Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

p. 2030 - Top Thrill 2 announced!

Recommended Posts

CP has regularly been in the habit of hanging banners on rides for their 45th or 35th anniversary, etc. But has rarely invested in a large ride for the sole purpose to celebrate their anniversary. To me the point of an anniversary is to celebrate the history of the item, park or event. Not to take away from that by constantly adding something new and large and unique.

Governor DeWine said an announcement regarding amusement parks, zoos, FEC's, etc. will be made on Thursday and will be "good news" for most.

Good news for zoo lovers in Ohio: Gov. Mike DeWine promised he’ll have an answer on Thursday for when the state’s zoos, museums and other tourist attractions can reopen.

“And I think for most of these facilities, it will be good news,” he said.

If the announcement is coming tomorrow, and the hotel is open 12th - 28th for "beach getaways" then I am guessing the open date will be the 29th, at least in time for the fourth of July. Guess we will know soon.

Well, I had been deciding between Vegas and Tampa for my 4th of July vacation...this about settles it. Are bars back to normal (edit: well, close to it...meaning a single guy can walk in, sit at the bar, and have a drink) in Ohio yet?

As of today, Ohio amusement parks have not yet been cleared to re-open.

NEW: These places can reopen June 10 in Ohio.

•Aquariums

•Art galleries

•Country clubs

•Ice skating rinks

•Indoor family entertainment centers

•Indoor sports facilities

•Laser tag facilities

•Movie theaters (indoor)

List does not include amusement parks like @KingsIslandPR.

"Guidance is still being developed for those facilities," DeWine spokesman said.

The press releases from the Cedar Fair parks today were a bit out of the ordinary, because you don't frequently see amusement parks directly advocate a position on a political process. I won't go any further on that, because it would get into the politics of it.

Wow. That escalated quickly!

I'm very excited! How dare Ohio try to discriminate and dictate what can and can't open. It has no logical or scientific sense you can go to a zoo or movie theatre but can't spend the day at a Cedar Fair park in Ohio.

They should be ashamed the way they are treating Cedar Fair, they don't deserve them...

Sadly, from one of those articles, it said Gov. DeWine plans on vetoing the bill if it makes it to his desk. Allowing indoor FECs and movie theaters but not amusement parks makes no sense.

Back to planning alternatives...

I agree that it's ridiculous that Indoor FEC's and Movie Theaters were told they could open but parks were not, but apparently that also is having issues so who knows. Ohio. I just thought announcing a suit so fast was a big move.

I believe that "veto" was referring to this...

"Republican lawmakers already tried to limit her powers before and failed.

Last month, the Ohio Senate rejected their effort to limit Acton’s ability to issue stay-at-home orders to 14 days. They could only be extended if approved by a legislative oversight committee.

DeWine also said he would veto the legislation if it reached his desk."

...and not about Amusement & Waterparks opening.

I feel like the word sued is the wrong word but what do I know. It's to the point when they have played nice and I'm sure to point they have spent money to make it safe now please let us open. Sadly you have to look at this bigger than just cedar point. The fact how much the city is hurting. I saw a Bk is not going to open back up till the park opens.

How will it go when they say They need to July to get ready to Open and you must wear a mask?

They won't say they need until to July to be ready, given how they were suing to be able to open immediately, and if they tell you to wear a mask you suck it up and do so, or don't go. Their business, their property, their rules, regardless of how silly one may find them.

Edit: Given that Ohio does not have a "mask required for customers" rule as part of it's emergency orders, it will be entirely up to CF if they choose to follow that guidance or institute a more severe policy requiring them.

Sounds like a winner! That didn't take long.

A Message from Richard Zimmerman, CEO, Cedar Fair Entertainment Company

June 5, 2020 Update

As a result of ongoing discussions with Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine and Lt. Gov. John Husted, we are very pleased to announce that our Ohio parks, including Cedar Point and Kings Island, have been cleared to reopen. We will provide specific opening dates just as soon as we confirm details with the governor. We appreciate the cooperation and support of all those that are working hard to help us and the state of Ohio reopen.

We plan to continue conversations with the governor and lieutenant governor that have helped reach a positive resolution for all parties. We also owe a big thank you to our local city, county and state officials who have assisted us throughout this process. The reopening of our parks is crucial to the economic viability of Erie County and Warren County, and we look forward to getting back to business and hope that other states will follow Ohio’s lead in reopening parks around the country.

We are taking every necessary precaution to keep our guests and associates safe in accordance with governmental and CDC directives, Erie County and Warren County health departments, medical professionals, Ohio’s Development Services Agency (DSA) and industry best practices. Cedar Fair’s capacity-controlled, family-friendly properties at Cedar Point and Kings Island, coupled with the operational expertise of our seasoned park professionals, ensures an environment where predictable observance and enforcement of social distancing and COVID-19 protocols can be achieved. More details about our safety measures and what to expect when visiting our Ohio parks will be released closer to the opening date.

We cannot wait to welcome back our loyal guests to Ohio’s treasured amusement parks, which have brought fun and happiness to generations of families.

I wonder if this will pave the way for other parks to stand up to their respective states.

Hopefully Morey's, Casino Pier, Six Flags, and the others, follow suit (pun?) in NJ. Gov. Murphy needs a slap upside his head the way he's been handling reopening.
