Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

Oh, it’s absolutely allowed. In fact, I’m sure they welcome it so now people don’t take up Cedar Point shores parking spaces when they’re not really going there. Just walk along the fence by Gatekeeper (there’s a new marked pedestrian area) and under the big “Boardwalk” arch.

It’s a really nice walk. They did a great job with that entire area.

That’s exactly what we did this morning after staying at the express hotel. Parked the car around 8.30 and walked the new boardwalk.

Picked up our Starbucks coffee along the way @breakers and waited about 10 minutes at the Magnum entrance with a lot of other people.

Watched the running when the gates opened which was fun to see but didn’t care to do the same( FL+ was already planned for today).

Fantastic tips! Thanks. Starbucks is a nice plus, too.

Check out this amazing photo compliments of Dave Morgan!!

I feel bad because this is all I post about lately but no... if a park has the ability to open and there's demand and they choose to stay closed then they're dumb. Period. Be creative and figure it ou

Did they happen to mention how heavy that train is?

Regarding the new Beach Boardwalk, I'll expound on it a bit more in my TR (with some lovely pictures!), but I used it a couple of times, both to get into the park at the Beach Entrance, and also when I left the park for the day, and was very impressed! Such a nice refresh to that beachfront, and I highly recommend anybody check it out, and utilize it at least once on their trip!

Just curious, last time I walked the new Boardwalk was on Mother's Day. Is it still full of dead fish? Or have they finally started to clean it like the other portion of beach?

Rode Steel Vengeance for the first time yesterday and yep, the hype is real. It was my 100th roller coaster and I currently rank it at the top above the other 99. Some of the elements and things this ride tries to do to you are simply unreal. The first drop, airtime moments, and inversions were all ridiculously intense. My favorite part was the final few bunny hills before the brake run, the airtime was so strong on some of those hills it felt like the train was trying to eject me. As for the mid-course brake, if it was biting at all, I didn’t notice it. Overall, Steel Vengeance is an absolutely incredible ride that deserves the reputation it’s been getting, and I strongly recommend planning a trip to the park to ride it if you haven’t already.

I find that interesting, since it was actually my least favorite part of the ride. Maybe it's just that every other RMC hybrid coaster has similar hills, or that Steel Vengeance already had plenty of ejector air on every hill before that, or maybe I just laughed and screamed so much along the way that I ran out of steam, but I felt like the final stretch of bunny hills was a bit overkill. Another inversion, some zia-zags, or even floater hills would have been a nice touch, in my opinion.

Was at the park today too. Didn't regret buying FL+ one bit. Steel Vengeance is something else... I honestly don't see how that ride can be topped. I think my favorite part was the first outerbaked turn. The airtime just kept getting stronger through the entire element. My favorite comment came from my friend who isn't an enthusiast.. when we hit the brake-run he looked at me and said the ride was trying to make him stand-up the whole time which I think is a pretty accurate description of SV.

Does anybody have any insight on how labor day/weekend crowds are? I'm thinking about making the trek out there but I cant deal with extremely long lines. Is it bad that weekend? Fastlane necessary?

Thanks in advance

Hey guys sorry to beat a dead horse, but I’ll be heading to cedar point for the first time this Saturday and the weather is showing scattered thunder storms and with a 60% chance of rain and winds ranging from 10-20 mph. Should I be generally concerned about any ride closures?

The wind won't be an issue. They might close Sky Ride and Windseeker but that's it.

As for the rain, some coasters will operate and some will close. It just depends on what the rain policy wheel lands on that day when they spin it. Dragster will close, other than that... round and round the rain policy wheel goes, where it stops, nobody knows!

^ LOL yeah, that’s how it’s been since I worked at the park in 2010. It all depended on who was in charge in ride ops that day... and even then each person wasn’t ever completely consistent.

