^^Just wondering, what's your opinion of Magnum?

I love the first half of Magnum but by the time the bunny hops come my lap bar is always to tight and it becomes very uncomfortable to be pushed into the lap bar at the top of every hill. Being around 6'3" tall, there are a few rides that most find comfortable and smooth that I don't.

Good tip if the airtime on the return trip hurts: the second row of the first car with your seatbelt as tight as you can possibly get it. I found my ride way more comfortable that way although both laps were fun.

I would actually suggest avoiding the first car of the train all-together if you're looking for a less painful return-run. I always suggest the second-to-last row of the train for the most enjoyable ride on Magnum. Wonderful airtime on the first half of the coaster and crazy yet toned-down airtime on the bunny hills.

A pretty cool video of the sunrise tour of valravin is up on YouTube. There is also behind the scenes footage of dragster and millennium force. Some interesting tidbits about the ride (s).

I found the eternal answer to weather or not the supports are full of sand. The answer is no.

I mean I wasn't surprised that it was rough. I rode in the back row for two of the three rides that I took on Magnum.

The pain was entirely removed in the second row. I think the second row of any car would be equal if that's the case. The front (and apparently the third row) are all stupidly powerful and did hurt a little, but the second row is incredibly smooth and feels like a B&M.

Cedar Point planning question.

Photos of my trip from June 8 and 9. I just missed the major storm they had by a couple of days and the weather was beautiful! Crowds were not bad but there were many young kids out in the park those days. Even with the large groups from schools it was not that bad. I used Fastlane PLUS the first day and just winged it the second day. A couple of things I did not like with CP fastlane plus which is different from Kings Island..... you don't skip the whole line on several rides! I was not expecting that.

I do have to mention the garlic and parmesean fries at the stand near Raptor were amazing!

I enjoyed ROUGAROU, VALRAVYN, hmm not that impressed. I had already done Sheikra and Griffon maybe that's why. Gatekeeper was fun but did not blow me away. Wicked Twister. OMG! I forgot how intense that was!! Hardly any line either. Maverick was amazing with the new restraints and I like how FASTLANE PLUS is used at that ride. It bypasses pretty much the entire que, unlike MF?? Funny how people still line up for RAPTOR in the morning. Still very popular after all these years.

Anyway on to the the pics. Enjoy!

Goodbye Cedar Point!! I had a great visit.

Good thing Mean Streak is pretty, that's the ONLY redeeming quality.

Clearly you didn't ride in the front or lean forward. Seriously, people treat the thing like it's as rough as the Boss and more boring than a kiddie coaster. Mean Streak is fine. Nothing about it is so terrible that it deserves such a bad reputation. Corkscrew is way worse and it's at the same park. Mean Streak may not be a top ten woodie but it's actually really fun. Nothing to write home about but the thing gets ragged on way too much.

If a coaster is only tolerable in one seat, in one position...that sir is a bad coaster. I really hope the RMC rumors are true, off with her head!!

I would say it's fine in any seat, but good up front. Unfortunately, it's at a park where almost everything is good, so it probably seems worse than it is. Twister at Knoebels is very similar. It isn't close to Phoenix, and would be better received if it was compared to something that good.

I would prefer to have GCI/GG reprofile the ride and eliminate the trims, over having RMC convert it into another looping sit-down coaster. Let RMC build something original instead.

Cedar Point planning question.

Me and a friend are planning on visiting Cedar Point on a weekend in late August or mid-July and we have a few questions for people who have visited the park on a regular basis. It's our first trip and we want to make the best of it. We are recent college graduates from Washington DC, so the trip is being planned on a budget.

Should we allow one or two days to visit the park?

We are planning to use FL+. Is it possible to cram all the major coasters and some thrill rides in a single Saturday in late-August?

How is about Soak City? I haven't read much on the water park.

Hotels in Sandusky and the surrounding area. Are there any suggestions? Should we stay at the Breakers Express and take advantage on the early entry?

