xascher Posted November 21, 2006 Share Posted November 21, 2006 Well, the ps3 is GREAT, for the die hard fans who wan't to play games only avalable with sony... the very very desperate kind of die hard fans who sell their house and their wife to buy a system... The sad fact is that Sony, belives that graphics are all we need... so untrue, most ancient games had better storylines then that of out newer consoles. The Wii however, has something innovative, and in essence, is a giant middle finger pointed up at Sony, for beating them in the previous NexGen wars. The Wii is great this year, but i as a Sony, AND Nintendo fan, hope that Sony will put up a better, more tactical fight next year... Sorry Sony, We Miss You! crispy Posted November 21, 2006 Share Posted November 21, 2006 I can say I have played a PS3, and I can also say, that it is not any better than a 360 If you have or buy an hdtv, you will not notice a diffrence, in fact, the first round of ps3 games are not as good as the 360, not suprising because 360 is now in the second generation I feel the PS3 is a hype machine, designed to help Sony win the Hd format wars, but there is a huge problem The jump from standard dvd to hd or Blu-Ray DVD is not as drastic as the jump from VHS to DVD DVD's still look good on hd-tv's, and some players can upconvert dvd's to 720p, it doesn't look as good as an hd-dvd, but it still looks nice The problem is, for a format to be successful, it needs to offer great benifits over the previous format, like Cassette to CD, the CD has been around for a long time, 20 years or so, and they have tried to replace or enhance it several times, and it has never worked, why??, CD's sound good enough for the majority of the general public, just as DVD's look good enough for the general public In the end, it appears Microsoft will have a 9 million unit lead after the holidays over sony, and about a 6 million unit lead over Nintendo, most games that were exclusive to Sony, are no longer exclusive, right now the battle is Microsofts to lose, and with thier units in the stores and available, I know who will sell the most this Christmas Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Wait for the Jan (after Xmas) sales and purchase all 3 machines. Yes Sony does over price their goods, your just paying for their badge name, most of the computer chips inside come from different compaines. PS3 cost £420 in the UK, so your price of $600 is cheap. The exchange rate is nearly $2 to the pound at the moment. I so wanted to fly to the States (weekend just gone) and Q up for a PS3 and a Wii, worth the £400 airfare. I'm not sure about the PS3 though, as the Japanese version does work on 240V. And wouldn't you get taxed at the customs ? It would be easier and cheaper to buy one from the scalpers on eBay. That's the joy of living in Europe where we are always last with gadgets. My PSP comes from Japan, I use a "step-down/step-up" convertor on our 240v electric system. I payed £40 custom's change when the PSP arrived, but I got it months before it came out in the UK. I would not buy anything electric from Ebay, I just don't trust the sellers. Did you know the UK is the most spied (nannystate) on in Europe, you can be seen on upto 300 CCTV camera's each day, now "fingerprinting" is being introduced if your caught speeding or any car crime. But I was referring to you flying to the USA yourself and taking one with you on the plane. My PSP comes from Japan, I use a "step-down/step-up" convertor on our 240v electric system. Apparently the picture quality of the PS3 when playing PS1 and PS2 games suck. Both PS1 and PS2 game come out looking worse on the PS3 than they looked on the systems they were made for. verticalzero Posted April 27, 2007 Share Posted April 27, 2007 I upgraded my PS3 HDD to a 160GB / disc speed 7,400rpm. Standard HDD is 60GB / 5,400rpm. The extra speed does help with loading games, booting up, downloading times and surfing the Net. It was very easy to remove the HDD and install the new one, you can do it in under 2 min's. When you boot up the PS3 a message appears and says "do you want to format the HDD..?", click yes (takes 3 sec's) and you are ready to download lots more stuff. Normal DVD's do look sharper and more detailed on a PS3, Blu Ray have even better detail and most come in 1080P "true HD" resolution. If you can't afford the PS3 price, wait for a price drop or save up then buy one, it's only "peer pressure" to get one now... I saved £500 in 4 weeks. The best moment will be when I take the PS3, copy of "Ridge Racer 7", "Tekken 5" or "GT HD" to my local TV shop and plug it into a tv which does 1080P and say "yes I'll take one". Regarding the 8 cores in the CPU, Sony decided only to use 6 of them at the moment, 2 are in reserve and can be made "live" with a firmware upgrade. All the games at the moment are not using 1/3 of PS3's power and in a few years all games will exceed GT HD in looks. 360 will look so 3DO or Jaguar. It is an important title for PS3, why not snub "Game" for the next couple of month's so their shares go down and get it on the Net for less money. The PS3's cell processor links up with other cell processors creating an absolutely huge amount of processing power. That power is then used to help do calculations that simulate the folding a proteins. These simulations allow scientists gain knowledge about the process and could potentially lead to a cure for Alzheimer's and many other diseases.
