Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

p. 2030 - Top Thrill 2 announced!

Recommended Posts

Today is the last day of daily operations, Dinosaurs Alive, and Witches Wheel. A lot to say goodbye to.

Glad I took a spin in WW last week. It was my first (and obviously now my last) ride on it. Wasn’t going to ride it, but heard it was it’s last year. Great ride! Hope a good attraction replaces it.

I agree, but it's hard to tell the disabilities. The group should be limited to the disabled person plus 1 if help is needed to get in and out of the train. I've seen groups of up to 12 suck up all the seats. That's not right! If more need to ride together, the disabled person waits until the family comes though the line and they are joined at that time. This is really getting out of control. It's not just Cedar Point either.

According to Cedar Point's policies, the disabled guest and only up to three other people can enter through the alternate entrance, the rest of their party has to wait in the regular queue, AND if they all want to ride together the disabled guest and their companions have to wait until the rest of the party is on the platform before entering at all. Also, the policy states that disabled guests' parties are given a specific return time to board in every circumstance. I would also assume that the disabled guest isn't allowed to ride three times in a row with different party members accompanying them, either.

Now, whether this stuff is actually strictly enforced or not, that's anyone's guess.

I noticed this during my visit to CP last week. A lot of families of 4 or 6 with perfectly able bodied and well behaved tweens had these passes as well and had no noticeable disabilities (maybe autism). These families (I only noticed two physically disabled rides (one with a cane, the other with crutches and a boot for his foot over a couple days) used them a lot on SV and TTD (when it was open) and several rows were blocked off for these disabled park visitors to ride. On Monday night when exiting the park after riding TTD past closing I noticed the four guys (one with a cane) that had used the disability pass on TTD for several rides earlier all shaking hands with the guy who had the cane and saying things like, "it was great meeting you...thanks again," then the guy with the cane went to his car in one of the disabled spots near the front and the other three continued to their car. Not sure if there was anything to this, but it reminded me of the WDW disability escort scandal a few years ago.

Anyway, CP was extremely crowded during my visits Mon & Tues last week. With MF and TTD down most of the day, the lines for SV and Maverick were 90 minutes + at times and were consistently over an hour. Both SV and Mav had 30 minutes + with FL+ on Monday. With numerous schools closed due to the heat, CP anticipated the crowds and were charging $98/$78 for FL+/FL on Tuesday. It was so hot in the park on Tuesday, that I visited CP Shores. I am normally not a water park kind of guy, but enjoyed the opportunity to cool off. I spent most of my time in the lazy river and wave pool.

I was disappointed that I only got one ride on MF Sunday night, with it being down Mon and Tues. I even stopped by Wednesday morning before heading home, just in case MF became operational but of course it didn't open until later Wednesday afternoon. Really enjoyed my rides on SV, I lost count of how many times I rode it between Sunday night and Wednesday morning. I found the very back seat to be a little more intense than the front, but overall I found SV gives great rides no matter where I sat. SV is definitely at the top of my list of favorite coasters. I found Valravin to be a typical dive coaster, enjoyable, but still prefer Griffon @ BGW. TTD is always a great ride when it is operating, and I think my eyelids have finally healed from my front seat ride Tuesday night.

Overall, I enjoyed my visit to CP, even though I only got one ride on MF. Hopefully, I will get back to CP before it closes for the season, so I can use the exit passes I acquired during my visit.

Was there any kind of farewell ceremony for Witches Wheel?

I don't think so. A thunderstorm came in around closing time, cutting things short.

Park was pretty packed yesterday. Getting in around 12:30 CPS lot was full. I luckily found a spot as someone was leaving.

Despite the hype I honestly feel like Steel Vengeance is (gasp) the least aggressively violent RMC I've ever been on aside from maybe Goliath and New Texas Giant. The transitions are all really fluid and flow well and it seems like it was designed for the masses more than the others (though it does this while delivering a massive assload of airtime).

It's an amazing ride because the elements are all awesome and it's easily my favorite RMC, but I feel like if Steel Vengeance is too much for you then something like Lightning Rod or even Storm Chaser (which is loaded with violent awkward bucking which Steel Vengeance has essentially none of) might literally kill you.

I really, absolutely, think its' the design of the restraints/trains tho. at least for me.

I mean, Magnum has a ton of bucking, and it's never really caused me to get off it hurting.

and tho I agree with you on Texas Giant (which I just rode for the 1st time three days ago, and found the 2nd half of the ride to be slow and meandering). . it and iron Rattler have the older version of the restraints (yeah, I realize a different train manufacturer too), but the restraints don't bother me at all.

Since you mentioned Magnum... it's my firm belief that a lot of people who complain about bruises / pain on Steel Vengeance got them from Magnum and Steel Vengeance hits you in the same spots so they blame Steel Vengeance. I know it happened to Brit and now she can ride Steel Vengeance as much as she wants by avoiding Magnum (which isn't exactly a tough thing for her to do, lol).

