Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

P. 1989: Wicked Twister's permanent closure announced!

Recommended Posts

B&M dive coasters are great, but I can't say I am that impressed by this announcement for what it is (and please don't attack me for being less than 100% impressed and excited, I am still at least 70% impressed/excited).

Yes, it is an awesome big dive coaster, but I feel like it falls short for Cedar Point overall. The "barely the tallest dive coaster" height, the lack of a splashdown, the layout just seems minimal, not utilizing the 10 across seating, and very likely another clean but dry and generic plaza/entrance/station with no character (we will see).

Still a great addition and I am sure it will go over extremely well with the GP, but considering the reputation Cedar Point has I was hoping they would push the envelope a bit more. It's still a top notch addition to their stellar line up.

Agreed. I'm not overly thrilled with the announcement either. It's a solid ride but being someone that's ridden both Sheikra and Griffon I find myself somewhat underwhelmed. It'll be a fun ride and will fit nicely with the rest of the park.

I've never been on a dive coaster, so I'm shocked to see so many people lamenting the lack of a splash-down.

I didn't realize it was such an important (or impressive) element.

I think it's the lack of a lot of elements on this ride.

Don't get me wrong, I am excited to ride this ride and will probably be one of the first in line. But..........

The rides layout just seems uninspiring to me, and it lacks a lot of elements that other dive coasters have(splashdown, tunnel, ect). In my opinion, I think they could have done a better job. Could you imagine something like a splashdown near the main midway and the interaction with passer bys for example? The length of the ride seems rather short to me as well even if it is the longest.

Now before you start bashing me, remember, this is just my opinion. I am sure the gp is going to eat this ride up and love it.

The animation appears to show a lack of B&M roar. Considering the fact that the first drop, along with most of the ride, is right by the marina entrance, making it quieter is probably a good decision.

In terms of aesthetics, it's a very good element. In terms of riding, it's a straightaway above water.

I agree, I really thought it was going to do more than just a few inversions and a MCBR.

Given the space they're working with, I'd rather have more midway and paths than a splashdown that creates dead ends and throws a wall of water up in the middle of the park. I guess some tunnels would be nice, but that's something they can add on after construction using less than 50K in supplies from Menards if so desired. Not like that industrial looking one on Leviathan makes the ride.

This was the first thing that popped into my mind as well, almost like a pre-built ride in RCT chosen and plopped-down wherever it could fit. It sometimes feels like there's something missing from some of Cedar Fair's latest coasters to make it that much more memorable and not fade into the blur of other coasters offered in the park.

But then I always think back to the steel shed "tunnel" that was added on to Leviathan, making me figure why they should even bother with theming in the first place. Just put a nice plaza around/under the ride, and make it photogenic enough to photograph (and please, please, PLEASE add shading to the queue). Most park go'ers probably know to expect little to no theming anyways.

Cedar Point's coaster lineup is unlike anything! Between Valravn, Maverick, GateKeeper, Millennium Force, Top Thrill Dragster, Magnum, and Raptor, they have 7major coasters! And they are all quality! When coasters like Rougarou and Wicked Twister are not even in the top 7 major coasters at a park, you know it's an insane lineup! I can't wait to ride Valravn next year! Any park with 4 huge B&Ms and 4 huge Intamins is a must visit in my book!

... Complaining about the ride less than 12 hours after it was announced... That's a little sad... I think it looks awesome. I like the colors and I think the name is unique. Maybe if it was named Flight Deck 223 or something and it was all white or whatever I'd be a little upset... But the renderings look awesome to me. Theming or not it looks amazing to me. This isn't Disney or Busch, it's an AMUSEMENT park and we all know that, if this opened at a THEME park, then it would be different.

I am EXTREMELY excited for this ride. I've wanted to visit Busch for many years simply to try a dive machine. I must admit I thought CP would push the envelope and create the first 300ft+ Dive coaster but whatever I'm not complaining. Why does every DM have the turn at the top though? Why do none of them go straight into the holding brake/drop is it just for the view?

Also which row is the best? I'm typically a backseat rider but I feel like the back row wouldnt get much out of the holding brake effect.

