Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

p. 2030 - Top Thrill 2 announced!

Recommended Posts

The only coasters we waited behind any other Fast Lane riders was Dragster and Millennium Force. We did have one wait on MF that was about 15-20 minutes, but the entire queue was full, and it was much better to wait 20 minutes than over 2 hours!

--Robb

How many FL users do they allow into the station at once?

This makes me excited for my CP trip in June.

That Dragster Girl sure is a cutie pie!

Thank you for the Geauga Lake pictures, I have been very sad—literally hearbroken due to its closing, but it was nice to see the place again. Guess I should get over it.

That's the problem. From what I heard from people who didn't use the fast lane system is that it is nightmare. It apparently doubles the wait for everyone else in the normal line because of how many people use it and because you can abuse it like this. So it screws over everyone who doesn't have it. Honestly is your not going to do fast passes like Disney, you shouldn't do them at all. Its supposed to be helpful to the guest not a money making scam. Am I the only one who thinks that this is bull$#!%?

Hear come the flames......

Based on my experience with Fast Lane this past weekend, I really don't think that there were enough people using it to cause significantly higher wait times for the normal queue. It was really well done.

If you're arguing that literally half of each ride's capacity is going to Fast Lane users, then I'm sorry, I just don't see how that could be true.

The only time I saw this to be a problem was immediately following downtime. I.E., Dragster was down for a good bit of time on Saturday, so when it came back up all of the Fast Lane people immediately went to get their rides, and the line backed up. Same thing with Millennium Force. This was the only time I saw Fast Lane significantly effect the normal queue. Being as it was the first weekend, I'm sure that Cedar Fair will realize that this is an issue, and will find ways to make it work better for everyone in the park.

Well put! I used fast lane at KI two weeks ago. I really wanted to ride "The Beast" at night (thanks R.L. Stine!). Thanks to Fast Lane, I had multiple night rides on it. For roller coaster enthusiasts, Fast Lane should be one of the greatest inventions since sliced bread.

Does anyone know if they are limiting the number of Fast Lanes they sell per day? This may still be something they have to test and adjust throughout the summer on really busy days but it will be interesting to see if they ever sell out. I know at Seaworld and Busch Gardens they use a similar system and do limit the number of passes they sell per day presumably to keep the stand by line from getting out of control on capacity days (the parks are different so it's completely different all together).

Saying that the line was twice as long because of Fast Lane is a gross execration, a few minutes longer? Maybe. Twice as long? Ridiculous . This is America, if you don't want to wait, you can always buy your way to the front of the line.

I bought mine at the merchandise store across from TTD, I think it is called "Extreme Coaster Gear," or something of that nature, and the girl pulled out a sheet from under the register drawer with a bunch of the wristbands attached to each other. About half were already missing, so maybe they only give them one or two sheets at the start of the day, and once they're gone, they're gone? I don't know, but I would say that if anyone ever gets turned down at one place to definitely try another store, as there are many places that sell them in the park. There are even stores in Frontiertown which sell them that I would assume move them slower than stores on main midways.

Exactly! We don't live in some dictatorship or socialist regime. You can pick and choose what you spend your money on. Fly first class to the park and stay in a motel 6, fly coach and stay onsite, you choose what to spend your disposable income on, going to parks is already a choice, now you can decide on your exact experience once there!

Two friends and I are going to Cedar Point on Saturday. We already ordered Fast Lane wrist bands online today. This is the fist time to Cedar Point in about 5-6 years for each of us. I can not wait to ride MF, TTD, and the Mean Streak. I am also really looking forward to riding the Maverick for the fist time. It has been 5 years since I have been to Cedar Point. Until now each year I would make multiple trips to Kings Island, Geauga Lake, and Cedar Point each year

I honestly don't understand how any roller coaster enthusiast can bitch and moan so much about front of the line systems put into place that allow them to get MORE rides on roller coasters! The argument seems to defy all logical sense. We blew past 2+ hour queues for Millenium Force and Top Thrill Dragster and probably could have gotten 10 rides on each in the same amount of time as I could have stood in line once. It's like an ERT session on 20 rides where you control the schedule. This should be considered the most amazing, greatest single invention ever to be brought into the coaster enthusiasts world since the invention of the roller coaster itself! Why would any coaster geek choose to wait two hours in line when you could be riding that entire time???

If nothing else that reason right there totally makes it worth it! You are paying for a mini ERT session of your own which is completely awesome!

I think that this system is great if you don't get there often, but if you're a regular, it's not really as valuable and it does make lines longer. I think getting back on the enxt train is a bit much, as that could really screw lines if there are a lot of people with Fast Lane passes. So, yes, it's a great invention, but there has to be regulation.

