off a bat's head before entering? That would make it a bit scarier.

^^USH has a history of making musician mazes work well: Rob Zombies album maze in 2000 was awesome, and the Alice Cooper mazes the past two years also managed to mix good scares with a backstory tied to his music. It sounds like this maze will be taking a "apocalyptic/anarchy/end of the world" theme based on the lyrics of "13."

Universal Studios Hollywood has sent us announcements of the next two scare zones and another house to join this year's Halloween Horror Nights lineup!

Universal Studios Hollywood’s premier Halloween event, “Halloween Horror Nights,” continues to unlock the terror that torments movie-goers with the announcement of two new original scare-zones: The Purge, based on Universal Pictures’ summer blockbuster and upcoming Blu-ray™ and DVD release, and Universal Studios Home Entertainment’s Blu-ray™ and Digital debut of Curse of Chucky, an all-new movie where Chucky returns to horrify viewers in the latest unrated chapter of the blood-soaked suspense saga. “Halloween Horror Nights” begins on Friday, September 20, 2013.

Designed to provoke an unrelenting sense of fear for “Halloween Horror Nights” guests, numerous scare-zones will be riddled throughout the event to consistently terrify and traumatize them at every unsuspecting twist and turn.

The provocative box-office blockbuster, The Purge, will come to life as “The Purge: Survive the Night.” As guests enter the theme park, they will be thrust into the depraved world of The Purge, a sordid tale in which all crime is declared legal and no one is safe for one single night; a story, in which all criminal activity, including murder, is legal for 12 hours. Ironically, the gates to “Halloween Horror Nights” swing open at 7:00 p.m. sharp; the same time havoc is reaped upon the citizens in The Purge.

“The Purge: Survive the Night” scare zone will push guests to the limits as they become engaged in the film’s most memorable scenes while trying to run for their lives.

Inspired by the upcoming Blu-ray™ and DVD release of Curse of Chucky, the eponymous scare-zone will bring the terrifying pint-size doll, possessed by the spirit of a notorious serial killer, to life. Having made special appearances at past “Halloween Horror Nights,” this is the first time the sinister doll has commanded his own scare-zone to shock and terrify guests for his amusement.

The Purge, a thought-provoking thriller from director and writer James DeMonaco (Assault on Precinct 13, The Negotiator) and producer Jason Blum (Paranormal Activity, Sinister), stars Ethan Hawke (Sinister, Insidious, Training Day) and Lena Headey (“Game of Thrones”) as a husband and wife engulfed in the madness of a lawless night, The Purge will be available on Blu-ray™ Combo Pack with DVD, Digital including UltraViolet™, and On Demand on October 8, 2013, from Universal Studios Home Entertainment.

Curse of Chucky, the newest installment of the chilling Child’s Play franchise, comes exclusively to Blu-ray™ and DVD on October 8, 2013, from Universal 1440 Entertainment, a production entity of Universal Studios Home Entertainment. Also available on Digital on September 24, 2013, Curse of Chucky reunites franchise creators Don Mancini and David Kirschner twenty-five years later, as the deadly legacy continues and Chucky resumes his disturbing reign of terror, delivering more of the blood-curdling scares and bone-chilling twists that have cemented his place as one of the world’s most legendary horror film icons.

“Halloween Horror Nights” 2013 at Universal Studios Hollywood brings together the sickest minds in horror to immerse guests in a living, breathing, three-dimensional world of terror, and offers a slate of unrivaled film production quality mazes, Scare Zones and “Terror Tram” experience – all uniquely themed to today’s most definitive horror properties. This year’s haunted attractions will also include: “The Walking Dead: No Safe Haven,” based on AMC’s Golden Globe-nominated, Emmy Award-winning TV show, “Evil Dead: Book of the Dead,” inspired by Sony Pictures Home Entertainment’s chilling remake of the cult classic, “Insidious: Into The Further,” based on the 2010 horror thriller “Insidious” and the upcoming sequel “Insidious: Chapter 2,” and “Black Sabbath 13 3D,” inspired by the darkest lyrics from the multi-platinum rock band’s 43-year history of Heavy Metal music.