We are also considering on going next year on Memorial Day weekend and save extra money to splurge on the park.

Considering you're in DC, it may be more worthwhile for you to get a Platinum Pass for Kings Dominion. The early entry for platinum passholders is the same as for resort guests. I stayed at the Howard Johnson just down the street from Breakers Express. It was super cheap (around $50 a night--though I will add the caveat that I booked months in advance, and before Coastermania was announced). Considering that Breakers Express is in the $130 range, you'll easily save money with the Platinum, plus get some perks at Kings Dominion too, and still have the free parking and early entry at Cedar Point.

If you can do two days, do two days. I was there for Coastermania, which was an 18 hour day with 4 hours of ERT, and I was still running around to get to everything, and didn't quite get to all the second-tier rides I wanted (though I did get multiple rides on the top-tier ones). There's just way too much to do, no matter how long you spend there.

I skipped Soak City, as it didn't look like much, and there are so many good rides at Cedar Point. That seems to be the prevailing thought unless you spend a week there.

I'll let others recommend days to visit and FL+, as I don't have experience there. Have fun!

I'm kind of surprised that CP doesn't have a GCI coaster already and that they haven't done a wooden coaster since 1991. I also agree that it would be better for GCI to do this project considering RMC would probably convert it to a steel coaster, leaving only one wooden coaster in the park. Or, they could add a GCI coaster and let RMC do Mean Streak. That would be awesome. I don't really need RMC to build an original at CP, I already have Outlaw Run .

I skipped Soak City, as it didn't look like much, and there are so many good rides at Cedar Point. That seems to be the prevailing thought unless you spend a week there.

I'll let others recommend days to visit and FL+, as I don't have experience there. Have fun!

I agree with this entirely. Get a Kings Dominion Platinum Pass and process it at KD before you go. Then you don't need to stay on property to get Early Entry and you can stay at a Motel 6 or something (Motel 6 and Super 8 Sandusky / Milan right by the Ohio Turnpike are good options if you're on a budget. They're no frills but they're clean and nicer than most other Super 8's / Motel 6's). YOU NEED EARLY ENTRY. IT'S AMAZING

Plus this way you have a Kings Dominion Platinum Pass too which is always nice, and if you want you can pay for it over the course of 6 months. I highly recommend 2 days. Maybe get Fastlane Plus one of the 2 days if you want to treat yourself. I'd suggest doing it on day one and then taking it easier on day 2.

Also a Platinum Pass saves you money on every purchase in the park, and if you eat at Famous Daves in the Marina (a great option on the more laid back day 2... sit outside on the deck) you can even save money there with the Platinum Pass. It works everywhere on the Peninsula.

If Mean Streak was at SFFT I'd ride it all the time. It would be a middle tier ride there, the same way it's a bottom tier ride at CP. It's all by comparison.

Although I don't get why people would take reprofiling and trim removal over an RMC conversion. Sure CP is lacking a good (big) wooden coaster but MS's layout is pretty meh in terms of what banking and reprofiling could do, and it probably wouldn't become a top ten woodie or coaster because of that. On the other hand, the structure is near identical to Texas Giant's, and NTaG is an amazing ride. I feel like an RMC would be different enough from Maverick, and with Mean Streak's structure you could easily cook up another top ten steel coaster for the park. As much as I'd love to see a new topper track coaster built over MS's structure (like a wooden I-box conversion) I doubt that'll happen, and I'd take a top ten steel over an average woodie any day. Sure, CF has been working with GCI quite a bit, but MS is a /little/ on the large side of what GCI would want to work on I would think.

Thanks for the feedback!!! We are not planning on getting the Platinum Pass from Kings Dominion. We've visited the park earlier this season and splurged the entire day. We are not planning on coming back this season. How was Coastermania? How do you register for the event next year?

