CaliforniaPinto
I wouldn't complain if I were you guys. At least you got something better than WOF. Kiddie Boats and a Splash Zone. ' Make sure you get your facts correct if you are going to troll. Worlds of Fun is getting a Splash Zone (which is exactly the same thing as Barefoot Beach) and they are getting swan shaped paddle boats to replace their canoe attraction at Oceans of Fun. Also not included in the WOF press release, they are upgrading several light packages on rides around the park. They are adding another permanent extreme haunt building (already being constructed) -- not to mention that 2016 and 2017 have already been earmarked as thrill ride additions. Without going into a full out park-war, there is no comparison between the two parks. WOF is by far the superior park.

VF15
I feel like everyone is just giving up on Valleyfair. Like just because we didn't get a huge expansion, people are automatically inferring that this means we won't be getting growth or a B&M. It makes me kinda sad. Yeah, I think the reaction to this is a little over the top. Just because the waterpark expansion was a bit smaller than anticipated does not mean it's the end of the world. I also don't get why everyone posting here thinks that Valleyfair has no thrilling rides whatsoever. Renegade is a terrific GCI, Wild Thing and Steel Venom are both solid coasters, and Xtreme Swing is great too.

Put it this way, The slide will be just under 10th place in the WORLDS tallest water slide category, missing it by 9 feet. Brighten up. Cedar fair has been consistent with adding things now to valleyfair and they aren't doing that old general improvement pattern. And by the looks of it we may be getting a coaster 2016 judging by the hints gary is leaving us. Don't lose hope yet.
CaliforniaPinto
^WOF fan boy much? It is one of 3 home parks for me - if that makes me a fan boy because I like it better than VF, then so be it.
madsecar
That's crazy!^ Those 2 drop slides are 3X the height of the current panic falls. I've been on panic falls once, and it was intense, so I could only imagine that these new ones will be crazy intense. And Gary said a new hint will be coming once haunt starts. Mossed
My only complaint is that I wanted a tornado bowl slide of some kind. I actually prefer what Valleyfair got to the slide complex that Dorney is getting. This looks much more thrilling. I'm excited to try these new slides. Edit - Guess the kids area could have been improved a little bit too. Still excited for this addition.
CaliforniaPinto
The thing about this slide complex when compared to Predator's Plunge (WOF) / Snake Pit (DP) complex is that those complexes featured tube slides as well as body slides. This allows the complex to cater to a wider spectrum of guests whereas the VF complex doesn't really cater to anyone but thrillseekers. While that might be all right with the readers of this board, the vast majority of those visiting the park are families. Hence why I feel that the complex that VF is getting might have missed the mark. As far as the splash pad -- sounds like it is an exact duplicate of the ones that have already been announced for other waterparks in the chain
madsecar
Just to give you guys a perspective of how tall these breaker plunge slides actually are, I found a video from VFZ that shows slides that are 20 feet SHORTER than breakers plunge! These slides are insanely tall in this video, and the ones VF are getting are 20 feet TALLER! Check it out! https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ptyWdutPjZ8

CaptainUnknown
Let me clarify something about my earlier rant: I was upset at how small the package is and how the drawn kiddy area is puny. I was upset because I was expecting a whole lot more. I'm excited about the new thrill slides, but I'm worried about what it means for the future and how much growth Cedar Fair expects us to have. And still no announced flyers for Route 76!
ian1808
I wasn't expecting much so I'm not disappointed. I've never been on a trap door slide so I'm actually pretty excited. And like others have said, this is a step closer to better things to come for VF.
garyman6
The art work for the splash pad doesn't fit with the description. That area is about 1 acre. To put that into perspective. the avearage suburbon lot is about 1/3 of an acre, so put 3 of them together. The drawing shows something that's only about 20 to 30 feet wide and long. I still think we will see improvements to the existing Soak City infrastructure for next year. I'll try to get more infor when I meet with Mr. Frazier. madsecar
Yes that's what I was trying to explain, the new bearfoot beach takes up the WHOLE IMAX grave, the artwork isn't even close to what it's actually going to look like. And just one more thing, the announcement was on the news this morning.
CaliforniaPinto
It most certainly does fit the description. Every other splash pad that has been announced has included lounging area which finishes out the area. More than likely the actual attraction will be 1/3 of an acre (to use your words) and the lounging/shade area surrounding the actual attraction will make up the rest of the acre. VF15
^^^ Good point. The concept art makes the play area look like the size of one that you'd find at your local aquatic park. I was originally disappointed in the kids' area, but then I read that it's land area is an acre, and that is about the size of a football field (not including endzones), which is pretty big. Also, putting everything into perspective, Valleyfair's waterpark expansion is similarly sized to other ones at other Cedar Fair parks like Dorney Park, Canada's Wonderland, and Kings Dominion, so I don't see why everyone thinks that VF got the bad end of the deal. madsecar
Yeah, and they also are giving us THRILLING water slides. Isn't that what everyone wanted? Something for the teens and not just for families for once? Well we got it! This expansion really isn't that little or whatever you all are complaining about. TacticalToots
Just out of curiosity, has anyone been to a park with a tube slide like raging rapids? It's one of my favorites and I haven't seen one at another park.
VF15
^ I've been to many other waterparks, but I haven't seen a Raging Rapids-like tube ride at any of them. I'm sure there are a few more of them out there, but I think it is a relatively unique ride type. Plus, I think Raging Rapids is a really fun ride, but I'm really looking forward to the new slide complex coming in next year.

Exactly, it's just like all the other splash pads with half the space devoted to landscaping (which is nice) and chairs (which are much needed at VF's water park) but the art work fits the description. The artwork rendering can always be off but it can also be pretty spot on just like Route 76 last year.
grsupercity
So its not going to be similar to beach party at MIA? http://www.mommiedaze.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/waterpark.jpg

Sure, their last expansions match this one but unfortunately those parks started with bigger water parks and had more expansions over the years than VF. Even after this expansion VF still arguably has the worst waterpark in the CF chain. I just expected a little more. I do give CF credit though for not just dropping in another Snake Pit, this slide package looks MUCH more thrilling and is definitely what the water park needs among other things. Now if they just would have added a swim up bar for adults like WOF and CP I would have been much more excited.