Watch for announcement videos on Universal Studios Hollywood’s YouTube Channel. Additional mazes to be announced shortly. Updates on “Halloween Horror Nights” are available online at Halloween Horror Nights, on Facebook at: “Halloween Horror Nights – Hollywood,” on Instagram at @HorrorNights and Twitter at @HorrorNights as Creative Director John Murdy reveals a running chronicle of exclusive information. The addition of all-original monsters inspired by fan-generated character competitions marks the first time that horror fans have contributed to a haunted maze experience for “Halloween Horror Nights.” The winning creatures will exist in the twisted confines of the "Universal Monsters Remix: Resurrection" maze alongside classic Universal Monsters, entombed in a shroud of heavy bass sounds by acclaimed dubstep artist, Figure. "Halloween Horror Nights" at Universal Studios Hollywood begins Friday, September 20, 2013.

“The Universal Studios classic monster movies of the 1920s, ‘30s and ‘40s defined the horror genre and inspired generations of filmmakers,” said John Murdy, Creative Director, “Halloween Horror Nights.” “For ‘Halloween Horror Nights,’ we reimagined classic characters and placed them in a rave-like environment – a present day ‘Monster Mash.’ It proved to be a fan favorite last year, and in 2013 there will be some exciting new twists.”

In addition to the music of Figure, the maze will also include winning designs from Universal Studios Hollywood’s “Design a Character Contest” as well as SyFy’s “Face Off” – a reality competition exploring the world of special effects make-up artists. “Design a Character” winner Christopher Oosting’s imagining of “The Invisible Man” will join a futuristic Frankenstein and his bride, created by the winner of a “Future Frankenstein” episode of “Face Off,” airing August 20 on SyFy.

Set within the antechambers of an eerily gothic castle, the new “Universal Monsters Remix: Resurrection” maze will unleash a cast of legendary creatures including “Frankenstein” and his bride, “Dracula,” “The Wolf Man” and “The Mummy.” From deep within the stone fortress, accompanied by ominous strobe lighting effects, guests will traverse dark and dank arteries of rotting catacombs laced with horror-inspired music by Figure.

Also, here's the "Carthay Circle ripoff" everyone was complaining about...Only similar in that they are both towers with architecture from that era

I do miss the old insulting Chucky from past years. The Purge was not a very interesting movie visually, so that is kind of bland direction to go. Carthay 2.0 will look fine, but I always hope for new attraction or ride versus retail, if it is indeed retail.

By "everyone" do you mean a certain Disney fan site?

Great to see the Upper Lot get some place making.

If rumors are true, in a few months, the area from the Flintstones Carnival games to Simpsons Plaza will go under the knife and become USHs version of SpringField. USH is going to be construction wall city, a lot like DCA circa 2008-2012, very soon.

According to the Gibson Amphitheater website, September 6th is the final concert!

The tower looks pretty great, I love that style of architecture. Really looking forward to the future of USH and SoCal having another major destination for me. Right now Disney and USH are the only reasons for me to visit, I don't care much for the other parks.

Lol! Seems a bit dangerous to give SoCal peeps an area themed to the purge!!!

I was thinking the same thing! The GP can be pretty stupid at times. I'll take it any day over Klownz again.

HHN this years sounds like it will be really good. I'm hearing several rumors that the last codename (Pumpkin, for those following the Twitter) is going to be El Cucuy: The Mexican Boogieman.

The Walking Dead will also be the theme of this year's TERROR TRAM, but different from last year. Its more what happens OUTSIDE THE PRISON

That includes THE TOWN OF WOODBURY and that creepy WALKER PIT...mmmm...burned walkers....mmmmm

That's all John Murdy has said on the Terror Tram so far.
