Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

p. 2030 - Top Thrill 2 announced!

it's probably not high on their list of priorities.

But I'm not there, how will I know how long other people are waiting for rides? These seems pretty critical for the Social Media Militia that has nothing better to do. It should be their #1 priority. Who cares if SV is open if they can't broadcast wait times?

I think reasonable people should look at the app as more of an estimate than a certainty. ^I agree with you that if the app is available it should be a little more accurate, but I don't think it has to be 'dead nuts on.' Again, this probably relates to the staffing.

How many times do I need to say this?

The source is the Cedar Point app. The Cedar Point app is not gospel and always has some anomalies but generally speaking you can figure out with a little common sense which things are updated frequently and which things aren't. Millennium Force had a huge queue earlier (which was apparent on the webcam), then it rained a lot and cleared it out and the park hasn't bothered to update it yet because it's probably not high on their list of priorities.

The app tells me I have to be in the park to see the wait times

The site uses a GPS scrambler to trick the app into thinking it's on CP ground. Or any park, depending on what you're looking at. Either way this has been covered before.

You can use one of those GPS spoofing apps - I don't know if they have them for iOS - and then go into the CP app.I've been following the wait times all day because I'm trying to plan for my visit a week and a half from now. It hasn't been perfect, but when combined with the webcam, you can get a pretty good sense of what's going on in the park. I noticed Gatekeeper has shown as down all day, even though it's clearly running haha. Here's where things stand now. It looks like everything has opened today (except maybe iron dragon??), albeit not all at the same time.

So we just checked into the Breakers about a half hour ago. Driving around the back side we could see trains cycling on everything except TTD, can't say for certain if they were all with riders or just testing on certain things, but most things were cycling. Couldn't see Iron Dragon. Lines looked long at SV of course and MF. That's the best I can report from the vantage point if the hotel and perimeter road.

We are getting escorted in at 8:45 tomorrow, keep your fingers crossed its not a wash out. I'll report on the day when I can.

In line for SV right now.

App says 1 hour wait...got in line at 6:30 with 4 switchbacks and under the structure into the station. Will let you know how long I wait!

Most (if not all ) of the coasters look to be in operation currently.

Just started sprinkling, but it's still running for now!

Like I said earlier, Gatekeeper ran a ton today. Most rides are really quick to update open / closed status on there but Gatekeeper never posted today. I have a suspicion that Iron Dragon may have been the same way.

Just wanted to say your input about the park, especially Steel Vengeance, and patience on here with some folks has been phenomenal.

Really wanted to say you are greatly appreciated on these forums coasterbill!!!! Thanks so much for your help during these very weird couple of weeks with the opening of Steel Vengeance. I've read everything you said and you're very courteous.

^ How you doing now, Phil? Gotten an awesome ride, I hope.

It was a little under a two hour wait and probably up there for the longest that I've ever waited for a coaster...but this one was well worth it!

Compared to Outlaw Run a couple of days earlier having a couple of minor rattles (not a complaint - it still kicked total ass), SV (being new, no doubt) is butter smooth from start to finish.

The drop is phenomenal, the speed carries from start to finish and the airtime is equivalent to being on a bucking bronco - the theme fits perfectly to the ride.

My ride was in row 4 and while I'm sure that the front and back seats are probably better, there can't be bad seat on this coaster.

While there is a grab strap on the lap bar, most enthusiasts won't need it. This is just all around relentless hands-up FUN from start to finish. A well deserved 10 out of 10!

The two other trains are on the transfer tracks so hopefully they'll be back in action soon.

Also snagged a one train wait each for MF and Valravn. It was surreal to be riding these bad boys in 48° weather with 20-30 mph wind gusts coming off of Lake Erie.

MF was sluggish due to the cold, so no real airtime, but still made my eyes water.

All ride ops were kicking at high gear despite the fact that I knew they must have been freezing their butts off. Kudos to them as always!

I could have easily gotten a few more walk-on rides, but the cold was just ridiculous after having mid-80's for the rest of our vacation. I mailed it in at 9:00 and whisked myself back to the warmth of the Breakers after about 2.5 hours in the park.

Most of the rides were closed down from Corkscrew up to Magnum during my walk back to the Breakers. Witches Wheel looked liked the only ride running in that stretch.

Tomorrow is looking really iffy weather-wise, but we'll do what we can do. Could be a short day and Michael might very well stay at the hotel as he did tonight to stay warm.

Hope to have a full trip report of the big adventure soon!

Quick update..... we were allowed in @8:45, hustled right back to SV, got on 2nd ride of the day..... It was pretty awesome (and that's the mom of the enthusiast talking) By the time we got off already a two hour wait and that was just the early entry people. Have not started handing out boarding passes yet.

If this were any other ride, I couldn’t stand waiting through the one train ops. I don’t even mind them for this ride because its so good and fun to watch. Ive only gotten one ride wirhout them and it was when I ran with the bulls opening weekend. The line is going to feel so fast once digger comes back.

I thought that strap was for the ride op to check faster.

Most likely yes, but I'm sure frightened guests will likely use it for a "Jesus" bar.

thanks for the update, Phil.

wow. . 2 hour wait in weather that bad when most other things were closed? not shocking, but SV sounds like a huge hit.

glad to hear the ride is as intense as most were hoping (tho I'm not a "hands up" type. . . LOL. . so I'll be hanging on to that strap!).

stay warm.

Believe it or not a strap on the lap bar can serve a double purpose: both as a ride op check, and as a rider grab bar.

I would be delighted to hear how Steel Vengeance is going today. Will be there in a little over a week!

Also I wonder what it will take to get 2 trains going. They had all week after the incident to fix sensors, test, and perfect the ride system, but apparently nothing has changed? Is there some vital inspection by the state that they are putting off?

^ It could be any number of things. From needing X amount of test runs to be cleared by the state, to multiple parties completing an investigation, to perhaps needing extensive reprogramming or sensor replacement. Obviously the weather may play a factor in everything also. I'm confident that CP, RMC, and Irvine Ondrey Engineering are working as fast as they can to get this thing up and running at full capacity.

Pretty excited to ride SV tomorrow, but I fully expect to only get one ride, with anything more being a bonus. I'll probably book it there first thing to see if they're handing out boarding passes, then go somewhere else until that initial surge dies down. If they didn't hand them out today though, I doubt they will tomorrow.
