Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

p. 2030 - Top Thrill 2 announced!

Um, no one has mentioned the only correct answer to his question... TGI Friday's!!!

Actually your question should have been something like this... "Just wondering, is there anything to do near Sandusky besides TGI Friday's? I need a reason other than TGI Friday's to get a trip to Ohio."

^^That's a great suggestion, as is the brand new casino downtown which has opened this last week to rave reviews and has sparked higher levels of nightlife throughout downtown. If you are interested in visiting Cleveland, PM me and I would be happy to help suggest some activities to do that would compliment a trip to Cedar Point.

In the more immediate area there's Kelleys Island as well as Put-In-Bay. Not sure how old you are, but if you are of age, Put-In-Bay can be really fun. Even if you aren't, it's still great fun and very scenic.

Toledo is also about an hour or so away and is home to one of the coolest museums, the Toledo Glass Pavillion. If you are at all interested in architecture, it's an amazing building that seems to defy structural engineering and gravity.

My friends and I had a great time at Cedar Point on Saturday. If it was not for Fast Lane the day would not have been fun at all. I have never seen Cedar Point that busy. The only long wait was Top Thrill Dragster which was about 40 minutes. At lunch we went to Fridays in the Breakers Hotel, and we would not have been able to do that and ride everything we wanted to with out Fast Lane.

We rode,

Raptor, two times, we walked on both times.

Blue Streak, we walked on.

Millennium Force, two times and was a a 20 minute wait.

Mean Streak, we walked on and it was a mistake. I forgot how horrible the ride is.

Gemini, we walked on.

Maverick, which was a 15 minute wait. It is my second favorite steel coaster after Millennium Force.

Iron Dragon, which was a 15 minute wait and did not have Fast Lane.

Magnum was a 5 minute wait.

Cork Screw was a walk on.

Mantis, my friends went on it but I did not. I am 6 foot 2 and when the shoulder restraint hit my shoulders it would not come down far enough for the seat belt to buckle. The Mantis was never one of my favorite rides so I really did not care that I did not get to ride it.

Top Thrill Dragster

Windseeker, we walked on. I really did not care for the ride to much.

Max Air, we walked on. This is my favorite flat ride.

Power Tower, we walked on.

Bumper Cars, we walked on.

Monster, we walked on.

Fast Lane prices have gone up!

From Screamscape:

(5/25/12) While it seems every Cedar Fair park has launched their own version of Fast Lane this year, with varying degrees of success or failure, Cedar Point has announced that they will be raising the price to $55 for one person, and it will cost $60 on Saturdays.

I'm fine with the slight price increases as it shows that Cedar Point is committed to making this system work right. I really was super impressed with how they have implemented Fast Lane and now it looks like they are trying to make it a better experience for everyone by adjusting the prices as necessary. Good for them.

^Or they could just better limit the number of Fastlane passes they sell if it's becoming a demand problem. To the average person it looks very much like they are money hungry and that's what some will perceive it as. Is $55/$60 for a single pass a little high, maybe not so much at Cedar Point, but at other CF parks, certainly.

I used Fastlane at WOnF last year at haunt and it was well worth the $35 I spent to be able to get front of line to all of the haunts except for one(logistic issues to get two lines going on it). I was able to practically walk in to all of them and was done in 90 minutes, same with Fastlane for their rides.

^From the park's standpoint:

If you keep the price the same and limit the number of tickets, you would now have to deal with angry park guests who can't buy one because tickets have sold out. So, you raise the price, to in effect accomplish the same goal of lowering Fast Lane users without having to turn customers away. This is how Universal has done their Express Passes for years now. Raise the price with demand. It's basic Economy 101.

I think the price increase is reasonable, and if the price increase helps reduce the demand, all the better. While some may perceive this as being "money hungry", others like myself view it as maximizing profits. Given the cost today of building a world record coaster and the amount of debt CF has to deal with, I think the whole program is a win win for everyone.

Dude, I understand this. Will $5 break the bank, no, but it pushes that glass ceiling. Disney is going to be quite effective in raising their A/P rate in lowering attendance and this will too, but at what long term cost? So now instead of turning people away, they get customers who now bitch and moan that the price is above what they are willing to spend for it. Win-win situation, no.

I do like that CF is offering these passes and they are keeping all of the money to themselves unlike parks partnered with Lo-q. However a major benefit with Lo-q is if a pass is returned, it can be resold. CF can't do this, so the answer is, raise the price because we sell out too quickly. The statement Cedar Fair makes about raising the price for their customers, yeah, I don't know of any consumer who applauds paying more, lmao.

Hypothetical. Sell an average of 1k passes per day at Cedar Point during the course of 100 peak operating days. That extra $5 nets them an additional $500k, not too shabby with an overall addition to the bottom line of ~5.5 million when not taking into consideration the Saturday premium. Now, if they use those additional revenues to continue to improve the park(and by improvements I mean not putting in lame rides like a million windseekers, tho the public somewhat seems to like them) then everyone wins.

Just wondering, is there anything to do near Sandusky besides Cedar Point? I need a reason other than CP to get a trip to Ohio.

Yes, Sandusky, is a major tourist town. There are advertised caves and islands that draw people looking for something more rustic. There is also world class walleye fishing too. My friends stay in Port Clinton, only 15 minutes away.

Well that is dissappointing to here. I was convinced they would build a legitimate wooden coaster, hopefully they still will. It does seem unlikely they would just spill the beans like that, smokescreen perhaps. They could do a 4d I suppose at least it would be different. A dive coaster would be a lot better if they had to go with steel. I think Dive and Inverts are here to stay and Wingriders will go the way of Standups. There has been a rumor of a Dive Machine coming for a while and it is a winged coaster.

I completely disagree. Wingriders have tons of potential and will only get better. They are the hot ride for this decade. They will be more like inverts. Every park will want one. Here's a video to watch.