Remember, it's just the animation. He usually takes sound samples from a similar coaster (in this case probably Sheikra or Griffon) and mixes it with offride sounds of Gatekeeper from media day. If you listen closely to that video on youtube, you'll see exactly where he got most of his sounds. I'm sure this enormous track will amplify sound like crazy. That's a great way to enter the park for sure!

Anyway, about the tunnel, perhaps they'll pull a Leviathan and add a tunnel last minute if they have any extra cash in the budget.

Did I mention how good this thing looks in its location? I mean, it may just be the animation at the beginning of the POV looking out of the station, that view is beautiful in it's own "CP generic" way

The more I watch the videos the more I get excited yeah its lacking a splashdown and a tunnel. But is everyone suddenly forgetting the barrel roll? I don't recall this ever being done on a dive coaster before and I think it's going to be one of the top elements of this ride. I for one can't wait to have a dive coaster at my home park!

I'm not a huge fan of this just being plopped down in a field on a pretty predominant corner of the midway with what could have been a huge amount of guest interaction (like Dragster). But there could definitely be worse things.

What intrigues me the most about this announcement is the station. I only saw one other person mention it so far, but it looks amazing. The sleek and simple folded roof plane that resembles the wing of a bird is probably the coolest station I've seen. It doesn't really jive with the style of the logo like Banshee's station does, but I still love it. It's amazingly elegant for a coaster station. I probably have too high of an expectation that they're going to uplight the roof from below and put speakers/signage somewhere else so it remains as clean as this image is, but that would really be stunning if they did. At night it would appear as if it were floating.

Edit: LOVE that this is getting the vests! LOVE!

Straight to the point, I like it. Ever since riding Sheikra in 2009, I've wanted to take a trip to BGE to ride Griffon (was last there in 2004). Now I don't have to drive 9 hours, and there will be a bigger and badder dive machine a lot closer. As simple and plain as it seems, I like it. This thing is going to be so intimidating!

And now for the opinion you've all been waiting for: Mine!

- Noticed that many people are suffering from "anticipointment" where before the announcement they were excited and now are just ho-hum... this is also why I try to not follow leaked information, I really want to be surprised, even if the secret is out.

- Love the logo and name (I haven't mentioned that before)

- Looks like a good, solid ride for the park

- Will be a capacity monster (easy to load trains and a shorter circuit)

- Neat to see the newer restraints on this ride

- Amazed how much coaster fits in such a small space (yes, it's a pretty small space when it comes to a 223' coaster... lots of layering going on)

- I would have liked a water splash, (cause they look neat) but not enough room

- I will wait for the final product before mentioning themes.... these are just renderings after all, people

- Hoping an above-ground tunnel or "chopper effects" will be added

- Bonus: shorter lines for everything else, at least for a few hours anyway

- What's new for 2017? (just kidding!)

Oh so the animation is going to be taken really literally huh? Okay well then I have some complains about the 2016 additions too based on my ultra-literal interpretation of the video.

1) The ride doesn't roar enough obviously as has been mentioned.

2) While I agree that this is Murica and the Skyride needs to be reversed so it's not traveling on the left side like it's in some monarchy where they don't have freedom like here in Murica, I don't see why reversing the Skyride would make any financial sense. It seems like alot of money to spend for something that's not marketable... unless of course they're taking a page from the Six Flags playbook like for example... "For a Limited Time Only Ride Sky Ride... Backwards!". In that case that sounds amazing and I'll absolutely head out there to experience it.

3) transfer.jpg.416f1af665d8d7fa4bab2938aec6287c.jpg

I don't like that they're removing Iron Dragon's transfer track. This will really hurt capacity since now it has to run one train.

4) Untitled.jpg.cdc9115b4f75effc827930c8c278e6da.jpg

I'm disappointed by the lack of a photo booth or gift shop at the exit. Any ride that doesn't allow me to buy a $5 Vitamin Water upon exit sucks and isn't worth my time.

5) capacity.thumb.jpg.7ff929a003fdefb478fe5dce6c27c29a.jpg

I don't get why they would only run 1 train even on what's apparently a slow day with no other trains in transfer. Cedar Point operations should be better than this.

So yeah according to the renderings this season's gonna suck.
