Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

P. 2037: Siren’s Curse tilt coaster announced for 2025!

Recommended Posts

All cars have gotten heavy. It's a shame for the performance oriented cars. The dodge Challenger is a fat (disgusting) pig at almost 4,000 pounds and the Camaro SS is tipping the scales at 3700 pounds. Marica... Hell, even my "lighter" STI is 3,400 pounds.

Anyway, back on topic.

Nice to see update videos for Valverononenomen or whatever it's called. I agree that while this is a tremendous coaster, I think its hype would be much more significant if installed at a different park. For Cedar Point, it's just kind of expected. However like Gatekeeper, this is not going to get me out to visit the park. In fact I don't think ANY B&M will get me to any park any more. Tatsu might have been the last of their greats. Enough with the sleeper generic B&M's! Cedar Point, I want some actual airtime and amazingness! Intamin or RMC if you please!

However I think once RMC is done with Six Flags Cedar Point is going to have a killer RMC probably replacing Meanstreak.

Uhhhh...Challengers are bitchin! Manual transmission on that puppy is out of control.

I was wondering if any information has been released about the winter chill out tour this year? I have wanted to go every year but just forget about it and it is over by the time I realize. This year I want to make sure I do not miss it, if there isn't any info yet when about do they usually release the dates? Thanks for any help.

This is going to be one INSANE coaster

A vertical 21-story drop, and then being flipped upside down over 150 feet into the air with another two inversions and an additional 100+ foot drop. Where else can you do that in your everyday life? That is indeed "insane" to anyone who doesn't live to ride coasters (99.9999% of the population & Cedar Point's target audience).

You can already do all of this in the park already, maybe for another park but for CP Valravn is just mediocre. Not only are the stats weak for a park like CP the layout is equally as weak, maybe if the layout wasn't as dull as it's color scheme the ride would be more accepted. It just seam like CP went with just off the shelf B&M like nothing was put into this coaster beside copy and paste.

Have you ridden Banshee, yet? It's the most forceful B&M I've ridden in a long time and it never lets up. It's about perfect for my tastes. Fury also looks like a solid ride. Not that I'm saying that this ride will be a Banshee or a Fury, but there are some decent modern B&M's out there.

As far as the Challenger goes, it's just too big for me, man. No doubt it's fast as hell in a straight line, but it's a boat. I'd rather drive a small nimble 6 speed 200 hp Subaru BRZ/Scion FRS.

There's fun and there's insane. To some people they one one in the same. Insane to me and probably most people is I305 or Dragster, which this will be far from. In comparison to other coasters this thing 'seems' like it will be relatively fun, but it also seems like it's going to be a blast.

I disagree. I think for the majority of the GP this coaster will be well accepted, just like Gate Keeper. Again, CP doesn't shoot to appease the enthusiast minority. I had apprehensions about Griffin, seeing as how it really didn't look like it did anything special, but it ended up being one of my favorite coasters of the summer. It most definitely wasn't 'rip your face off insane' like I305 that we rode the previous day, but it was a ton of fun and good for many rerides. Yes, it does similar things to Rougaru, but dive machines provide different experiences than floorless coasters. The only thing I think CP could have done differently is retained a splashdown effect. Part of what makes Griffin neat is swooping around the massive wall of water it creates after the splash.

Someone tweeted Tony Clark (CP's Director of Communications) and he said information will be released sometime in December.

I'm hoping to see lift hill parts going into place this coming week!! (However, I'm not holing my breath that it will actually end up happening.)

They probably won't be going very tall until the foundations are finished. They still need a bigger crane.

I know there is at least one much larger crane on site. It showed up on the Webcam the middle of last week, but it hasn't been back since. I'm assuming they have it out of the construction site until the need it for higher work.

I think that this ride is not really for the roller coaster enthusiast it is more the GP who will agree with Dummermattk. I have to agree with JonnyRCT3 this ride is going to a great ride.

The issue most are having is this is NOT in line with Cedar Points tradition of being innovative, creative and different. CP would probably respond that it is the tallest, fastest and longest but it many hardcore roller coaster enthusiast wanted to see something different and this feels like lip service to Cedar Points traditions. Me personally I was disappointed that they did not at least add a new type of element. For example right next door Raptor was the first coaster with the cobra roll.

Good news is that they have/had everything in the B&M catalog (Floorless, Standing, Winged, Vertical, Inverted) except for a Flying coaster, the sitting coaster which they won't do, and the hyper/giga b/c they already have both of those. So what ever coaster they build next won't be B&M.

Cedar Point is in an interesting spot. It is hard to build a creative innovative ground breaking coaster with the capacity necessary for that park that can accommodate a family. Essentially what ever they do someone is going to be pissed, lol.

I get what you're saying andmostly agree, but I just want to point out that Raptor was nowhere near being the first coaster with a cobra roll....

To the notion that VR doesn't live up to the legacy of the park...(1) I think the subtext is that some people just want a manufacturer change away from B&M (even though, as has often been said, dive machines tend to deliver), & (2) these aren't the days of the coaster wars anymore.

CP vs. SFWoA/PKI/KW + SFMM: The WWIII of amusement parks, & what a time to be alive as coaster fans! There were so many competitive ingredients, new technologies, improved engineering, fights for bragging rights, and a decent economy (for a time) working together. "Bigger and better" was simply out there for the purchasing.

The economy has now recovered a bit, but this is a post-coaster-war era overall, & a post-Kinzel era for Cedar Fair. Cedar Point can only push so many more legitimate record-setting boundaries, let alone coaster types. Settling in the 170-230 ft/70-80 mph range still speaks to undeniable large scale, the park snagging a few categorical world records, and getting a hit coaster. I think that's the formula we're going to continue to see for CP's major coaster additions. Even with an RMC Mean Streak, I'd bet on roughly 185 ft and 70-75 mph.

I know we all want the creativity of coasters to progress over time, and I think they have in many ways. We see smaller footprint coasters. We see weirder coasters. We see more creative launched coasters. Euro Fighters. RMC. The bars of innovation are still being raised, but the benefits are now spread around so that more small parks and those with spacial/budgetary limitations can get great rides, too. For the big coaster wars parks, it gets tougher to keep being innovative while beating the "bigger and badder" drum when they already have great coaster collections, and when manufacturers are tapping plenty of business with parks that aren't necessarily looking to break world records.

Cedar Point needs people pleasers and people munchers, with some record-setting cherries on top. The GP seems to love Gatekeeper and they're going to love VR, too. The few hundred niche nerds (if that) around the world who might say "I'm not going back to that park with 17 coasters until they build what I want" are only screwing themselves by turning a hobby that should be fun into a party-pooping, armchair GM list of demands that will never be actualized.

VR isn't not the most innovative or hottest new product on the market, but most likely will be a solid ride with a high thrill factor that even the whiniest enthusiast will enjoy. Oh no!!

If VR isn't enough for you, you can always ride Maverick, Dragster, Raptor, Magnum, maXair, Skyhawk, Power Tower, or Millennium Force.

Or maybe visit another park.

I guess what I thought was the "Larger" crane was not the largest one that was coming to the construction site!! The new one is arriving!! This means we are one step closer to that lift hill going in place!! Can't wait!!
