Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

p. 2030 - Top Thrill 2 announced!

Recommended Posts

I rode Valravn twice tonight as they opened the ride for about an hour for employees.

To anyone who says the restraints are restrictive, I beg to differ. My butt was out of the seat for a great majority of the ride! The drop, the immelman, second drop, the dive loop, the barrel roll (omg!), and the airtime hill... Tons and tons of airtime. Such a fun, solid ride. Sheikra is one of my favorites and Valravn pretty much annihilated it.

Am I the only one who thinks the dining plan took a nose dive this year? Seems like they cut portion size in half and much lower quality.

Yes and no....

Yes....the panda express portion is smaller. Not sure why, because the portions are still the same at other cedarfair locations.

No... they added chickie and petes and I think johhny rockets as well.

The quality of cedarpoint food has never really been that high to begin with unless you hit up a chain location.

I also got to ride Valravn 3 times today for the first time during special ride time for park associates. A few things

-The new midway and entrance plaza looks so good I didn't even feel like I was in Cedar Point anymore.

-The view from the top is beautiful, test riding Millennium Force every morning I THOUGHT that was a great view but truly the view from the top of Valravn is not only the best in the park, but you get to experience it longer since you have the right hand turn.

-The layout is phonomenal, riding Sheikra & Griffon I never thought the ending came to quickly, but on Valravn there truly is a second half to the ride. And the airtime hill delivered some good floater air. Seriously comparable to small hills near the end of B&M Hypers.

-Being 6ft tall I've had the same problem as others with vest restraints digging into my collar bone, I'm happy to report the vests are a lot looser on Valravn and there was no collar bone pain at all.

-With that said about the vests I'm happy to report in the back row my butt was completely out of my seat and there's just as much airtime in the back row as the other dive coasters.

-The 270 degree roll is a VERY fun inversion. In the back right it's a blast.

-Final Thoughts, stellar addition to CP's lineup and it ranks #1 compared to Sheikra & Griffon in my book. I'm looking forward to riding it many times this summer! Come check it out!

Many were complaining about this ride but maybe Cedar Point got it right. It seems like after riding Valravn many are now believers. I for one am making a return trip to the point after 2 years. In part b/c of Valravn but also because they have a have a sick coaster collection.

Glad to see all the positive feedback that Valravn is getting. I'm also super excited to hear that the vest restraints aren't nearly as bad as they are on some other coasters. Can't wait to be at the park this summer to ride it!!

I wish I could get a chance to ride Valravn. And those in the forum who got to ride it, what are your overall thoughts on it?

My overall thought is that it is a great addition to Cedar Point, a very fun coaster to ride, but one that will not get a lot of repeat rides from me unless the line is no more than 30 - 45 minutes... That is how I feel about TTD too, though I think I personally prefer Valravn a little more, since it's not a "one trick pony". The view from the top of Valravn is amazing, that first drop still feels unique and exciting (even with Maverick, TTD, and WT all having vertical, or beyond vertical drops), and the final inversion element offers serious hang time, especially in the back right! What I like even more than the coaster itself, however, is the impact the ride has on the area around it. It just brings that whole part of the park to life, and has turned one of the more awkward, dead-end parts of the park into a fun and exciting place to walk through, even if you don't NEED to! Really, my only complaint, or negative, would be the choice of yet more orange for the park. But that's mostly because I just don't personally care for the color, and also think a darker color scheme would have fit the ride's theme better as well. Minor quibbles though, and I think installing it was a great move by Cedar Point!

I agree with you that Valravn really made the Marina look a lot nicer. It was such a dead area in the park that really needed some love. I might go to Cedar Point this year and am looking forward to Valravn if I go. My only complaint with Valravn is its color scheme. I like the orangish/brownish track on blue supports but the thing is that Rougarou looks a lot like it with the orange and teak and it seems that they weren't too creative with Valravn's color. But I still think it's a great fit for Cedar Point! I feel like they made the right decision by putting in a B&M Dive Coaster and I hope they will be installed at the other Cedar Fair Parks.

So, I'm arriving Saturday afternoon to ride the smaller coasters, and am staying at Breakers Express for the night. I was planning on hitting Valravn, MA and Maverick with the early entry Sunday morning, but am I to understand it will STILL be long waits at 9 am?

Lines will be shorter then than they will when the park opens. Are you getting Fastlane?

If you are I'd just start out at Maverick and power ride that. Then just use Fastlane for Millennium Force and Valravn once the park opens.

A couple of things...

First off, note that when I utilized early entry this past Saturday, nothing started running until about 9:45... So, there is a chance that you only get on one of those three rides you mentioned during early entry. Hopefully not, hopefully they're running things a little quicker for you that Sunday. I just wanted to give you a heads-up, so you weren't completely caught off-guard if it goes like that again when you're there.

Secondly, friends who went this past Sunday, reported more reasonable wait times for Valravn than Saturday (which makes sense), but additionally, you may want to do Maverick and MF during early entry, because almost everybody there for early entry will go to Valravn, making it longer than it may end up being later in the day. At least that's what I found this past Saturday.

Have a nice trip!

This is my first post to the forum. Been reading for awhile now gathering info and tips for our first visit to CP. Looking forward to visiting the Roller Coaster Capital of the World! I do have one question. One of the days we will be at the park my lovely wife will turn 51. Was wondering if CP does anything or offer anything special for someone celebrating a b'day while at the park?

I remember seeing last year people walking around with buttons saying it's their birthday... mostly kids though, not that adults can't get one though! I think you go to guest services and ask for one. Also, if she's a season pass holder the person that scans you in wishes you a happy birthday because a message that it's your birthday pops up on their screen. That's all I know of, hope I helped!

I would only count on getting one of those coasters in for early entry...and that is if MF and Maverick are even running (they tend to have early morning hangovers like me). Remember, it's a hell of a long walk from Valravn to Maverick even with a MF stop in between.

My bet would be to go on whichever coaster is running and if the line isn't too long, re-ride as many times as possible before the GP arrives. Valravn might actually be your best bet in terms of reliability, but then again...it's a new coaster, so you never know.

Sorry for the double post, but I just checked the webcams and I'm seeing most rides are running... could that be further employee training?

Yup! I start training and commissioning Skyride tomorrow. I hope this season goes well, commons is.. interesting. Wish me luck!

I have just a quick question about winds. My group of friends was planning on going to Cedar point on Saturday, hoping that the low Temps and early rain scares some people off. However, the forecast also calls for 20-25 mph winds. What can I expect to be closed?

Hello,

I haven't been to Cedar Point in about 13 years. I was wondering if any locals had an ideal route to possibly ride every major ride in the park in one day without the flashpasses. I'll be heading up there Monday, and even though it may not be crowded, were still thinking of a possible worst case scenario. Any help is greatly appreciated.
