Mr Stratosphere
This is from http://www.screamscape.com/ I think it is hillarious!! As Screamscape reported back in May, the Manhattan Express finally got a new name to go with the new trains this week. The bad news is that they picked probably one of the dumbed and unmemorable names you could think of. Yes in a bit of uninspired marketing genuis that could have been thought up by my two year old, they’ve renamed it “The Roller Coaster”. The new name is already on the website. While the Manhattan Express wasn’t a stoke of genius either it made sense and fit the theme of the hotel and taxi cab trains. In a day where there are so many attractions in Vegas to choose from it doesn’t make sense to give your ride such a generic name. It’s not like it’s the only coaster in town to choose from, and given the high level of theme used at the New York, New York casino you would think they would have gone for something that might pay homage to New York’s world famous coaster, the Coney Island Cyclone. Hell, they could have just gone back to the old days when the ride was almost given the name the Big Apple. Anything makes more sense than calling it “The Roller Coaster”. Maybe they’ll rename Zumanity next to “That Cirque Show”. I guess I really shouldn’t expect much from the people who charge $12-15 to ride what was once known as one of the most painful coasters in the world. okinawaboy11
I guess they found out that we were calling it Manhurtin' Express. lol.
QueerRudie
Nuts. I was hoping for 'reduced pain' TOGO Death Machine- but if these reviews are correct, I'll take a pass on it- I'm going to be in Vegas in early Oct. for an early birthday present. Oh well, I'll stick to the Canyon Blaster- still a good ride under the dome!
viking86
Ive heard some people who thinks that the ride has been improved alot with the new trains. I havent ridden it though, so I cant give you any of my opinions on it...
VegasCoaster
I think they were confused with a certain hotel and now condo complex going up down the street called THE Hotel and THE Place. So maybe its supposed to be THE Roller Coaster at NYNY...no?...damn. Well that was my best shot at an explanation.
Reggie_Ray
Um.....I happen to operate Manhattan Express and I haven't heard of any name change from anyone. The only thing that says the roller coaster at NY NY are the banners on the arcade floor leading to the ride. Everything else says Manhattan Express. We still call it by its original name. The roller coaster at NY NY was added so people can identify what casino the ride is at. If by any chance we do change the signs, I'll let you guys know. sixflagsguy5
When I went on it, it was barely rough at all. We were in the front row at night and it was actually kind of fun just because we were above Las Vegas at night on a coaster.
ECZenith
I agree with the person they said they should've kept with a subway theme. That ride would definately be more interesting if they had gotten themed "subway trains" and perhaps add a couple of tunnels. (the station already is themed to a subway train station) Then you could get away with the old name and have a whole new ride experience. I hope it's true what you say about the new flags witht the new blah name being just to direct people's attention.

HCOSurfer90
They should've just gave them lapbars like the other Premier trains on all the other premier coasters.
ScottBrown
Is it just me or does it look like they stripped down the old trains and kept the old seats and restraints
WillMontu
Here's a pic of the old trains for comparison http://www.joyrides.com/las_vegas/manhattan_express8.htm And to add to the pain, they have a Pepsi sponsorship They should have just called it the Togo Death Machine at NYNY
ScottBrown
Ok I can see they arn't the same but still I wonder why Premier didn't just use their own style of restraints instead of those horrible pull down things
SKULLY
Could the heartline dive have anything to do with it?
ScottBrown
I don't think so Premier rides are pretty heartlined and most of them now have lap bars only
Sunfire
Sorry to bump this topic, when I rode it last year (August 06), it was with the Premier trains. It would have been awesome, had it not been for the OTSR's. My chin kept bashing into them, and I think the name should have been changed from Manhattan Express, to A$$kicker Express. It's still the Togo death machine it has always been. When I go to Vegas in December, I will give it ONE more chance. If it still hurts, I'm done with it. Besides, I have yet to get my Speed and Canyon Blaster credits.
RCFreak
^It still hurts... A LOT.
Sunfire
^That figures. No wonder they're called Togo Death Machines. If they removed the OTSR's, it would be a little more pleasant, but they hurt so bad it totally ruined the already horrid ride.
Purplepills
I think I must be the only one who didn't fide it rough or painful in any way. I just found it plain underwhelming and not very exciting atall, asides the views at night were pretty cool. It just wasn't that much fun. And the restraints are kind of crap anyway, since I could quite easily lower my shoulders and lean forward right out of them. I decided not to do the whole ride like it though, its probably not a smart move.
Mr Stratosphere
I believe the OTSRs are still there because if you sit in the front seats of cars 2 3 or 4 the seat backs of the car in front of you come extremely close to your face while in the loop and the ending of the twist and dive segment of the ride. Jojo19799
The first time I rode ME was in March 2005. I enjoyed it, although it wasnt the best ride out there. It was rough for me and after riding it I had a bit of a headache. The second time I rode it was June 2007. It was so much better! It wasnt as rough as before. I was very suprised. I'm going back to Vegas this coming March. Hopefully I'll get to ride Speed and get over to Adventure Dome this trip.
