P. 2017: Top Thrill Dragster RETIRED!?!?!?

Recommended Posts

It feels similar to when Magic Mountain added Scream, it's "one for the count."

What does this even mean? It's a nice looking coaster that will revitalize and open up a dead-end part of the park.

Plus, dive machines are fun to watch and are a hit with both the general public and enthusiasts.

Not every new ride is going be an Intamin Giga, RMC or whatever it is you feel like the park needs!

The fact is that when non enthusiasts see the holding brake they're going to absolutely lose their s**t. For a lot of people that's flat out terrifying and it's unique to the park and for that reason alone I'm pretty sure a lot of people will look at this as an innovative, thrilling ride and an example of Cedar Point pushing the envelope for thrills. Enthusiasts won't feel that way but 99% of people will. The holding brake is what makes this ride for most people and if you're not a coaster person and if you're afraid of heights it WOULD be terrifying.

I'm not a huge fan of the vest restraints being used here, but that's just me being picky. The coaster looks great, and is only going to further compliment the park's already-extensive line of giants.

I mean, even Millennium Force has a "toaster oven" station, fairly basic trains, and nothing really out on the course

I normally agree with you but I have to step in here...

Millennium Force is a highly themed journey back in time to an island filled with dinosaurs. The name makes perfect sense too as they never specified which Millennium they were referring to. Everyone misses the theme because they incorrectly assume they were talking about this Millennium.

Millennium Force just might rank a little higher on my list because of that description! It's perfect!

Colors look better in the pics then in the animations thankfully. Location and layout look good. Name is good. Bluestreak midway being fixed is good. Vest restraints is bad. Overall looks very good!

WHAT?! What's wrong with the vest restraints?

I'm a coaster fan, and I'm also terrified of heights. I know that makes no sense, but it's true. So this coaster may end up being similar to MF's first drop in terms of terror.

I like the newer restraints as they are less restrictive and make you feel more vulnerable and open. Yet still remain very comfortable. The ONLY problem people seem to have with them is the tight squeeze, which is only noticeable the 10 seconds you wait outside the station.

So I don't see how it is a huge issue, at all.

They're extremely uncomfortable for tall people and large people. As a tall person, I hate them. They dig into my shoulders and neck, and the bar sits on my crotch weird. I don't have a problem with the old OTRs, and consider the vests a massive downgrade, but obviously considering this us subjective, I suppose some people find them a huge upgrade. Also, given the nature of a dive, I could see the vest part locking, like gatekeeper used too and that would make it even worse for tall people, though we should wait to see before assuming the will lock.

*still waiting on the pushback from CP to the FAA about the fact we need approval for building it above 217 feet - of course the public will help...but that delays construction if they drag it to the 120day/3mo review time*

Now Cedar Point just needs to give RMC keys to Mean Streak and I'm set!

Or just leave MS alone and build a bad ass NEW coaster. Mean Streak is fine...just rode it a few times without trim the other day (lucky me?)...and saw a 45min wait so while a lot here feel it doesn't get much live, it clearly isn't a bad coaster (cough SOB, HADES360, Hurler cough). How about sit in the front, grab the handle and lean forward with your butt off the seat

If we just "fix" mean streak, that doesn't ADD to the current record and I'm sure the park would like to add-on:

***Most roller coaster track at one amusement park (60,110 feet/11.4 miles)***

With 2020, we should add not 'renovate' but showcase something special - if it is an Intamin/RMC/flyer/4D fight to the finish, we should have something great to look forward to...

Personally, I dont like em. I much prefer Raptors style otsr. I even like Vekoma's new Vest over gatekeepers. I cant get comfortable in them. Its gonna be a solid ride, and the vest wont ruin the ride for me, its just the vest are my only compaint so far on this ride

For some reason it never feels like I'm hanging when riding Griffon. It feels like I'm gliding over the edge and then plunging down like it really does.

Exactly! For me it's a case of "I reeeeeeeallllly hope these restraints don't fail" as I am looking straight down 200 feet for those 4 seconds on the holding brake.

It's a very unique and exciting feeling!

Given that the Griffing Sandusky Airport no longer exists, and that huge development plans have been announced to turn the site into public park space -- a project backed financially by Cedar Fair -- I'm sure they'll work that one out pretty quickly.

I'm not typically one to be a Debby Downer' date=' but this is pretty underwhelming announcement. I don't care what kind of "records" this thing breaks, no matter how you look at it, Sheikra did most of what this coaster does 10 years ago. The lack of a tunnel, water splash, or theming in general kinda kills the excitement of this coaster for me.[/quote']

I also view it like this. Having Sheikra so close gave me higher hopes for this coaster, but this still looks like this coaster could have been designed around the same time as Sheikra...

Considering their existing line-up, this looks like a pretty great addition for this park. I don't want to come off as a complainer since I'm definitely not losing any sleep over this, but I'm very surprised of all parks CP wouldn't really up the ante and install a 250 or 300 foot dive machine. They just added a few feet to snatch the record. Nonetheless, I'm sure it will be a great ride. I haven't ridden a dive machine and they look like a ton of fun. Pretty cool that CP is getting B&Ms 100th.

Related, I couldn't help but notice this on the page on parks website about the new ride.

Known for their smooth ride, high throughput of riders and top-notch reliability, B&M’s coasters provide the ultimate experiences for fans young & old.

Slight dig at Intamin if you ask me.

^^Basically any manufacturer but Intamin could claim that.

I wish Stengel was still designing rides for B&M. This ride looks floaty and lame just like everything else they've churned out over the past several years.

Obvious troll is obvious.

B&M dive coasters are great, but I can't say I am that impressed by this announcement for what it is (and please don't attack me for being less than 100% impressed and excited, I am still at least 70% impressed/excited).

Yes, it is an awesome big dive coaster, but I feel like it falls short for Cedar Point overall. The "barely the tallest dive coaster" height, the lack of a splashdown, the layout just seems minimal, not utilizing the 10 across seating, and very likely another clean but dry and generic plaza/entrance/station with no character (we will see).

Still a great addition and I am sure it will go over extremely well with the GP, but considering the reputation Cedar Point has I was hoping they would push the envelope a bit more. It's still a top notch addition to their stellar line up.