Thanks for the info. I may be able to hit the park on Sunday as well for a few hours and there isn’t rain in the forecast. So if I miss anything I’ll be sure to hit them then. Also, only other question I have is, where in cedar point is the best to get a good beer?

Hi all, long time lurker...blah blah blah. Anywhoo, first things first, thanks for all the great laughs, inspiration and information I've gleaned from this site over the years. Secondarily, I'm taking my nephew to Cedar Point as his graduation gift. We'll be in-park June 19-21st, I've purchased platinum passes because we'll also use them at Knotts and CGA (and I hate paying for parking). I'm also planning on using the Fastlane+ in-park discount that I found out about reading here.

I'm so thrilled that SV is back on the Fastlane+ lineup, but I'm concerned that this will increase sales of Fastlane+ to the point that they may be sold out on the 19th when we get there. Do they sell out on Fastlane+ often? I'm watching the website and haven't seen any sellout dates yet, but I know it's still early in the season so crowd levels aren't as high as they'll be in the middle of the month. I know this is pretty much asking you to be prescient, but I guess I'm hoping for some insight. My plan is to check the website in the days running up to our arrival and if I see any days sellout I'll buy FL+ for the 19th and take the hit on the higher price, then buy it for the other two days when we're there on the 19th (if the weather report looks good for those days). Does this make sense?

Next question, we're planning on taking afternoon breaks at the waterpark so we'd like to park in that lot if possible, we'll be arriving around 8-8:30 am for early entry, when we get to the gates do we tell them this is what we're doing? Also, are guest services at the Resort Gate set up to process the season passes I've purchased online? I would assume so, but I know where assumptions get me.

I am completely amped to ride this lineup of coasters!

You'll be fine.

Yep.

They are not. You will need to process your season pass at the season pass processing center that's to the left of the main gate. (Someone please correct me if this has changed for 2018 )

Have fun!

Welcome to TPR!

They're not going to sell out of Fastlane. Don't worry about that.

When you're entering the parking lot, just use the left lane and stay left when you go through the toll booth. Follow the road around the outside of the park until you get to the parking lot entrance across from Gemini. I'm not sure about the season pass processing question, but if it were me I would park near the main gate on day one, get there early and just process the pass at the season pass building to the left of the gate. You could always move the car later on... exit towards the bay and make a right on perimeter road to get to the back lot from the main lot.

Since you have a Platinum Pass you can get into the park an hour early (every day at any gate). Make sure you take advantage of Early Entry. Steel Vengeance, Maverick Millennium Force, Gatekeeper, Valravn, Skyhawk and some kids rides and flats will be open from 9-10 exclusively for passholders and resort guests. You can't use Fastlane during that time, but it's still an awesome perk (especially because you won't even have to wait on the ramps or station steps for Millennium Force, Gatekeeper and possibly Valravn... you can basically just walk on to a train).

Have fun!

PS: Make sure you show your pass whenever you buy ANYTHING in the parks or at the restaurants on the peninsula (in Breakers or at Famous Dave's at the marina). You get a discount on basically everything.

Thanks guys! I will cease fretting about Fastlane selling out

Now that I know we'll have to go to the processing center at the front of the park, we'll just park there the first day and I can move the car in the afternoon. On the CP website it shows the Season Pass center hours as opening at park open, so...we'll have to wait until 9am to get passes taken care of?

But more important than that, Brew and BBQ, worth it? I'm thinking 15 tix each might be a good deal and cover us for light lunch and tasting a few new beers for a couple days, or are the food servings tiny, and do we have to use all 15 tickets in one day? We're from the land of microbrew heaven, so although tasting new beers is great, we're more interested in the food options. I've got your recommendation for Trail Tavern noted, we'll be sure to stop in there for our beer fix.

For whatever its worth, last year I "processed" my Platinum pass at Michigan's Adventure by showing them the printout from the web order and them taking my picture and printing a card right there at the main gate. This year my renewal was "processed" by the parking booth attendant at King's Dominion. Not sure if CP is any different.
