In all honesty does it really matter? I mean this is the largest wing-rider yet and is offering a lot even if the ride is primarily heavy with the action in the first 3/4 of the ride. I mean there could not be a MCBR and be a two train coaster at the end of the day cutting the capacity. I'm just glad the end of the ride isn't like Adventure Express.

Without the MCBR, it would still be able to have 3 trains: one in the station, one on the lift hill and one actually in the ride layout. Or am I incorrect?

 

I mean it is possible in theory, but not many coasters do that, all of the other wing-riders, and most other coasters are the same in that if there is no MCBR, there is usually two trains that can operate at once. The only coaster that I know that goes against this is Corkscrew at Cedar Point.

^^Nope. A B&M coaster with 3 trains can only function smoothly with 5 blocks. All B&M coasters with 2 trains have 4 blocks, and the ones with 3 trains have 5 blocks. Millennium Force is an example of a 3 train coaster with 4 blocks, but that's different because all 3 trains move at the same time. You can't dispatch another train while there's a train in the circuit, and that's why Millennium's capacity is drastically lower than any B&M coaster.

 

The reason you can't have a train on the lift and a train in the circuit is because the lift will stop at the top to wait until the train before it has completely cleared the Main brake, which means it will be forced to park in the transfer block every single circuit, which isn't technically supposed to happen on a B&M coaster (bad operations aside); and it also means the lift will "set up," which means someone has to actually go out to the lift and push a "lift start" button to turn it back on.

What are you talking about? If Gatekeeper is anything like Adventure Express, it'll be awesome!

Shame the ride probably won't be quite as good as it looks. Because it looks awesome.

 

Well... sounds just perfect for Cedar Point

 

I know that was a cheap shot (and I'm saying it partly facetiously, as I can still have a good time at the Point...) In all reality, people will love it. People generally want to be blown away by a new impressive-looking ride. I still saw 10x more excitement from people getting off American Eagle (which has good and bad years.) X-Flight was popular here at Great America, but you can tell people were not blown away by it. It wasn't something the general public was big on re-riding. It's a nice fun ride, but in no way landmark or world class. (I understand some will disagree.)

i just hate it when people bash rides before they ride them, yet alone when they havent even opened. People bashed Maverick while under construction and it turned out to be one of the best rides around,. Wild Eagle is just a short 135 ft drop prototype and it is a really fun ride.

^ I agree, I know B&M's have been overall weak the last 6 years of so, but this is Cedar Point, CP has an excellent collection of coasters and that's not by some random coincidence. I don't think they would all of a sudden lower their standards and accept a mediocre ride experience , at least I hope not.

Exactly, Gatekeeper was being planned two years before it was announced, Cedar Point doesn't just throw coasters out there, they make sure it is a great coaster before they announce it, GateKeeper won't bluff.

No one is saying it will be a bad ride, just probably a less forceful one like most of the B&M coaster made in the last 10 years. Yet, there is no way to know that for sure, people are just drawing conclusions based on other coasters performances.

 

So, who knows..There isn't a way to tell until we ride.

I'm not sure why that matters...it's like that for pretty much every coaster built. Do you think B&M has a catalog of pre-engineered coasters to pick from and then a park decides to build it once they announce it? Every coaster is planned a year or two in advanced because the engineers need time to do what they do best. Not to mention with a company like B&M, I'm sure there's at least a year or two wait depending on how many coasters they are building each year.

Was planning my first trip to cp(finally)for the tuesday and wednesday after memorial day and was just wondering if any of you cp veterans know what the crowds usually look like that time of year. I will be staying at hotel breakers if that makes any difference.

^I'm pretty sure the crowds will be the same whether you stay at the Breakers, Castaway Bay or the Howard Johnson just off the causeway!

 

Seriously though, I would keep an eye on the events page on their website when springtime comes around. May and June during weekdays are usually the best times of the year to go unless there is some type of math and science week or physics week - then you might want splurge for the Fast Lane passes.

 

Regardless, if you plan for two full days at the park you should have no problem seeing and doing everything you want.

Crowds aren't usually bad at that time as all area kids are still in school. Of course in the evenings they may pick up a bit when us locals pop over for a few hours, but mostly I think you'll find they'll be fairly good. Make sure you bring a sweatshirt or light jacket as evenings can still be a little chilly that time of year... Unless we have another early spring again.
