Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

P. 2037: Siren’s Curse tilt coaster announced for 2025!

Recommended Posts

For those that love the Gold Dorms by Corkscrew.... Don't get too attached.

Has anyone ever liked any of the dorms that are actually out on the point? I've always heard horror stories. Not that the other dorms were that much better.

I liked Cedars personally. If you were rooming with friends it was great. You wouldn't have to worry about missing a bus or anything, just a short hop skip and a jump and you were in the park. Golds is time to go. Those dorms are over a hundred years old I believe. Its definitely their time to go, but sad to see a part of the park change after it avoided doing so for 100+ years.

As far as rides go, I think Dragster will have the shortest life expectancy of any of the modern coasters at cp. I can see rides like millennium and magnum outliving it. The next to go will be one of the old arrows, most likely CCMR.

Speaking of which, CCMR was supposed to be getting those left over trains from Gemini this year. Has anyone heard anything more about those plans?

Vekoma should make suspended coasters with the Arrow style trains in addition to the ones with floorless trains like many modern inverted coasters use. A new "family" suspended coaster with Arrow style trains made by Vekoma would be an ideal replacement for Iron Dragon. A replacement coaster for Corkscrew would be like a Superman: Ultimate Flight (SFDK) style coaster or a spinning coaster.

The ability to wake up, shower, and be at my ride all in 30 minutes or less was amazing, actually. Cedars might not be the most luxurious (then again, neither were Commons), but you can't beat the convenience. I'm glad I moved to Cedars when I worked there, actually.

^Yep.

Now, to get us back on topic, how about those Gatekeeper trains? I especially like the hypnotic, glowing red eyes. I like the looks of the Wingrider trains at other parks, too.

I noticed that too...the glowing eyes really jumped out at me I think it is a nice touch.

I stand corrected. When I first got there the year I worked at the park, I had the option of Commons or Cedars and everyone I knew told me to go for Commons. I had heard horror stories about Cedars being run down, having mice, the hot water going out and so on. I never actually knew anyone while I was out there that lived in them so I never went in. The stories could have been greatly exaggerated. As far as the bus goes, it was never and issue for me; but I was always up early so I had no problem catching it.

Haha probably not. I'm being facetious anyways.

Spent the summer of 93 in the dorms......and oh yeah if those walls could talk....LOL.

(convincing GP friends to make one more trek to the back of the park for a final ride on Maverick is like pulling teeth)

Glad I'm not alone.

As for Corkscrew and Iron Dragon...well for a nostlagia point I'd be kinda sad, especially corkscrew because of its history...but what can ya say?

That's progress, they are old, not very good or popular I'd imagine.

Hope Corkscrew stays just because of its rumble over the walkway though!

Gatekeeper complete! So stoked to go to CP this year!

At that time, the park isn't too busy yet, but it's still a Saturday so you can't really expect too many walk-ons. I would say you should go to the park, ride a few rides and see what the crowds are like. FastLane hardly ever sold out last year (except some Saturdays in July and Halloweekends) so you can buy it after enjoying the park a bit if need be.

Commons dorms would be your best choice, there is only 3 per room and it has A/C so it's some what bareable.

For food just bring a microwave and a mini fridge as that will help alot but your crew will go out most nights and there is/was a Subway in the employee rec and a Mcdonalds and a Dairy Queen a short walk away for other options.

Also, there's Stockade in the back of the park and the employee cafeteria located near the front. It's very, very cheap

PS, traincrossin, check this site out. It'll definitely help you a lot and answer any questions you have!