Personally I just ride them both because I don't care.

The comparative lack of "RMC aggression" is the only thing preventing Steel Vengeance from being my #1 coaster, honestly. The most violent airtime on the ride is probably the double-up into the MCBR. I think part of this has to do with how long and sustained the ejector air over the big elements is, it's not going to be quite as abrupt as on a smaller RMC.

That's why I really need to get on Lightning Rod. I feel like the aggressiveness will be right up my alley.

Oh, I'm sure that's absolutely true too.

I *definitely* will be riding SV if/when I make it back to CP in the future.

I came in with a disadvantage on my visit because it was the tail end of a 2 week trip, and I was already pretty badly injured before we even got to CP (that's because of MY choice to get on Skyrush, knowing I was still pretty bruised from TT). LOL.. some of my tripmates were giving me crap for not riding SV on the 1st night of ERT - until I showed them a picture of my bruising (I'll share it in my TR when I get to CP), and then - seriously - the person who was giving me the most grief took one look at it, and said: you get a pass, don't ride it.

I DID ride it the 2nd night of ERT, just once, and thank goodness rode it with Chase, who had ridden it so many times, he offered to ride it with me and was able to warn me where to brace. . so it wasn't too awful, tho I was only able to ride it once (and skipped Magnum completely on this trip, as i was already having trouble walking).

but was able to ride Maverick 6 times during final night ERT. . so anything without the restraints hitting in that spot on my thigh was A-OK (tho bending my leg to get in and out of the Maverick trains that final night was graceful (like a deer with an arrow thru it's head). . but luckily the Station guy didn't make me switch seats every time, so got to ride twice each time I got in the train. . LOL

oh, and don't get me wrong. . I am absolutely *not* complaining.. just explaining. If I get the opportunity to travel w/ TPR again, I'll absolutely do it, and make sure to bring my compression wrap for my Quads

My thighs were a bit sore on Millennium Force after a trimless Magnum ride. I definitely buy into the theory it's all Magnum's fault. Though it's totally worth riding Magnum because of how wrong and intense that air is.

I find the snap out of the zero-G stall and the double up entering the MCBR to be two of RMC's most aggressive elements, but they're still comfortable.

These comments about Steel Vengeance having uncomfortable restraints are hilarious. What are you people talking about?

If you are not 6'6" (or taller), then you really wouldn't know. You may or may not be, who knows, but it gets extremely uncomfortable after a few rides and how those lapbars secure my legs. Just like I prefer Maverick's OLD restraints as the new ones actually are more uncomfortable as the softer vest now digs into my shoulders. The old version didn't. What is comfortable for one body type isn't always as comfortable (or uncomfortable) for another.

What. The. Actual. F*ck.

6 feet 6 inches? Dude, 0.15% of people are that height, and the bitching is coming from way more than that. I suggest you march right down to the closest university, enroll in Statistics 101, and come back to us at the end of the semestre with a real argument.

Huh? You ok over there? What exactly is your point?

My only point was that for ME (and likely other tall people, the few percentage we may be...), the restraints are not comfortable with the strong air. That’s it. Bill made comment like anyone finding the restraints uncomfortable is silly, so I shared my perspective.

Oh, and no thanks on statistics… After engineering school, I’m good with all that! (Still don't get your point with that one though...)

Don't lie to me. You used extreme height as an explanation for why people are complaining about Steel Vengeance. Not sure if that stellar logic or the assertion that Bill doesn't understand what it's like to be tall is more hilarious.

Oh boy.

why does it matter? dude said its not comfortable for him and pointed at possible height issues for him. Just go on enjoying it without caring if other people are comfortable or not.

Back to your normally scheduled programming...

Well...I'm 5'8" with a few extra pounds and was at CP for 3 days and left with no pain or bruises after riding all the coasters multiple times. Maybe "I'm" doing it wrong leaving so unscathed. Anyway, I've seen numerous people say the (SV) restraints were uncomfortable among the many coaster groups on FB and other forums. A good portion of those were much taller than me. (6'1" and up). I can see why someone who is over that height may have issues because...well they have longer legs with less room. I can't explain those of a more average height and their issues, but we all experience these rides in our own ways. Maybe the restraint wasn't low enough...too tight? At the end of the day, let's just all have the best day ever!

For me at 6'1" it's more the shins, not the thighs. If I don't leave some space between my shins and the guard, it'll wreak havoc on them the whole ride. It doesn't matter which RMC, and even applies to the Premier launched coasters with shin guards, Sky Rocket, FoF, Mr. Freeze, etc.. I've learned the hard way, and subsequently felt like I had shin splints for a week. I definitely could not ride a bunch of times if I couldn't adjust my legs out of the way of the guard a bit. I'm not complaining, because it's very minimal and easily corrected, just sharing my observation.