The park has stated that they will limit the amount sold per day. What that amount is we do not know but I am sure it is based on attendance for the day. I can't remember if it was on here and Pointbuzz but someone posted that they tried buying a pass from Pagoda and they were already sold out of them.

But a regular should be going during non-peak times, right? If you are local to any theme park, why would you choose to go to the park when it is traditionally slammed. You go at non-peak times, and then the Fast Pass system is meaningless. Now say due to certain circumstances, you end up going during a peak time, you now have the option to use the system, where before you were going to be stuck waiting all day in lines.

It makes the regular line longer on most rides because the line moves slower as a result.I don't really see them "merging" the lines like they're supposed to but instead all they've done is use exisiting entry points(disabled guest entrances) as a means of bypassing the regular line & as a result it severely limits how many guests are allowed to enter the station from the line & that is what slows things down.

That's my strategy. Hasn't failed me yet. If this sort of thing has been your hobby for a few years, you should be able be able to pick out a few days over the course of an operating season that spare you from purgatory-esque waits. Sometimes you're visiting a park that you normally wouldn't because something has brought you to the area- unless there are extraordinary circumstances, you should be able to rack up most of the park anyway. There aren't too many parks not named Disney that require more than a day anyway. Works out well for me, because I couldn't care less about the glorified FECs with elaborate decorations that Disney parks are.

It's pretty impressive that the one person in Ohio still rocking a LeBron James jersey shirt made it into one of these pictures.

^^^Yeah, nobody has really said much about "slowing things down." The lines last however long they will last, there are just a few people jumping in every once in a while. If 100 people jump you in fast lane while you are waiting, that only adds 6 trains to your wait, which at Dragster is 3 dispatches, adding around 8 minutes to your wait. That's not that much. It's not like an hour line is being extended to a 2 hour line...

On our TPR tours, we get people ERT *AND* front of the line passes for all the parks that offer them, and all we ever hear is how amazing it is having "ERT all day long" at the parks we visit. How the hell is this something anyone would complain about?

It is AMAZING, I couldn't have imagined not having it on the Saturday we were at Six Flags New England on the Northeast Trip.

We are going to Cedar Point for 3 days in early June. We only get to go every 2 or 3 years. Decided to do fast passes on the 2nd day to do our coaster marathoning. On the other days we will catch rides on the rides that don't have the long lines, watch the shows and walk the frontier trail.

I'm going in early June too, but only for 1 day and this is my first time too, so these bourgeoisie passes might do us some good.

All of June seems to have 10pm close which tells me it's gonna be getting busy even though we visit on a Thursday. I suppose we'll just have to get an idea of how busy it is later in the morning after ERT and decide then.

Look at it this way, the Fast Lane can actually save money.

My Cedar Point visits are unfortunately few and far between. They're generally when I'm visiting family in NE Indiana, about 3 hours from the park. Whenever I visit, I like to go for 2 full days plus a Starlight. That allows time to leave from the family's place later in the day, show up, get checked into whatever hotel and then take advantage of the Starlight, still leaving 2 full days after that to more leisurely enjoy the park. I always make sure my visits are mid-week to lessen the crowds, but if I'm up there in the middle of the season, crowds are still heavy and it can still be a push to do everything. My wife and I got lucky on our last visit 3 years ago. We didn't do the Starlight, but day 1 was a gloomy, overcast day with a couple of short rain showers. It kept temperatures down and crowds away and allowed us to relax and take in the majority of the park with a few re-rides on Maverick, Millennium Force, Gemini and Magnum. Day 2 was sunny and crowded.

We were going to try and get to the Point this summer, but money isn't going to allow it, so we'll try and plan on it next year. With Fast Lane, it will really cut the cost. It will be a family of 4 (myself, my wife and 2 boys), so Fast Lane passes would run us $140 for the family. With FL saving enough time so that we can actually do the park within a single day, I have no problem driving to the park and back to Indiana in a day, so that eliminates the Starlight tickets and the cost of the extra day tickets, 2 nights in a hotel plus all the food that would have to be bought on those extra days. That savings right there is way more than the $140 spent on the FL passes.

Exactly! Living 3+ hours away from both Kings Dominion and Carowinds I really don't have a "home" park (although I call KD mine) and only get to each several times a year. I just can't casually stop by for a few hours like locals do and I usually only go to KD 6 times and Carowinds 2 times a year. I do try to plan to go when the parks won't be crowded, but if I happen to go and the park is slammed I'll be really happy to have Fast Lane as an option and will probably buy it.

It really is nice for a parks like Cedar Point (9 hours away) and Kings Island (7 hours away). Fast Lane is part of the reason I'm visiting both of these parks next month. I no longer have to worry about the parks being crowded and can have a relaxing time.
