Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

P. 1989: Wicked Twister's permanent closure announced!

Recommended Posts

What's up with the low capacity? Maybe yes so the launch and the other things can work better, but 12 per trains? How long the line will be? Anyone knows how many trains will they operate? If it's less than 5, it maybe will have an extreme long line for the opening day.

From the official website:

Six 12-passenger trains, Three cars, with four seats per car, per train

Tiered seating on the coaster's cars for better viewing (similar to stadium seating)

Maybe the first coaster that can compete with SROS and EGF, don't you think?

Not a chance.

Maverick certainly looks different and for Cedar Point to put in something unique that doesn't try to break some kind of record is a good thing.

All I can hope for now is a change in employment, an improvement in wages and then it's hello USA 2007!

Well, interesting layout, probably intense airtimes, launch, LONG RIDE.

And something really new: a second part faster than the first, I think it's the first time a coaster goes this way!

The only advantage that old intamin hypers have is the tiny lap bar.

I agree this is a huge advantage

Well, it certainly looks as if Cedar Point has a good ride on their hands. It feels balanced. Its got a little bit of everything. Its got a lift, launch, airtime, speed, the drop, inversions, twists...hell, even themeing and practically duels itself!

My only concern, is that is valiant attempts to have a little of everything, will result in it having a whole lot of nothing. No one element of this thing really stands out to me. And for that reason, it may lack personality. It's like a beefed up Big Thunder Mountain, minus a mountain and the cute little goat.

That doesn't mean it will be a bad ride! I think it looks like a great roller coaster! I'm just still a little confused by it.

p.s. I guess I better bookmark this, because when I check back in a few hours, its going to be on its 100th page.

Amen to that! And so what if it isn't taller, faster, doesn't have a vertical loop, etc. To everyone that has, stop complaining. If that's a problem then don't ride it. Just be happy it's another coaster, a good one. And it's themed. This looks to be a good, fun ride. What's wrong with that?

Personally, I think it's a refreshing change to put in a 'normal' coaster and not one that has to break a height or speed record.

So what if they didn't break a record this time. There's always the next coaster.

Kelly and I are already planning on being in Kentucky during June of next year. Now it looks like we just might have to make the drive up to Sandusky to check out their new toy. I'm a big fan of California Screamin because of the launch/first hill combination and I'm hoping Maverick's drop is somewhat similar air time wise.

BTW the website for the new ride is some quality stuff.

WHOA!!!

This ride looks sweet! I love that low barrel roll in the second half, and those "overbanks" look pretty sweet.

This should be a very exciting, fun, enjoyable coaster. It looks like the type I'd ride over and over again, just because it's adventurous and just plain fun!

Pretty effing sweet move here, as long as the LSM's don't have any maintenance issues.

You know what the most fun part of the ride will be? When they drop the ropes at 10am to start the running of the bulls, and most of the guests will pass out by the time they realize this coaster is as far as possible from the front gate!! I always love watching people run for MF or TTD only to stop after a few steps and try to catch their breath.

So, now is the time to start training!!

Oh, the whole thing looks awesome and a lot of fun!

So now I know what they are building!! What a difference a week makes!

Well done, CP. Well done.....of course, if you can avoid the downtime to keep it open. I'll address the aquatrax talk briefly. To all the fanboys we jousted with over the final 200+ pages or so of the "official" thread, none of us really even cared what it would be.....you missed a serious amount of sarcasm, but we still love ya anyway.

As far as MAV goes (can I claim first official abbreviation? ), I actually love the design. I guess someone finally realized that biggest is not always baddest. I also think the barrel roll between the boulders is currently very underestimated by many folks out there, much like the front end seats of Griffon. I think the only thing wrong with that element is that it's not facing the public viewing area.....it would've been nice to photograph that coming head-on at you. Oh well, very minor complaint.

All in all, until the Intamin shake settles in, Maverick may have finally given me good enough reason to go back to the point next year.
