RIP Psyclone
I understood it. I wonder if there was ever a 6 eyed dragon in the initial plans.
simlesa
Isn't this pretty much the same element? --Luko Aquatrax Maverick
Golfie
Mr. Cedar Point guy takes a trip to Lotte World and takes a ride on Atlantis Adventure. He goes to Intamin and says, "Hey! I really liked that Aquatrax in Lotte World, and we'd like one over at Cedar Point, but we don't want those weird looking trains. Oh yeah, we have to break some kind of record and include gimmick after gimmick." And thus, Maverick was born.
kraken613
^ That sounds pretty much how I think it happend!
Adrenaline_Rush
^^ Haha, pretty much, except I wouldnt call Maverick gimmicky, because Mr. Cedar Point will find you, and he'll give you "the gas!"
Scream162
^That reminds me of riding Maverick at Coastermania and a few members from CP management asked me what I thought of Maverick. They gave me a confused/disgusted look when I said it was just "OK."
Carnage
Oh yeah, we have to break some kind of record and include gimmick after gimmick." And thus, Maverick was born. What record did Maverick break? Flatest terrain coaster?
coaster05
I have to say as much as I dislike CP, Maverick was really fun. It is my second favorite coaster at the park, so that puts it somewhere in my top 50. Definately a nice addition.
dandaman
What record did Maverick break? Flatest terrain coaster? Most coasters in one park... maybe... I can't remember. Sparebear75
What record did Maverick break? Flatest terrain coaster? Most hyped up attraction ever? No? Most anticipated non-aquatrax coaster?
Magnumfan
I give Maverick a 7.5 out of 10. I think it is a good addition to the park. I wish they have better restraints on it though, restraints that have better ways to hang on. Nice maneuvers and good speed and thrills too. Maybe they can redo them and make them like Raptor's? asr
Conventional OTSRs would be complete overkill for a ride like Maverick, and would probably also kill most of the airtime. On the other hand, I can't really see conventional lap bars working with all the inversions and 95 degree drop. I think Maverick's restraints are good for the kind of ride it is. Although it has inversions, at it's heart Maverick is more like a non-looping sit down.
Scaparri
^I don't think the inversions or the vertical drop would have been negative reasons for lap bars. I'd be more concerned about the wicked quick turns/transitions it makes, particularly the set of esses after the first drop, and a few of the turns between the launch and the brakes. I just feel like they should redesign the top of the OTSRs for this ride. If you aren't gripping on to the top of them (where they say you aren't supposed to hold), then you get a severe neck jab during the insanely quick turns. That's my only issue with it. Anyway, I give the ride about a 9 out of 10. I loved it. I'm just pretty sure I'm going to hate it in about five years after it has aged some. SFGAFan4
Loved the ride, it had some wicked quick turns, an amazing first drop, fun launch, and tons of airtime. 10 out of 10, only ride that beat it out in my ranks is Millennium Force.
Magnumfan
To me the restraints hurt when Maverick went through the area near Snake River Falls, mainly the two sharp turns underneath and near the lift hill. Some parts of the ride were intense.
matteocrepaldi
I loved it but those restrain are really painful.
Homer
*bump* Remember that dirt picture? Well, CP finally announced what it is. http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/fun/blog/index.cfm (scroll down) However, this doesn't discourage a new ride/improvement... We’ll keep you on track with our plans for the 2008 season as soon as we’re ready to let the kittens out of the bag.
alpengeist04
Not this thread again, LOL. ...16 pages and we still don't know what the 2008 attractions are. I can only imagine how many pages we'll have once the attraction(s) are officially announced.
matteocrepaldi
No, this was not the beginning of the 500-foot, mega-inverting, suspended, twisted, giga-hydra-aqua-flippy coaster.
sfmmrules!
I heard it could be a DeJa Vu? CP could use one & fix the problems & if CP really gets a DEJa VU then GA has a pretty good chance getting Batman & Robin The Chiller.
PKI Jizzman
The blog already said that the shack that was being built was a shed to put all the Halloween floats.
ghost007jas
Guys..it probably wont be a coaster. They're hyping us all up for nothing, just like with the dirt pile. So before you get all worked up, remember you got a 21 million dollar roller coaster last year, and odds are you wont get another this year. raptorcrew2002
Hmm. Kitten out of the bag. Small spaces. Something lacking but would get attention and not cost to much for an add on. Wild Mouse? Either that or a red light district. Hurray cat house. So how would they declare the spec's for that ride. "wink. "Whole new meaning to you must be this tall to ride" Sorry forgot this was a Cedar Point thread. Or it could be an Aquatraxwildmousefloorlesswoodengigadivingflyerrocket coaster. asr
Actually, it says "kittens" not "kitten". Two or three flats from Geauga Lake maybe? Cedar Point could probably use some more flats.
Loco
Call me crazy, but I think Cedar Point should get GL's Boomerang. CP doesn't have anything like it, and boomerang's are always popular with the GP.