Reprofiling can be more than just altering banking. They have 5400ft of track to work with, starting 160ft in the air. If they are simply constrained to keeping the relative X,Y location of the ride, there is still quite a bit they can do in the Z direction.

Sure, but GCI has never done any coasters the size of Mean Streak. In fact, the only one they've done that's a significant amount over 100 feet is Wodan. The rest of the big GCIs are around ~105. Plus, if it's anything like what they did to The Legend then it'll make it slightly smoother in the reprofiled areas and not do much at all.

All the coasters that have been getting GCI work done lately are coasters with layouts similar to GCI, and Dinn Corp's style was incredibly different from GCI. Would I be surprised at GCI refurb of Mean Streak? Probably not. Would it really make the ride that much better? Probably not.

You register at cedarpoint.com, and you must be a coaster club member, for example, Club TPR. I sat on CP's website for weeks checking daily to see when tickets would go on sale. They were sold out very quickly, as they only sold about 1000. This was the first year you had to purchase tickets, but with how well it worked, I would expect them to do the same thing or very similar next year. And if you do plan to go to Kings Dominion and Cedar Point next year, that's a great reason for a Platinum Pass....

No, I'm not getting commission on Platinum Pass sales, I've just purchased said Platinum Pass for the first time ever this year, and I'm loving it.

That is correct. No matter where you purchased the Platinum Pass, you get all the platinum perks for every Cedar Fair park. My Worlds of Fun Platinum Pass has worked flawlessly so far at KI, CP, and MiA, and I would expect the same at Valleyfair next month (and hopefully Knott's if I can make it to WCB).

I agree x100. We got our Platinum passes + Platinum Dining. We've been to Carowinds 3x, KD 2x, KI 2x, CP 2x, Dorney. It's almost paid for itself in parking alone! Hard to beat if you plan to visit multiple parks. We haven't bought a meal in a park yet this year.

This. That is exactly where we rode two weeks ago and we also followed coasterbill's advice about tightening up the seat belt. It was still some crazy, bat-shit, try to buck you out of your seat ejector airtime on the return run, but I love it!

For Mean Streak, I also followed coasterbill's advice and sat in the front row leaning slightly forward. It was okay, but still wishing for an RMC or Ghostrider-like makeover. But then again, I don't think that I was even buzzed, so shame on me for not going on Friday night right after consuming copious amounts of beer at the Brew & BBQ. I am sure that it would been much more fun if I would have rode it then!

For prozach, Friday was not bad at all, although we were only there in the evening. MF had about a 20 minute wait and everything else was pretty much a walk-on except Valravn at about 45.

Speaking of Valravn, that is where you are going to get the most bang for your buck with the FL+. All weekend, lines ranged from 45 minutes to 120 every time we were there. Nothing better than skipping that hot mess and walking on in less than 5 minutes. And waiting 13 minutes for Maverick and 15 for MF as opposed to over an hour was also great.

We did 3 consecutive laps on Valravn in less than 20 minutes, went over to Famous Daves and had some cocktails and appetizers and then went back for one more ride...all in the span of time that we would have waited for one ride on Valravn in the normal queue.

So I was at the Park Saturday it seems super busy. I rode Ms and I don't care what people say it still it not good. They do have a tone of pink spots on footers . So who know what that means.

When did they start with the Bag check and people check. I went opening weekend and they didn't do that. I ask one of the guards and he told me that he has been doing it for about a month so I take it that it has been going on since after opening weekend?

If you have not stayed to see Luminosity then you really should. they have stepped up the shower over the years. great way to end the night

Hey everyone!

I'm looking to head to CP July 17-19. Is it worth it to get FL or FL+ just for the 18th since that will be our only full day there? How crowded will it likely be? We would stay at Breakers so we have early entry. On the days the don't have FL, what order should we go on the rides?

Sorry to be the annoying guy that asks the same question that someone else asks every week, but thank you everyone for the help!
