P. 1989: Wicked Twister's permanent closure announced!

Recommended Posts

So what all does it take to Shut a ride down for the year. Do they just have a key that shuts the ride down?

Hit E-stop, then go below deck and hit the power switch. That's pretty much all there is to it. The trains get craned off the coaster later in the month.

Most parks actually take most trains of the day or week after park close.

I don't think Ripcord would fit in very well with the Frontier trail theaming.

Giddy up for a NEW, high-flyin' adventure of a lifetime! For only a few bits, you and your pardner and crime will be climin' to the top of a canyon-sized mountain of steel overlookin' the wild, wild west. After pullin' the trigger, ya'll will be soarin' through the air like an eagle catchin' it's prey as fly over the midways of Frontier Trail. What do you say, pal? Are you ready to face your fears like an outlaw, or are ya too chicken?

Old-Timey on-ride photos will be located in the gift shop.

Honestly, if they repainted it a greyish-black, it would not look too out of place. Even as it is now in its current shade of grey, they could name it after an eagle, or a 1800's flying experiment (a knock at SDC's Wildfire), and have a pretty forgivable placement.

Nonetheless, the location over the creek will be neat.

As someone who's never been to Cedar Point . . . let me ask this.

What's the general wait time for Top Thrill Dragster? (assuming that they have 2 trains running) And what's the longest you've had to wait for it?

If Top Thrill Dragster had 2 trains running I would expect the wait time to be about 4 hours

Luckily they always run 5 trains (unless they're absolutely dead and they run 4) and lines usually range from 30 to 90 minutes depending on what time of year / day of the week you're going. On super slow days the line can be shorter, during Halloweekends it can be longer. Add between 30-45 minutes to those wait times for the front row (which is where you should sit).

These wait times don't reflect the inevitable frequent breakdowns. Asking people about the longest line they've waited in for Dragster is pointless because that'll usually be due to the ride going down multiple times when they were in line. During Dragster's opening year, 12-14 hour waits were completely normal since people would camp out along the fence playing board games / sleeping / finding other creative ways to waste their entire day hoping that the ride would eventually open. In many cases it never did.

Thank you for pointing out about 5 trains . . . . I know TTD's cousin Kinga Ka can run 3 trains at once (assuming both loading platforms are used).

And yeah, given the unique nature of Dragster, I'd figure breakdowns would be common. And how frequently do rollbacks occur? And I'm pretty sure that TTD can't be launched in wet/cold/windy weather?

Kingda Ka can actually run 4 trains at once, they just choose to run a maximum of 3 because they're Six Flags and have only used 1 of the 4 available loading stations for years now. Now that Zumanjaro is attached to the ride, it's lowered capacity even further but they were only running 2-3 trains for years leading up to Zumanjaro. Dragster blows Kingda Ka away in that department.

Rollbacks aren't overly common with people on the train. They generally happen first thing in the morning or right after a lengthy breakdown. Dragster can absolutely launch in cold weather (they probably don't run it below 40 degrees but that's rare at Cedar Point during their operating season) but it won't run in rain or high winds. It does have a higher wind threshold than something like Sky Ride or Windseeker though so it's very rare for Dragster to be down for an entire day due to wind. It's absolutely possible but not a major concern most of the time.

So now that it's the off season, what glorious things will this thread bring us?

We will count down the months until Mean Streak re-opens... Speaking of which, only 19-months left! (...according to people on this site )

You could get pregnant and have a baby TWICE before it opens

Interestingly enough, there is some thought behind Dragster only running 5 of 6 trains during normal operation. When I worked there, the main reason was capacity. They found there was zero gain in capacity when adding the 6th train the the circuit. Eliminating the sixth train essentially cut down maintenance needed on trains and also left a spare to swap out when a train had to be removed. Another reason the remove the sixth is it cut down on idle time for riders waiting to exit the ride, improving guest comfort waiting to exit. They usually rotate the color that's idle for the season, you will notice it's usually the same color off track for the whole season unless another train needs a large repair.

Well to begin

1) we must find the boat

2) we must throw the boat a welcome back party

3) wait for the complainers to come out

4) wait for the complainers to complain about the complainers

5) get a Mean Streak update

6) hopefully see if there is any progress on Mean Streak

7) hopefully another cool Christmas video by the full timers

8) more post of the boat

9) Mean Streak

And we can throw in the sky ride as always.
